Case 312: Dustin Wehde
When first responders arrived at the Roberts family home in the small town of Early, Iowa, on December 13 2001, they found 20-year-old Dustin Wehde lying in a pool of his own blood. The homeowner, Tracey Roberts, claimed she’d shot Dustin in an act of self defence after he and another unknown assailant broke in and threatened to kill her and her children. As investigators looked into possible suspects, several persons of interest emerged. But all was not as it seemed.

I cannot replay this, after closing the app multiple times, can you please try and reupload it ?
so what’s the theory here? why was he there and why did she kill him?
If I've learned anything from listening to true crime over the years, whenever a female successfully defends herself against male home invaders, something's up.
I had never heard of this story, but I'm impressed with the cold case work. This woman is crackers and harmed many souls. I think she is where she belongs. I'm sorry the family can't relocate to Australia.
This was wild.
What a diabolical person.
As someone who grew up in Iowa, this story still gets referenced to this day
Not that this is the point, but can we take a second to side-eye the doctor who was like, "she wanted to do drugs and have sex so I just gave myself these really strong drugs so we could have sex." Like, solving the murder is definitely the priority but could we circle back on the doctor and his ethics?
Right? Midazolam?! It causes retrograde amnesia, so you don’t remember anything after it wears off. I mean, wouldn’t you at least want to remember the sex? 🤪 So many poor choices on this guy’s part.
25 minutes in and wow, what a rollercoaster. If someone wrote this as a book; they’d be laughed at for it being too unrealistic
That is a f*cked up trust excercise
I will put in my annual request for you to cover Trudie Adams ...
My annual request is for Christine & Amber Lundy
Ahhhh have long thought this was a perfect case for you guys. Excited to listen!
This woman had so many victims. Dustin, her two husbands, the doctor, Burt who she groomed to lie for her, her other children who feel trapped because of her, Dustin's father who died by suicide, his mother who lives with depression, her own father who had a heart attack, even Michael's new girlfriend whose identity she stole! (Also, let's be real, she probably had numerous other various victims prior to all of this that we've never learned about.) And she has zero remorse for any of it. It's just breathtaking. Great case, Casefile team!
