The version they were were watching was the International Cut. You were most likely watching the theatrical or directors cut.

They are watching the International Cut for anyone that's trying to watch along. There are 4 versions of the film (Theatrical cut, Director's cut, International cut, and TV cut) so be sure to watch the right one.
Odd they have a different cut for over seas.

If you ever get a chance to see Evil Dead The Musical, splatter theater, do it! The first few rows have to sit with rain slickers or plastic covers. Some choose to wear white T-shirts. It's brilliant.
Finally! I have been waiting for this day. If you enjoy the franchise, I can recommend the series, "Ash vs Evil Dead" on Netflix. Greetings from Germany
