Shorter video suggestion box post~

Howdy folks!

As I'm taking a temporary break from working on longer (& more depressing) videos, I thought I'd make a post on here that people can respond to with suggestions for shorter (& less depressing, hopefully) projects.

Anything in particular you'd like to see me talk about? If so, leave a comment below & let me know! Ty~

I recently watched your 10k Q&A, and you talked about your favorite non-fiction book being City of Darkness. Would you be interested in a video about the book? The city? Any other book you like? You hate? A book. Do you have any thoughts on making a video about a book. Or any cities; cities are interesting.

j
joe · October 1, 2021

i want a video where you lift weights for an hour

j
joe · October 1, 2021

or twenty minutes because it's a shorter video

s
sremeolb · September 22, 2021

I read the "short" and "less depressing" bit but I couldn't think of anything. I would love to see a video on vaccine hesitancy and the whole ivermectim crowd.

b
blastbeatenjoyer · September 19, 2021

It's always fun to dunk on Jordan Peterson :D

D
Dane Jago · September 11, 2021

Maybe something more UK related?

F
Finn L'e · September 3, 2021

Hi there! I'm new here. I'd love to watch a response to Jordan Peterson's more harmful arguments, although the video might end up being not so short.

L
Lee Donie · August 21, 2021

you should make a video about imperialism: the highest form of capitalism by lenin! if it's a tough read there is a really great reading group that takes you through it/lots of key anticapitalist theory texts :)

J
Jack White · August 21, 2021

Possibly a video about incel culture and your own experiences? ...I watch the twitch streams so I know that's the plan anyway, just wanted to get involved

P
Professor Hazard · August 20, 2021

You know, I don't know what part of the UK you hail from, but I am always amused in my Tennessee heart when you start your missives off with "howdy".

P
Professor Hazard · August 20, 2021

Anyways, you know what we want. Another video excoriating CinemaSins.

S
Schminx · August 19, 2021

I would like to see something about GB news. Or something about laws on protest, the latter is not talked about much and it's of utmost importance.

N
Nick W · August 18, 2021

Maybe a video about New York City's B-HEARD program to start replacing police with Mental Health responders. NPR put out an article about it here: https://www.npr.org/2021/07/23/1019704823/police-mental-health-crisis-calls-new-york-city. It seems like some uplifting news in a sea of news about police brutality.

J
Jared Perry · August 15, 2021

this is obviously not a light or short topic but eventually i would love to see a video about the Weathermen and why leftist movements dissolve

M
Mick A · August 15, 2021

Ancient Roman infrastructure

I
IrkinInvaderZak · August 14, 2021

Echoing the suggestion for another Cinemasins is Wrong About Everything video, those are amazing and would hopefully be more fun and less depressing to make

B
Bill Gates Frog · August 14, 2021

You make a lot of videos about why some beliefs are wrong (ie PragerU, Black Pigeon Speaks, etc). For something more uplifting/positive, you could consider writing something about affirming a particular belief, or an attitude held by an individual. Perhaps a discussion about someone you find inspiring or optimistic.

R

Why are there so many versions of Crest toothpaste?

x

I agree with the others -- talk about something you enjoy/luv. There's a lot of darkness out there and we could use a break!

L

U
USC Stuff · August 14, 2021

Bit of an odd one, but I'd watch just a simple live reaction and response to the Unlearning Economics video about you. It'd be interesting to see some responses to lefty content, which I imagine is far less depressing and stressful

M
M · August 14, 2021

Oh, and actually, it looks like i'm going to be moving to Liverpool in about a month at short notice. So if you could whip up an Intro to Liverpool that would be neat.

M
M · August 14, 2021

I'd be interested in more videos along the lines of the Pratchett one – not in the sense of tying it in to recent news stories, but in the sense of short videos about authors (or filmmakers or musicians or whatever) who you like/admire beyond just enjoying their work. Whether that means like, profiles or introductions or short analyses of a work by them, I don't know. That would be up to you.

C
CaitSeith · August 13, 2021

How about, for old time sake, Cinemasins is Wrong About Everything III: Tokyo Drift.

G
Greg Johnson · August 13, 2021

I've always enjoyed the reactions to bad movie reviews myself.

M
Martha · August 13, 2021

Gonna be a bit cheeky and suggest a second one. I would really like you to do a video about the appalling hypocrisy of the likes of Joe Rogan pretending it's dangerous for trans women to fight cis women in MMA, while completely ignoring the very real and very serious problem of cisgender male teachers and students abusing women students of Martial Arts, many of whom will be prevented from getting to fight trans women in MMA because they are sidelined and abused too much.

