Waco BTF
Hello everyone. If you have a question on the Waco series please put it in the comments below. As always, you can also ask any general questions you have for the team.

General question; I went back and started re listening to the podcast from episode 1. I noticed there's alot more sound clips like interviews, phone calls, creepy music, news broadcasts, etc. Did you move away from that because you felt it wasnt beneficial? Or another reason?
I think this is such a well done series, comprehensive and objective as always. I was young and only peripherally aware of Waco when it happened and this sparked my interest. As I explored more content it was eye-opening seeing what a preventable disaster and FBI embarrassment the fiasco was. Sort of a perfect storm. I appreciate you mentioning the other events precipitated by Waco or which were related - it really gave context to that time, the violence, and the anti-authority mentality that was brewing. With a massive undertaking like this, what was your approach to the research? Did you have an outline in mind or did it form as you dived in? I’m always appreciative of and curious about the team’s ability to be thorough, not dry, and also tell a story that keeps you on your toes. Thank you all! (P.S. if my question/comment is too late for recording, feel free to disregard!)
Who's idea was it to preface and situate the events first through Ruby Ridge? I thought that was an excellent creative decision thanks.
Hi. I was wondering about the Claremont Serial Killer case. Will U be doing an updated one? Also when U investigate/research do U release more than the police and media are able? Thanks you
Hello Casefile team. I honestly never heard of the Waco seige before, and listening to this series made me feel like I was in some action fueled Orwell novel. Sadly, the reality of the whole operation also made me feel like government raids v.s fringe movements that are potentially dangerous still happen in this present day. There were many questions that came to mind, feel free to choose only one for this Q&A: 1. What was the biggest misconception you held about the Branch Davidians or the government before you started your deep-dive research? 2. After covering and analyzing this case, do you see any similarities between this case and modern day fringe movements like anti-government or even cults? 3. Is it possible to conclude an objective moral boundary in raiding a multi-subject enemy (e.g Branch Davidians), as in at which point does it become immoral to escalate a situation to a point that it involves the death of multiple, even innocent individuals inside or outside a compound?
With Family Court, Snowtown, and Claremont being unavailable, it seems they would be perfect for Casefile Archives. Do you have plans to rerelease these cases as part of that collection?
1) can we get a specific deadline to send questions? I don’t think you guys answered any of the ones people added in your second BTF post about the Folbigg episode. 2) I am copying my case-related question here: “This case highlighted how diaries and statistical rarity were used against Kathleen Folbigg, which were later undermined by science. A lot of weight was placed on Kathleen's apparent "coldness" or emotional reactions that were different from what society expects of a grieving mother. This got me thinking abou the Lucy Letby case, a British nurse recently convicted of murdering babies in the neonatal unit. Do you see any similarities between both cases, particularly with the use of statistics to build a case against them and the court's admission of private notes expressing guilt/self-blame?”
The parallels to the Lucy Letby case are interesting!
Amazing beginning to the year! I am interested to know how many hours of research this took? Also, would love to know if you take a side in this case? I watched this unfold on the news when it happened and was ashamed of our FBI.
I can’t remember if this has been answered before, but how has the Casefile team grown over the years? It was obviously just you for episode one, but what were the episode numbers for when other team members joined? If you are willing to share, were there previous team members who don’t work for Casefile anymore?
Hello, I hope you are all doing well! The Waco episodes blew me away. I knew the bare bones of it but I had no idea that there were branch davidian followers in the UK and Australia. Did any of you know that before researching this case?
Great series. Well done to all
Hi Casey and Co: as you know, I was born in Australia, in Canberrafornia, North South Wales, but in 1993 I lived in Lausanne, Switzerland. I knew about the Waco Siege only as footage of billowing smoke on the news, but as an 8yo obviously didn't quite understand what was going on. Explanations varied depending on which adult in my life I asked-- fellow Canberrafornians leaned toward "Evil cult leader refused to come out and set themselves on fire out of hatred" while the scientists my stepdad worked with went for "Evil American government trapped women and children in a building and then rammed a tank into it, starting a fire that killed everyone." From your comments on the North Hollywood Shootout episode, it seems like you and I are around the same age; did you ask the adults in your life about Waco, and how did they try to condense it down for you? Alternately, did you hear any non-news-broadcaster adults discussing the event, and what was your takeaway as a child? (question extends to anybody else who'd like to answer)
Why Waco? Has it been a case on your list for a while from suggestions, did you have interest in the case, or both? Very well researched and I got to talk to my dad a lot about it too who was alive when it happened and remembers the news coverage of it. That brings me to my next question, were any of you alive during Waco? If so, what were your thoughts? How do you feel about how the ATF and FBI handled this? Thanks for all your work, excited to hear future episodes!
I would ask, has there been any notable ATF raids post Waco? You mentioned that they focused more on violent gangs over small time arm dealers. Would be interested to know about any specific instances you may have heard of read about during research of post-Waco?
Did you guys ever consider if maybe a Waco member would be listening to this one? Sometimes I wondered in the comments if there were any former members. Also, before you started researching, what did you guys know about the case and did you learn anything that surprised you/was contrary to what you thought you knew? I genuinely believed this happened in like the late 70s.
Yes! There are former members. One of them works around the corner from me. He was on 60 Minutes a while back and said he still believes Koresh is a prophet. If you're outside of Australia this may not work: https://www.9now.com.au/60-minutes/2018/clip-cjemf3fj7001j0ho55xrpe437 If you can't, try and look up Andrew Craddock.
Hey guys! In the last BTF you went through a bit of what happens behind the scenes. I’m really interested in how big your team is, what roles you have and if you have plans to expand? I listen to a few other podcasts (smaller than Casefile) and they seem to have much larger teams. Just interested to know your perspective ☺️ Like always, love your work and loved the Waco series.
