Imo Bear knew about the wish working right when Ian called him at the restaurant about her lying about her dad. He also then asks her if she loved him „more than anyone in the world“. And right after that he decides to have s*x with her?!? He’s a disgusting pig and knew early on that he was literally going against her will. He had the option to talk to real Nikki instead of wish Nikki multiple times and,one, decides to hang up on her (screaming in agony btw) and then when she literally asks him to kill her and his only take is what’s so bad about being with me. The most selfish disgusting pos. He never knew her, was the only one out of the friendgroup who didn’t know her and her dad weren’t close, didn’t know which jewelry she’d like and instead of getting her a nice present he got himself a wish bone. Instead of wishing for himself to have the courage to tell her he liked her, he wished for her to like him cause he didn’t want there to be a possible „no“ from her. If he ever really loved her he would’ve immediately try to help her out of that situation by for example paying someone to undo his wish with another stick. But he only loved the idea of him being with her that’s why he let it go on for so long. In the ending he only „tried“ to kill himself cause he was scared of her and couldn’t take it anymore not cause he wanted to help her. And even then he tried to puke up the pills. And even if he would’ve had the „courage“ to go through with it he’s cowardish by leaving her alone in such a horrible situation. He would’ve been the only possible witness to her innocence. He’s such a good written villain and just cause he’s live in the beginning doesn’t mean he’s a good guy. He’s the epitome of „I’m a nice guy“ ughhhhh. Hate him.

The moment he knew for sure was at the restaurant. He asks her if she “loved him more than anyone in the fucking world,” his wish, verbatim, and she confirms it. That was his moment where he realized and he knew it was the wish that made this happen. When she asks, “Then why does it matter?” He shrugs and says “it doesn’t matter to me.” Then it cuts to him assaulting her. She’s making all the “right” sounds, but she’s not there. And he has his pants halfway on, so if Nikki snaps out of it again, he could pull his pants up fast to cover up what he’s doing. After he finished and is looking up at the ceiling, his face changes because he KNOWS what he just did. He didn’t initially want to cancel the wish, he wanted to “alter it.” Because his new sex doll was malfunctioning. Her excerpt from the book she was writing was about Hansel and Gretel, siblings, and wrote it as incestuous. Confirming that what Sarah told Ian about Nikki only viewing Bear as a brother was true. Saying that their love was something “only the branch of a willow tree could conjure,” aka the only reason it was possible was because of the one wish willow. He wasn’t concerned for her at all when she snapped out of it screaming, “IT’S NOT ME,” and stabbed herself in the face. He just SAT there, stewing because she “malfunctioned” in public after insinuating he was her brother. All of their friends were telling him to get off of his ass and help her. And he was sitting there POUTING. Even after all the crazy shit, when she’s begging him to kill her and she confirms that it’s never been her this whole time, his first response was to gaslight her by saying “you ARE you, Nikki.” Then he asks “What’s so bad about being with me?” Making the whole thing about himself and his feelings, doesn’t care that she’s been suffering. Has zero autonomy. It’s only when she kills Sarah and the ramifications of that now affect his life does he try to make another wish and have Ian make a wish for him. The most horrific thing about it was how early on he realizes that the wish is making her love him. And that the second he heard her screams on the phone call, that she was trapped and suffering, she still didn’t do everything in his power to free her. He wanted to reverse the wish or kill himself as a last resort, not because he wanted to save her, it was because he wanted to get HIMSELF out of the mess he created. And by that point, the damage was already done. He knew that if he died Nikki would be free and didn’t care that she would have to face the consequences of his wish. He was a coward from the beginning on the movie. All of the signs were there. And he continued to make selfish choices every step of the way.

My cat died a few months ago and I had to put her in a bag like that too - had to wait to get her cremated for a day or two and I didn't want there to be any smell, so maybe the same idea in the film

He knows it’s not her at that point like he KNOWS. That’s essentially why they have her ask “Then why does it matter?” And his response is “Doesn’t matter to me!” Tone flippant as HELLLLL And the next cut is them having sex, her completely emotionless He knew!!!! Loved the reaction though!!! and Ash was actually hilarioussss with his Bear hatred

Funny you say about the wish per episode as the director mentioned he would like to see that happen aswell. Also the ending was Nikki making a wish and snapping the willow as you can hear the music of the packaging being opened when hes trying to throw up. Great film and reaction!