S
Soc-Dem-Ocracy · August 13, 2021

If u watched atla, I’d love a video on the politics of atla and the avatar

S
Soc-Dem-Ocracy · August 13, 2021

Talk about how there’s a lot of people whose ideology is just “I’m against x”. They don’t have any theory/reasoning etc. it’s just, “I hate someone/something”. This leads them to believe in crazy things (tankies, anti-libs like Glenn G. and Matt taibbi, anti-Bernie folks etc.) These people are really interesting to observe and shows why it’s important to believe in things, not just be against things. Hopefully this make sense

I
Izzy · August 13, 2021

I would love to see a video analysing the false equivalence some people draw between transgender people and the phenomenon of some people (most notably, recently, influencer Oli London) identifying as 'transracial'. I would find it useful to learn how to articulate that being transgender and 'transracial' are different even though both gender and race are social constructs.

M
Mayumi Rose · August 13, 2021

Also as a term, transracial describes adopted people

A
Ash Rose · August 13, 2021

It seems you like vtubers, a video that looked at them as a critic (what works vs not with the format) and some of the material concerns, such as how easy a professional actor/VO would be to replace theoretically compared to traditional actors vs the number of people who for safety or other reasons can't/don't want to appear on camera and facerig is a fun way to self express online? Or you could keep it light, whatever, it would be a good excuse to get your own avatar (as a bit) either way.

P
Pidge-eon · August 13, 2021

Terry Pratchett's political views?

J
Jess · August 13, 2021

I'd love to hear more about the discourse about Fauci/Fauci LIED people. There's a lot of noise between Dems wearing "Fauci is the king" shirts and Q conspiracy theorists doing their conspiracy theory shit, and I'd like to hear a take on the Q conspiracy that isn't also thoughtlessly uncritical of the covid response/Biden.

J
Joel Smith · August 13, 2021

A brief review of Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations". The Right (at least here in the US) has long pointed to Adam Smith as a sort of founding father figure of a decidedly social darwinist view of the market, however if you actually read his work it is very much about regulating markets to make sure the market players, ie corps, do not rig the game in their favor, as Smith points out they are always trying to do. It is also about the dangers of allowing too much wealth to concentrate in the hands of the few, particularly banks.

T
Tetsuo Shima · August 13, 2021

your favourite Columbo episodes vid?

L

K

I would like to see a video about the refugee crisis.

M
Madeleine C · August 13, 2021

400k qand a? if debunking right-wing arguments against immigrants isn't too depressing you could do that

m
minohoonoo · August 13, 2021

Or you could explain Materialism and Empirio-Criticism so I can understand it for my reading group lol

m
minohoonoo · August 13, 2021

Maybe a video about a game or movie that you enjoyed? Saw someone above mention disco elysium. I also love your cinema sins videos but for the sake of your sanity I probably shouldn't recommend that...

R
Ricardo Costa · August 13, 2021

There's this channel called Cinema Sins. Maybe you could review them.

a
alexis · August 13, 2021

your pratchett video was great and I think reviews of other works of his that you really like would be interesting (or any other piece of media you enjoy). I also loved your videos about doom and cuphead, as somebody who didn’t play either lmao so a video focusing on a game would be cool. or something about rome - you’ve never done a video about rome that wasn’t connected to some bullshit (that i’ve seen) so if there’s something about roman history that you find particularly cool that would be fun to see

S
Stolenoc · August 13, 2021

could you make a video where it's just 400 different takes on "hello, everyone"?

J
Jesse Berg · August 13, 2021

Maybe something about your idea of where society ought to be going. I get that you're pretty far to the left, but be more specific. If a book entitled, World History, 2025-2050 fell out of a time machine into your lap, what would you want it to say?

J
Jim Baron · August 13, 2021

I'd love a deep dive into literally any aspect of FFX that interests you. Just gush about Auron for 10 straight minutes.

E
Everybody's Talking At Once · August 13, 2021

It was rad hearing you talk about Terry Pratchett. It'd be great to hear you talk more about media you love. (Giving the finger to TERFs and such in the process is always welcome, but not required).

E
Eagle Chee · August 13, 2021

Less depressing is tough!

S
Soc-Dem-Ocracy · August 13, 2021

If you’ve seen doctor who, I’d love a video on the politics of the doctor. Some kind of media analysis would be nice

M
May Miao · August 13, 2021

I'd like to see a video about seagulls

M
Marche Taylor · August 12, 2021

Maybe a light video talking about some of the weird topics in Q anon? I opt not to engage with them, but every once in a while I hear something ridiculous come from there. Like them thinking that Trump signaled “Q” to them with his hands in morse code in one of his last addresses.

P
PotentPinion · August 12, 2021

Stuff that makes you hopeful that we aren't doomed? If you have any?

