BTF Questions
It is time for another BTF and Q&A. The cases that we will be covering this episode are; Case 351 Neelma, Kunal and Sidhi Singh, Case 352 Gregory Smart, Case 353 Jaidyn Leskie and Case 354 The Gilgo Beach Serial Killings. If you have any questions relating to these cases or any general questions for the team, put them in the comments below.

Two general questions: Firstly, have any of the team listened to the "Lies in Lismore" podcast from the ABC here in Australia, that covers the currently unavailable Case 55: Simone Strobel. If so what were your thoughts?? Secondly, Casey, do you still not care who wins the NRL grand final?? 😜
We missed this before recording Jacob but will answer it on the next BTF.

Hi, I relistened to the Jaidyn Leskie case because this episode had so many twists and turns that kent me scratching my head. I wrote down a timeline (i usually never take notes during casefile) and what struck me as odd was the whole "pattern" of joking aka lying by Greg. Why would he set up the sisters against each other, then lie about the child being in the hospital while admitting to katie that Jaidyn was safe at home? I get why lying about the child being at the hospital saves you from Belinda worrying about the reason why greg showed up alone in the car. It seemed too premeditated considering he joked about it before the pig people came by? I think, my question is, if we look dieper into the timeline, what is logic and what is not? I am still really confused by it. Question 2 ! Last year I read that there was a submission for Louisa Ionaddis's corners inquest. Are there any updates about that case? I hope she and her loved ones recieve justice..
Milly, once again (!) amazing research and thoughtful writing with the Gregory Smart episode. I love how you presented this story in a perfectly-non-linear-way. The content depth and presentation style is so interesting and engaging to listen to! My question, as an educator and mom of teens, I’m really interested in learning how much the school knew/didn’t know about Pamela and Billy’s relationship/child abuse taking place? Rumors and talk amongst the teens sure seemed to be running rampant, almost like it was normalized. Was it possible that adults at the school knew and it went unreported to law enforcement? Did you come across any information on this in your research? Thank you! - A Casefile Superfan
After ten years of making Casefile, how have you each grown personally and creatively? (I know some of the writers have been there for less than ten, but you get my point) Looking back, are there any behind-the-scenes stories, unexpected challenges, or things about producing this show that you can share now that you might not have been willing to reveal in the early days? What are your proudest moments? And your hardest learned lessons?
Have you folks ever considered looking into the case of Jacob Wetterling. It was a heart wrenching case that took 27 long years to finally resolve. Tore up the heart of the whole state of Minnesota. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Jacob_Wetterling
General: Do any of you play video games to wind down? If so, what do you play?
I read Tracers in the Dark after it was mentioned in the Silk Road episodes - it’s really good! Do you recommend any other books you’ve come across in your research?
In Jaidyn Leskie's case why do you think no child neglect charges were ever laid against Domaszewicz? All amazing episodes 🙌
Case:352 A question that’s always shocked me, why do people get married that don’t even like each other, in this case of Gregory Smart was deceived and it was within a year and don’t tell me that there were no signs it wasn’t dysfunctional. Hearing cases like this make me furious, get on with your life, get a dog or a cat if you “need” to love something, don’t get married.
GENERAL How do you decide what stories will be for subscribers?
Everyone gets all the episodes now right? Like the Elena Milagro Hoyos episode is already on the public feed.
Gilgo beach murders I found it very telling that Rex Heuermann said his first wife was “uncontrollable.” Does the wife who divorced him for financial reasons maintain a relationship with him to this day? Do his wife and grown children continue to live in the house where he raped, tortured, murdered and dismembered women?
In June 2024, Pamela Smart publicly accepted responsibility for her husband’s death. In July 2026, her lawyers filed a petition for a new trial based on some faulty translation of secret audio recordings. The court rejected these arguments and she remains in prison with no eligibility for parole. What do you think the strategy was here? She admits to guilt and then asks for a retrial as if that admission won’t factor in if she gets one. My cynical take is that some Public Defenders attached to the Merrimack County Superior Court found something they could submit billable hours to the State of New Hampshire for, and proceeded to do so.
Hello! Long time listener and first time subscriber/commenter. I attribute Casefile for my love of podcasts! Keep up the great work! I have two general questions: I have been going back and listening to all the old Behind the Files now that I have access and learned that Erin is a horror fan. I was wondering if she’d seen Obsession and whether or not she enjoyed it? I’m from the US, but funnily enough my two favorite podcast networks are based in Australia. The other being Sanspants Radio, in particular their D&D is for Nerds. I was wondering if any of the Casefile team was familiar or played D&D at all?
I don’t have much to say about true crime these days, but I do have two other things to consider: 1. Those of you in the northern hemisphere, it’s time to check the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and change the filter in your furnace if you have one as well as make sure the space in front of the intake and outflow vents are clear. Make sure you know your fire safety plan and go over it with your family. In case of a fire, you have two minutes of breathable air before the smoke kills you, even if you’re on your hands and knees “below” the smoke. 2. Spend time with your loved ones. I thought I would have decades more to hang out with my dad and now I have, at most, six months. Go and be with the people who make your life bright. Just an hour over coffee. A long phone call. A handwritten letter. You don’t know when it’s all going to get yanked out from underneath you. Love from Canberrafornia.
Hang in there. Just lost my sister last month.
Gilgo beach: do you guys there any other unidentified victims or locations tied to his activities between 1993 and 2010 that law enforcement has not yet connected to him? Do you think the stigma around sex workers affected the investigations? The women were always named in headlines along with words like “prostitute” and “sex worker” etc.
Would you consider covering the infamous "Miami Zombie" case? I'd be interested to hear a fresh, research-led look at the incident, particularly the events leading up to it, the theories surrounding its cause, and whether advances in toxicology or similar cases over the years have provided any new insights. Thank you
Do you record multiple part episodes all at once and then cut them into parts in editing? Or do you record them in different sessions like normal episodes?
