Thank you guys for getting to this album I had to run and get a sub here because I think porter is a very unique artist in the way his passion and emotion is presented similar to what your dad was saying I think the openness and rawness is why a lot of us love his music and connect with it. I would encourage you guys to listen to smile as well :D it is more of a rock vibe and goes even more into his honest and emotional side. I love your vibe as a father and son and hope you both give porter some more listens also listen to clarity by zedd porter also helped produce that song as well and its beautiful

A little late to comment and idk if you guys will read this but I'm so glad you guys did this album. It was such a surprise to me that I saw Porter on the thumbnail. This album means so much to me. It helped me through my depression as we all got out of covid lockdown, and amongst other personal things, it was a dark time for me. Porter is my favorite edm artist and when this dropped, I listened and cried just as much as Kevin, if not even more lol. I'm glad you guys resonated with it as much as I did. This album continues to help me in my life and remains my favorite album of Porter's. To add more context for the album, he dropped this while already finding mainstream success in the edm world. His prior album Worlds was an instant classic and honestly has influenced so much music til this day. Sonically its much different from Nurture, so when this one dropped there was some mixed feelings but die hard fans fell in love instantly. He sings so much more on this album and the next! I really hope you guys give SMILE! a listen. It has great themes about parasocial relationships between him and his fans and other really vulnerable topics. Its also another huge shift sonically! Much aloha from a huge long time fan from Hawaii. Love you guys.

Immediately subbed once I saw the youtube upload bc this is my favorite album PERIOD. As someone who grew up with some tough mental health struggles, it takes all those experiences and tucks them into bed with a promise of something better. It's hope in mp3 form. (Actually had a good cry during this that I needed so I was right there with you lmao) You should really do the rest of his discography plus the stuff under his alias Virtual Self (really sick DDR type beats). Since you're already familiar with the Frost Children you should try Smile! next, he collabs on a track with them.

Just wanted to pop in and say, I just got the patreon, and I messaged y'all about this album 2 or so years ago. So glad y'all finally listened. Also I'm sure it's been said, But Porter has said that the reason the vocals are pitched up is because he didn't want to/couldn't hear his own voice saying certain things that really were super personal and were effecting/effected him.

HIGHLY recommend watching a recorded live set from Porter because it’s absolutely incredible

Haven't finished this yet, but so far I really appreciate this reaction video - I've heard Porter before but had no idea that his lyrics are so incredible. The song Musician is so relatable as a person who is obsessively creative, surrounded by people growing up that just didn't get it.

Also just to comment on this album, this single-handedly got me through COVID depression. He released his Secret Sky Set (2020) on Youtube, which had a few remixes of Something Comforting, Get Your Wish, which weaved in and out of The 1975 remixes, a freestyle from Lil B, Hatsune Miku, an Anamanaguchi remix, and more. It really was the light I needed at that time and since then he's meant so much as an artist to me. I'm glad it seems to have resonated with the both of you and hope you get to hear SMILE! which is a completely different sound, moving more towards pop-rock, with his tour featuring a live band. I went to see him in Boston and it was an incredible show, I can't overstate the talent and heart he puts into his stuff.

Judging by Kevin's reaction to Bangarang, PLEASE do his last EP, 'Fuck U Skrillex You Think Ur Andy Warhol but Ur Not!! <3'. It is more or less a DJ set, covering multiple genres of EDM with incredible transitions between each song . He has mastered his mixing and production over the years and you can really hear the difference between that and his earlier work. Several 'lost IDs' appear on the album as well, including Voltage, which was supposed to be released in 2011 but never made it on an album until FUS. Please consider it! Would be a really fun reaction IMO.

Now that I finally got through the reaction, I’d love for you guys to listen to Worlds. That album is a masterpiece — in my honest opinion, it’s Porter’s magnum opus. I really hope at some point you check it out so you can see why he was so frustrated trying to create something new afterward. Worlds was that good, and he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to make something that could live up to it. But Nurture is definitely his baby, no doubt about that.

Hey Connor and Kevin thanks so much for giving nurture a listen, it is my favorite album of all time since it came out! Watching this video made me experience and remember experiencing the full range of emotions that this album gives me, it's really dope to see both of you connecting it to music you already know. Sometimes I forget how much I love this album so I just go off of my last memory of when it really emotionally impacted me if that makes any sense, but now I can say the last time it has really hit for me is right now. Trying to Feel alive is my favorite song on the album, the intense emotion I feel from it is unrivaled. Love yall.

Hey TTT! Excellent reaction! I think you should totally check out Flume’s Skin. It came out sometime in the mid 2010s and was such a huge moment for electronic music. The whole thing is super textured and experimental in a way that still feels fresh today, and I’d be really excited to see how you’d react to it. It’s packed with sounds and ideas that pushed a lot of boundaries at the time, and it has features that seem right up your alley too, like Beck, Vince Staples, Little Dragon. Flume was kind of a pioneer with this one, and I think you’d have a lot of fun diving into it. Also, as a side note, it won the Grammy that year for best electronica/dance music.

I went to his SMILE tour last year and it was the best concert I’ve been to. Also I love using the plugin Little AltarBoy from SoundToys to get that vocal effect. SoundToys makes other great effect plugins too.