Standing ovation for Ash, man!! We were literally applauding you for how quickly you caught on and against what Bear was doing when it came to being physical with Nikki. The entire movie, you had it, man. Big ups to you! And Hannah, I can't tell you how proud we were that you got through this one without needing to pause or get the sick bowl. Lol. Another 10 out of 10 reaction. Will absolutely be revisiting this one! Also, there are A TON of little tidbits and fun facts about this movie. The answer to the trivia question in the bar was Aladdin. In Aladdin, there are 3 wishes (one of which is to never wish for someone to love you) and in the movie, there are 3 wishes; one billion dollars, for Nikki to love Bear, and Nikki's wish at the end, for Bear to love her, too. The photo strip in the very beginning foreshadows their deaths and there are sprinkles of hints throughout as well. Sandy the Cat shows us Bear's death. Sarah is ALWAYS on Bear's left and the most tumultuous interaction involves the Jenga brick showing that Sarah will die on Bear's left with a brick. Almost every time Ian is with the group, they are ordering or drinking shots. He ends up being shot. Also, Nikki’s feelings for Bear get stronger and stronger because Sarah’s feelings for Bear get stronger and stronger. He wished for Nikki to love him more than anyone in the world so as anyone else’s feelings for him grow, hers had to be bigger and stronger. When Ian and Nikki are dead, her feelings lessen because 2 people that loved Bear died. I guess it's like Nikki said about her story...just because it's a love story, doesn't mean it's a romance. Any time one of my favorite react channels watch a horror movie, I have to comment and recommend the 2008 film Lake Mungo. It's one of the best, most unsettling indie movies ever!

There’s a reason this film is one of the most talked about this year. Amazing simple story that was executed brilliantly well. Curry Barker did an amazing job considering it’s low budget of $775,000. It’s gone on to be one of the highest grossing independent movies out there. When it comes to Blumhouse, they can be hit or miss, but when they hit, they hit hard. This is one of them. I also recommend from that distributor Upgrade, The Invisible Man, The Purge, Happy Death Day, M3GAN, and The Gift. All good movies.

Crazy you say that about the tv show Ash, Curry Barker has specifically said he liked to do a "each episode is a different wish and different director" tv show as a continuation of this

Hannah rooting hard for her to be with bear against her will was not on my bingo card hahahahah Nikki did not like Bear. She kept saying ew regarding him everytime anything romantic was brought up and she said he’s like her brother. That’s all the proof we need mates 😂😂😂

Nikki (Demon) used a one wish willow for Bear to love her, right after he took the pills, but he OD and released Nikki from the spell lmao.

bear deserved everything he got for forcing nikki into this situation, couldn't accept that she wasn't interested in him so he ruined her life. he was the obsessed one.

What alit of people miss is that Nikki in the end broke the branch and make a wish. For a couple of second, she got his full love before he died.

Y’all miss so much shit arguing it is hilarious but it does kinda suck for the reaction because then you misinterpret things completely but eh oh well still was fun this movie is fucking eerie lol! Also yeah bear definitely knew what he was doing at some point and that just made him awful. Great actor though and the movie was badass, Def has its own vibe and that was dope anyways. Ash is Turnt Neck Nikki because he’s always staring at Hannah and missing literally everything. 😂🤣

"He put a wish in her drink" is a perfect way to describe what he did to her. The movie is incredible although I will say on rewatches I do tear up at certain points knowing he ruined their lives because he was a coward and was okay with abusing Nikki even after he found out she was suffering

Also Ash you want series about this but on different wishes. The director wants to do that. Now his next film is in the same universe as this film.

the ending is a bit confusing but what basically happens is as he takes the pills, nikki breaks the one wish willow to make bear fall in love with her, but by then he already overdoses on the pills for anyone who didn’t understand

I think Bear was very aware of what he was doing and just refused to accept the fact that it was wrong. At the party after Nikki injured herself, while everyone is yelling at him to get up and help her, he just sits there in complete silence, also, when he called the costumer service guy, he asked to "alter the wish", showing that he doesn't want Nikki to go back to normal. At every turn he decided to pick the worst decision possible imo. The part where she outright just begs him to end her life and he asks her what's so wrong about being with him or whatever just confirms that he IS a selfish person and doesn't care about real Nikki at all.

You guys misinterpreted the ending a bit at the end when Bear came out of the bathroom smiling and kissing her it was because Nikki made the same wish the Bear did at the beginning of the movie. That’s why they showed the one wish willow at the end.

What an insanely talented young director Curry Barker is! He started his career on YouTube writing and appearing in sketch comedies with his friends (including Cooper Tomlinson, who appears as Ian) and is now directing films. Curry will be 27 years old in September (Steven Spielberg was this age when he made JAWS). Such remarkable self-assurance in his writing and direction at this age!
