Case 356: Lesley Howell & Trevor Buchanan

In May 1991, Lesley Howell and Trevor Buchanan were found dead in a garage in Northern Ireland, apparently the victims of a tragic suicide pact. For almost two decades, that was the accepted truth. Then, in 2009, an unexpected series of events led to the exposure of a murder plot that had remained hidden in plain sight for eighteen years.

Wild that divorce was frowned upon but cheating was just a slap on the wrist and being told to avoid each other. Like, divorce feels like a better option than murder...

It was however refreshing that the church elders were expecting “just another adultery confession” and were shocked by the murder confession. In these cases it often seems like adultery and divorce is not okay but murder is considered an acceptable out lol

Everyone in this episode seems so insufferable. I wonder what all their kids (now adults) are like

Not sure what "hidden in plain sight" means.

This expression refers to something or someone that is purely visible or in "plain sight", yet completely unnoticed or overlooked.

The last line in a Casefile episode is usually meaningful but I didn't get that sense in this episode. Did anyone make out any meaning from the line, a quote from Colin? It seems like Colin outsourced his conscience to G-d. He didn't have a conscience but he did have religious belief, in a superstitious sense. Maybe that's why he figured that if he confessed his bad luck would stop. I think he gave evidence against Hazel because he felt vindictive about the fact that she broke it off with him. She probably didn't for so long because she was afraid he would turn her in but then finally she couldn't deal with him anymore. He never forgave her, clearly. She's a bit of an enigma in all this.