My favourite album I've ever listened to. It came out on my 22nd birthday, and at the time being a massive fan of Porter, I still couldn't have imagined how important that album would be to me. The warmest of hugs. About to check this out and I hope yall enjoyed it so we can also get Smile! :D Edit: Definitely check out his live performances, he completely reinvents some of these songs, especially in the Nurture Live sets.

If you wanna dive into more electronic music (please do) i highly recommend TEED (he was featured on Unfold) and SG Lewis new album called Anemoia and if you want a more downlow and continuous experience I recommend Desire by Bob Moses ❤️ PS: I think I suggested one album by TEED (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, maybe that name rings more of a bell) to you guys already actually. I want to state that Musician was not the first single of Nurture, Get Your Wish was the first single which came out in January of 2020, Musician came out as a single yes, but in March of 2021 while the album released in April 2021

I have a plugin I got for free called kerovee, and it has a preset that is very close to the nurture voice. And it makes me happy that you both like the nurture sound!

You mentioned that he must be happy making stuff like this. The “it” in the line “I get so excited when I finally find it” on Musician refers to him making a good song and knowing it’s good.

I was the one who gave Connor the Nurture CD during the Crash tour, and then bumped into the both of y'all at the Boiler Room! I'm so glad you both loved this album! While I'm a ride or die for his first album Worlds (it's what got me into music to begin with) Nurture means sooooo much to me. Perfect album for an afternoon walk during the Spring haha. Watching Nurture release was such a special moment. (I also think it is objectively the better album haha) It really felt like we were never gonna get another Porter album for a while. On top of creative block, his younger brother was dealing with cancer (he's since beat it into remission and is now living in Japan as a fashion designer) and that really marked a low point for Porter. It was so special being there for this albums rollout and seeing Porter concur all his self doubt. Porter is truly "your artists favorite artist" in the electronic music world. His live shows are incredible, his Nurture live show is on YouTube, but his live show for Worlds is my favorite by far. So many incredible visuals, I really admire his art direction. I adored this reaction and I'm glad this album touched the both of you as much as it did. I knew it would speak to Kevin in some ways, I'm just sorry it made him cry so much HAHA. Your guys comment about the "Need a next life, not satisfied to know you just once" line is so true. The more I grow up the more that line sticks with me and makes me emotional. I know I'm yapping but a few fun facts in case they haven't already been brought up - Porter didn't actually know how to play guitar around the Nurture recordings so it's actually all midi from his piano. Blew my mind when listening to Blossom - Speaking of Blossom, it was dedicated to his then girlfriend, now wife Rika! Her name translates to Blossom. Sweet Time was also written about her. - You can actually see Porter chopping up the Kero Kero Bonito sample from one video. Apparently it just spilled out of him, while Something Comforting took the longest, being started in 2016. - I keep talking about Blossom, but there is so much lore behind that one song haha. On his previous album Worlds, he had a song called "Fresh Static Snow" that talks about finding that perfect someone, but never knowing their name. Blossom in a sense is a follow up to that song, where Porter has found his perfect someone. (seriously, he LOVES his wife). Again, I'm really happy y'all finally covered this album, it means a lot to me and so many others. It truly is to this generation of electronic artists, what Daft Punk's Discovery was to people like Porter Robinson. Very excited for the Smile! :D reaction!

He’s so desperate to show appreciation to the real world that he literally hugs the entire earth on the album cover. He’s trying to appreciate life but doesn’t know how. Took him 7 years to figure out how to put it into music. What a happy, anti-depressing, beautiful, hopeful piece of art.

I discovered Porter around the time I discovered TTT. To me both have helped me with so much with mental health. The way Porter rediscovers the joy of the world here is so beautiful.

you know a reaction is good when the off topic comments are unintentionally relevant to the artist at hand that yall have zero knowledge off lmfao - the kanye mention at the beginning, porter was a kanye stan when he wrote worlds (his first album) Kevin talking about parasocial relationships which is relevant to album 3 - ALSO straight up crying two songs in I’ll just say one anecdote, Look at the Sky wasn’t planned to be a single and released so early, but this album came out during the pandemic and Porter felt it was right to release it. Picture this mid pandemic, watching porters secret sky dj set live-streamed on twitch with 10000s everyone live tweeting the set, he ends the dj set revealing a new single and the lyrics come up and there’s just a relentless outpouring of love in the twitch chat people crying and shit all because we were stuck indoors in the pandemic… special song released at a time when we needed it. half of the album wouldn’t have been here without the pandemic, he used the disruption to polish and write some of the best songs on the album… life is wild and so beautiful

Considering how much you guys loved this, I’d absolutely recommend Porter’s newest album SMILR, especially if you liked his vocals, he does a lot more singing with his regular voice on that one

Just for some little added context for the album which helps I think with understanding some of the lyrical content of the album: This album came after Porter had been on a long hiatus after his successful Worlds album, and he spent several years not being able to make a single song, spending his days over and over again in his studio. He battled with depression and felt like he wouldn’t be able to make music again. He also was going through some personal family troubles at the time. This album encapsulates the feelings he was going through and how it felt coming out the other side like with songs “Look at the Sky”.

after seeing how much you guys enjoyed this i really hope you'll check out frailty by jane remover. i really feel like it's the darkness to this album's light. they came out around similar times and feel like two sides of the same coin