A
Arben · August 12, 2021

Have you played Disco Elysium? Could make for an interesting video, I dunno!

j
johanna (gorgeous girl) · August 12, 2021

I agree with the James Joyce commentor. That would be a rockin vid

M
Marissa Collins · August 12, 2021

I'd love anything that's more personal -- I feel like we know nothing about you!

M
Martha · August 12, 2021

Maybe something about the response to trans women in the Olympics, and the way that women who were excluded for ridiculous reasons were treated.

J
Jan Anders Bremer · August 12, 2021

How about a video about some sort of book, game, film, documentary, or video that you feel had an influence on you as a person that you think others should perhaps watch? Fiction or non-fiction, doesn't matter.

A
Alex Alcalde · August 12, 2021

Another response to a really bad pop culture take from some conservative YouTube is always fun and not depressing.

C
Chris Schaich · August 12, 2021

Would love to hear your take on modern Hollywood movie trends a la The Critical Drinker (whose film criticism I actually enjoy, but feel his anger/blame is misplaced).

S
Sarah Wilson · August 12, 2021

I really enjoyed your Hiroshima and Nagasaki video (which I know, depressing) because it's something I knew but high school history can be pretty lacking in perspective. So I'd like anything where you add in some context on historical moments. But short, like a slightly longer version of Canada's Heritage Minutes? "A Misconception of our Heritage"

H
Hedrigal · August 12, 2021

A video talking about the racism of cryptozoology would be fun. It's kind of frivolous but considering how a lot of people talk about it from either a fandom or zoological perspective, but they rarely talk about how it's basically an industry for turning indigenous mythological characters into a product meant for white people, it would probably also be good to have.

H
Hedrigal · August 12, 2021

I also say it would be fun because on average cryptozoologists are weird guillable idiots, who on hearing about an African water spirit, believe that the people telling them about it are just idiots who don't realize that their ancestors saw a dinosaur. Rather than it being a consciously mythical creature.

M
Mulloy · August 12, 2021

I've always thought the story of Alaric was pretty fun. Just dreaming of conquering Rome then doing it.

A
A bowl of vegan tomato soup · August 12, 2021

I'd like to hear your thoughts on something you particularly like or think is underappreciated, and why. One of the things I love that Hbomb does is balance out his 'x is terrible' videos with 'y is genius'. It's always interesting to hear why people love something, and one of the things I enjoy most in a good conversation, our serves as a good reminder that life is, you know, good and people have real reasons for getting out of bed that are valid, unique, and interesting.

D
Doug Lunsford · August 12, 2021

I'll watch a film video essay thing all day every day so I'd be happy to see more of those. media crit is one of my comfort foods when it comes to YouTube. and while it probably doesn't fall under the "less depressing" banner, I do somewhat miss the videos examining some of the more bizarre far right YouTubers as I find those people endlessly fascinating. it's a format that's kind of outdated nowadays and most people making vids from the left have moved on but they were a good laugh back in the day.

N
Noisetank01 · August 12, 2021

Maybe another video game one? Final Fantasy VII? I watched the stream where you and Jen played through FFVII a while back and it seemed clear that you have a lot you want to solidify in people’s minds about the anti-capitalist messaging present within the text. I think that messaging is clear too, but, I’ve seen plenty of liberal and conservative attempts at refutation of said messaging- maybe there’s something there? I ask because the video that I continually use to attract friends to your channel is the “doom outrage” one- and now a lot of those friends have since proceeded to watch everything else you’ve made. (I also love the Doom/fake outrage vid, but fwiw, personally, my *favorite* video is still the one about railway privatization! I reference it all the time!)

J
J · August 12, 2021

I like the way you structure arguments and walk through an issue, so am pretty chill about the topic. You're last vid on discworld was interesting becasue I'd already seen the twitter threads, and was aware of the conversation - so any like current conversations that you find interesting would be cool? Or just hot takes. Also I agree with others, reviews of stuff you like/dislike.

E
Ellis Fox · August 12, 2021

I don't know if it would take long or not, but a response to the whole IDW thing about "identity politics" being the worst thing in the world would be nice. Whenever I hear them whinge about it I always roll my eyes but I'm not smart enough to debunk it myself :(

V
Veelk · August 12, 2021

You're channel has become a sort of deconstruction of alt-right lies and manipulations, and that's awesome, but I also liked your video on Doom and TLJ and Cuphead. Those are still deconstructing alt-right bullshit, but you also packaged in your own thoughts of those products in those videos to a little extent. If just talking about games and movies is something you're interested in doing at all, I think you'd find it an easier and lighter subject and I'd like to hear your thoughts on stuff. I remember you talking about Ghost of Tsushima and remember thinking I'd like to hear your thoughts on it in video form, for example.
