The minitank has new tracks!

Hi everyone!, this week I kept fixing issues with the minitank and I swapped the tracks for new ones which have lots of more room between links so sand does not clog them. Also added spacers to the traction axle and made a few notches on the motor output shafts. This is the last test of this iteration of the minitank because I can already tell you that all the parts for the new version finished printing and I think those will fix hopefully all the issues that we encountered so far.

Let me know what you think in the comments! thanks!!

P.S.: I'd love to know if I should switch to other kind of "no tank" projects for a few videos so we can have some variety.

It'll end up working for sure!!!

Please build a stair climbing robot that serves breakfast! If that's too much, how about a self balancing RC pogo stick? LOL

LOL!

Hi, Ivan. I always look forward to your videos every week and enjoy each one of them. You are still one of the few makers/Youtubers left that consistently release a video on time. I respect your attitude of keep on making something to the end and make it work. However, seems like this baby tank is seriously starting to give you uphill. Don't give up! But maybe combine a few weeks of work (and failures) into one video how you get it to work? And update us on other projects? I.e: I was looking forward to see your ball cannon work on the big tank. But a bit of variety would also be good. Not going to tell you what I want to see. Surprise us! Unless it is an automatic hammer thingy. Just kidding :-D.

I'll try to vary a bit the theme on the videos so we can have a bit of surprise on Fridays. About that hammer thingy... XD Thanks!!

an idea for a video: you've obviously learned so much from all this printing and testing. how about trying to distill that knowledge with some printing and design tips? a list of design/print lessons that you've learned, what to avoid, ways to attach, how to incorporate print direction, when to split and join parts versus a single print, etc.

Is extremely difficult to make "tutorials" or tip videos that can appeal to a broad audience, and I'm most probably not the one to follow in terms of doing the things the right way. I try to incorporate as much as I deem entertaining on the videos... I'll take it into account. Thanks!!

Personally I'm still loving the tank and don't mind if you stick with it for a while longer. Maybe do a break from tanking once you finish minitank R2, to give you time to print parts for the big tank?

Yes!! I'll do a couple of videos about the improvements on the shop soon and a collab that I think is going to be really fun. Thanks for the feedback!!

you should consider setting up a sand pit at your house, or even inside your shop (2x2 meter box). sand is fairly cheap to have delivered by a truck. that way you can get a lot more testing done and quicker turnaround. another approach would be to build a bench dynamometer of sorts. Something where you fix the robot on it, and can having a rotating surface under each track, where you can tension it to create feedback load on your bot tracks. Then you can hammer the controls and "break" test it with a controlled set of forces. I'm curious, why do you think the axle bent? Do you have to go to a higher diameter, or use a hardened steel? Thanks for sharing all of the videos. I coach a robotics team (FTC) of 7th and 8th grade kids, and I tell them to watch your channel for inspiration. Would you consider doing a short 10 minute facetime with the team, so that they could ask you questions about your work, and possibly show you the robot that they're making? (They ultimately get judged to a degree based on reaching out to industry experts like you!) We use 3d prints for specialty pieces, but we use aluminum and wood for the main structural. I love how you push the limits and try to make as much 3d printing as possible!

I don't think the sand would stay in the pit for too long... And the Axle bent because the pivoting point was too far from where the force was applied as the main reason. About that Facetime sure! Send me a message through here and we can arrange it. Thanks!

Wait a minute, you're a time traveller :O

Not quite but...

Thanks Ivan, much better 😂 So that you're not stuck with tanks, you could build a "Kettenkraftrad HK101" instead. You're welcome

XD good one!
