Casefile Extra: Elena Milagro Hoyos
When 20-year-old newlywed Elena Milagro Hoyos was diagnosed with tuberculosis in the spring of 1930, her family took her to the Marine Hospital in Key West, Florida, for treatment. There, they met a German-born scientist named Carl Tanzler, who promised that he – and he alone – could save Elena from certain death. The Hoyos family’s despair quickly turned to hope, but little did they know the disturbing lengths Carl would go to preserve Elena’s life.

I've listened to every episode of Casefile. This was the first one I couldn't get through. Creepy!
Does anyone else remember the HBO Autopsy series that featured this story? The more and more I listened to this episode, I kept thinking this sounds so familiar and it finally clicked!
Lord may I never be this down bad
Best cold open ever
God dammit Carl.
What the fuck did I just listen to 🤣
Carl gave me Heathcliff vibes. Excellent storytelling, as always!
To give you an idea of how infamous this case remains in Florida, my thought upon reading the title was "Oh, the poor woman whose corpse was stolen by that fucking freak?"
This has to be the most macabre, unsettling case of male entitlement/ stalking I've ever heard in my 50+ years! Reminded me of Cormac McCarthy book, "Child of God." I need a long hot shower to wash off the creep.
well, that was a wild ride 😅
One word encapsulates the madness of this story ... Florida.
💀
Yikes! The original “Florida man”. Made me nauseous!
The fact that we’re getting new content like this on a “break” is very generous. I understand why these extras are distinguished from full cases, but there’s never a drop in quality. Thanks for the work y’all do!
We’re on a break?
What the fuck, Carl????
Does the background music HAVE to be that loud?
I don’t know why people complain about this so much. it’s not loud or overpowering at all, it adds ambience and sets the aesthetic for the storyline as it’s told.
Perfect length for me.
Yay, happy Saturday 😀
Omg I had forgotten about this one
wait I’m thinking of The Dollop
