Case 323: The GPO Girl
On Thursday October 10 2013, passersby noticed a distraught looking teenage girl, crying and shivering outside of Dublin’s General Post Office building. When police officers approached the girl, she either couldn’t, or wouldn’t, talk. The mystery teenager – soon dubbed the GPO girl – was taken into care, and experts suspected that she was a victim of sex trafficking. When attempts to identify the GPO girl failed, Irish investigators went public with the case, not realising they were just dealing with just the tip of the iceberg in a crime spree that spanned continents.

I want to know where all this money shes spending comes from. Wild. Great ep!
The background music really stood out in this ep. Nice job Mike :)
Some people here are just rage baiting… smh
I hear some of the criticisms below on this episode. I think some are so outraged that this was allowed to continue that they need to hear some of that outrage. I disagree, there are so many episodes where the voice of victims and their families shine through. I think over indulging in that sort of commentary or forcing it into the storytelling that already brings these cases to the forefront can cause nearly unlistenable podcasts. There are a number of true crime podcasts that don't go 10 minutes without the hosts expressing some sort of disgust. It's the worst thing, because it's predictable, doesn't add to the story and after a while is the reason I leave. There are a number of true crime podcasts that over indulge in the commentary of the crime, even without the hosts doing it, and that still drags out the story. When it fits, tells us more, when it doesn't add anything, say less. My Over-Indulged Opinion: Ira Finn is doing her best job of impersonating the GPO Girl.
Oh my goodness, have you heard this podcast?? Scarily similar…. Carrie Jade does not Exist https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/carrie-jade-does-not-exist/id1714273128
You scrutinize Samantha, alright, you cite relevant experts on her condition, ok sure, but you have nothing to say about the criminal justice systems that repeatedly failed to actually treat or rehabilitate this person in any way?? I become less enamored with this show every time they refuse to take anything remotely resembling a critical lens to a case. Like they couldn’t find even one person, like a victim advocate, mental health professional, anybody- who had something to say about the utter, repeated failure of the system here??
I have to check - ARE YOU THE GPO GIRL?
After hearing this story, I’m honestly speechless. It’s crazy! She clearly needs some sort of help. 😳
Disappointing episode IMO. Dull and repetitive.
Go complain to the lady who kept pulling the same trick over and over mate, it ain't Casey's fault
Oh my god... they found her. It's my girlfriend who goes to a different school. You don't know her, she goes to a different school. But she's real and she let me touch her b utterfly clips...
you said somewhere that you recently almost died and I just want to say that I'm glad you're okay, I would miss your patreon comments
And my option is they did not present it well. So GFY.
You are being so rude in these comments. Telling people to fo eff themselve? Maam, get a grip please.
She’s gonna keep FA until she FOs. All it takes is one parent to snap.
She is a good looking woman. It’s very sad. She needs a hospital not jail
What does her being "a good looking woman" have to do with anything??
What a story. So glad case file is back. I hope you had a nice holiday.
This is a terrible episode. Much of it is confusing and just awful. You need to do much better. Stop having crimes against kids!
this is a confusing case. The fact it's confusing is not Casefile's fault. They presented it very well, imo.
She tried to pass as so many characters with VERY conspicuous names. Ocean? Dakota Johnson? 😅
Sleeping Beauty Hepburn got me
I laughed when I saw the title of the episode. I've happy to see Samantha getting the attention she deserves outside Ireland.
Absolutely wild. The motives must be psychological, because it sounds like she could’ve just…I dunno…gotten a job and made more money.
Definitely for the attention.
One day a case will discuss a victim getting an email from "what looked like a legit email account" and instead of them believing it must be true, the case will continue "and they didn't believe it but they wanted to find out what happens in the next chapter so they went along with the exiled Swedish princess to see hiw far they'd go." I feel like every few cases there's a suspicious claim then a legit-looking email.
What does GPO stand for?
I think the post office where she was found
about 45 minutes in i was convinced i must be coming to the end of this wild story and then realized the episode still had nearly an hour to go. Absolutely bonkers. This one reminds me VERY much of Andrew Blake / thanfiction / Jordan Wood — both with the zillion identities and the dragging his victims around on urgent emergency road trips and constantly leveling up with new outlandish fabrications.
A wild ride - well told as usual. Her motive? She enjoys it! And she will keep doing it 🤦🏻♀️
I'm irish. Never heard of this. Very interesting
She is a professional time waster and devourer of goodwill... 😅 Why is there no charge of "excess wasting people's time/resources"? How's that not a crime? Was wondering what the casefile treatment of this case would be... Great work!
I’m Australian I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this one!! Great episode! Thanks team xx
Same here!
Irish and never even heard of this one. Gonna be interesting to listen
Eamonn Tully ... Irish? Nah - I don't believe it!
Was about to go to sleep, but I’ve changed my mind now
OMG!!! I have wondered if this would ever be an episode!!! Can’t wait to listen
