As an American my take on the to michaels is that the only reason Canada has csis is it saw America having the CIA and was like we should do that much like a child seeing their father putting on a tie and thinking all big people need ties. But that creeping Canadian self doubt rears it’s head so in every ones mind they take for granted that Canadian spies aren’t doing actual spy work that shit is left to the real world powers or at least more serious countries the US, Britain, Russia, China, Germany and Israel. Same reason reason why a Canadian trump can’t be successful as it’s our pure idiocy is enabled by our being a continent and world bestriding hegemon who’s chickens couldn’t possibly come home to roost that allows us to produce a trump. Being our next door neighbor and never stacking up left a big chip on the shoulder of your national psyche you people really should be annexed North Dakotans have more state pride than Canadians have national pride and they live in the dakotas.
"not being american" is the core national identity of like 75% of canadians so if an annexation was on the table it would shake a lot of people to their core and enough for them to take arms or something. Although on a purely theoretical basis you'd have a lot more support if the US itself balkanized, then that could open the door to some interesting localized mergers such as the West Coast, Alberta/Texas, Ontario/New York (with Toronto as NYC's meta-Albany), and Quebec with Quebec

Killer take on the Canadaland take on the dear Michaels. I like Jesse Brown and think he does excellent work most of the time. I think the two of them are probably burnt out from the pandemic.
