Case 329: Roseanne Beckett
In mid-1989 in the small New South Wales Town of Taree, local residents and law enforcement alike began investigating a woman named Roseanne Catt. There were allegations that Roseanne was a violent and cruel woman, intent on killing her husband: it was reported that she had thrown a rock at his head, stabbed him with a knife, poisoned his drinks, and solicited hitmen. But this investigation was just the beginning of a case that would grow even stranger the more it unravelled…

This wasn’t a bad episode by any means but I hope you can start covering more serial killers
1 murder per episode minimum would be nice. This season, in terms of case selection and writing direction, has been a major disappointment.
I am clearly a bit slow because I hadn’t caught on to the pattern of Casey as unreliable narrator that other listeners have lately. What an incredible, infuriating episode. Absolute credit to the casefile team (and absolute discredit to the NSW “justice” system!)
My mind is still stuck on the fact the friend went into the office and collected all the samples and the court was like, "what chian of evidence?" and just let it in. You knew from the title Roseanne would be the victim from the title but not gonna lie, for the whole first hour I kept thinking there was maybe a second Roseanne. Great writing from Erin!
The level of corruption and absolute malice against this woman was infuriating and made me SICK to my stomach. The last time a Casefile provoked this reaction was with the Janabi Family episode. Kudos to the team!
You just know it's going to be an absolute disaster of an investigation when you hear the words "New South Wales Police". The icing on the cake is the crown taking another ten years to pay restitution. I visited NSW last year (cannot recommend highly enough) and was ever fearful of the extremely corrupt and incompetent law enforcement. An impression I acquired after years of listening to Casefile :D
The worst corruption was cleaned up years ago. NSW is no different to any other Australian state or any western country.
Erin always writes bloody well. Holy hecka!
Wow! I read her book years ago but never finished it because I just couldn’t believe it—it felt so far-fetched at the time. Thank you for telling her story so clearly. I’m so sorry for everything Roseanne went thru, I truly hope she found peace.
So many failings in multiple social systems throughout this story. The Catt children were terrorized and traumatized by their father. Institutionalized and released with seemingly no guardrails, living across the street, hiding under the floor boards?! Can you imagine living with that fear and uncertainty all the time? And then watching the only stable, secure adult in your life be imprisoned for a decade, leaving you at the whims of a broken foster system. I hope they were able to heal and get adequate support.
This was an insane episode. I knew there would be a twist similar to recent episodes but my mind was blown all through out this one.
Bloody hell
It’s seems like we are in the era of Casey as unreliable narrator - three eps in a row have been a “but wait!” sorta thing. I don’t mind it but it’s gotten to the point where I don’t believe anything he says for the first half of the episode!
Then don’t listen.
Holy shirtballs batman, this is near my hometown...
Hadn’t heard of this one before, I had a feeling it wasn’t all as it seemed
Wow, shocking case!
Okay STOP, stop, everyone stop what they're doing, I absolutely refuse to believe "professional kangaroo shooter" is a real job
It is, it's necessary to cull numbers in some areas. They're used for dog meat, the pelts are used, etc etc.
Listening now. You guys only get better and better. Thank you for what you do!
