Casefile Revisited: The Wanda Beach Murders
On January 11, 1965, 15-year-old Christine Sharrock and Marianne Schmidt spent the day at Cronulla Beach with Marianne's four younger siblings. After lunch, the two teenagers went for a walk into the nearby sandhills at Wanda Beach, but never returned.
The following day, their bodies were found in the sand dunes. The murders shocked the nation, triggering one of the largest homicide investigations in Australian history. Despite an exhaustive inquiry, police were unable to identify the killer. Decades on, the mystery remains.
Casefile Revisited features newly re-recorded versions of classic episodes, revisiting the stories with enhanced production, fresh narration, and updated research where possible.

This whole case reads like a Discworld Watch novel. Horrible murder, only suspect is someone who looks like anyone, only witness is little kid who can't remember anything but the stuff he makes up, the hunt for a bunch of perverts and nude sunbathers-- including the guy with the box on his head who was definitely Fred-- the repeated 'appeals' that are basically 'anyone seen a guy with a towel at the beach?' The offering of a huge reward that results in people turning in their brothers, uncles, nephews, pets and themselves. All that's missing is Carrot in a full body bathing costume (also with umbrella hat, because he's ginger) winning a surfing contest and Vimes eventually figuring it all out and revealing that the real villain was like, capitalism or something. It takes place while Vimes is on "vacation" in Fourecks. I'm gonna call it 'Serf's Up.' GNU
If you're gonna re-do Mary and Beth Stauffer you have to keep the voices in. For the longest time I thought I'd hallucinated that episode.
This was so fantastic, well done Casefile! Lucky me, new old episodes for the break !! I absolutely got chills when Casey said “this is Casefile” … brilliant !
I loved that he said the name of the episode! I hope they do that going forward!
Yes!! This is great.
Thank you so so much! Fantastic quality! I was myself relistening from the beginning and looking for updates on each episode. Looking forward to this effort.
This was SO good
This is awesome. Over this break I have been going through the first 100 episodes again. I want to say that I still love the original style. I forgot about Casey's little quips he'd throw in and the casual way the stories were told. I'm excited for remastered stuff but the original episodes are still something to be proud of.
I had forgotten those too! Very cool to listen again.
This is 100x better than I thought it was Gonna be! I thought it was just a remastered version of the same episode not a whole new one, aren't we lucky! 🫡💜 I love the "this is casefile" at the end. think it was the naked man who was seen in the sand dunes 😖
Thanks for doing this! I hope that some of the cancelled episodes will be re-released
This was so good 👍 could never really listen to the first 6 or so episodes as the quality wasn’t as good so glad you’ve updated it
god if it gets more people to listen to it then I hope they redo Julian Buchwald and Carolynne Watson, I'm always yelling about it
Ohhhhh what a great refurbishment—!!! I think I can start the Snowtown chant? Next! next!
Yes, Family Court and Claremont as well!
Love this!
Yes!!!! My New Years’ request came through thank you thank you thank you
5/5 excellent episode! So much easier to follow in the professional immersive style we're (as in us listeners) used to.
Thank you so much for these episodes! I only survive your breaks by going through the archives and re-listening! This is amazing!
HELL YEAH WE ARE SO BACK
Appreciate the hard mahi involved with the re records whanau. Aroha mai. 💚🤙🏼
Good to see one of my suggestions has been taken on board. My other suggestions (2) cover the Trudie Adams case (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Trudie_Adams); (3) Give us fortnightly episodes without breaks instead of weekly episodes with two long breaks each year (except for multi-parters, which shouldn't get a week off between parts).
SO EXCITED FOR THESE
Lovely! Can’t wait to revisit those old cases. Perfect timing, too. Thank you :)
Omg!!! New casefile
I love this idea!!
