04 - The Music Man
Hesse tries to convince the rest of us that the 1962 musical film The Music Man is good, to mixed results.

I played the cello part on bari sax in pit orchestra for the music man. Super fun. I wonder if the music nerds on this pod would hate it less if they played it.
Number of times someone said "period." this episode: 15.
I got the reference for the title of this show because my high school theater kid friends did a production of this musical and I, the visual arts kid, did some set design for it. I don't remember if I actually saw the performance but I was working on the set stuff in the room while they were rehearsing. Loved my theater kid friends dearly but did I understand the appeal? Not really. But my painting for the set dressings were banging. I also got volunteer hours for doing the painting and the theater/also guitar teacher, the one openly gay teacher in my small town northern Ontario high school, put down 24 volunteer hours when I had done generously about 5. (You need volunteer hours to graduate high school in Ontario idk if this is common elsewhere) Thanks Mr Aceti you're a real one
My favorite bit of what you might technically call stunt casting in anything anywhere is that in the classic 80s movie The Last Starfighter alien conman Centauri is played by Robert Preston
Ok I get the "blind man's bluff" one -- the definition of empathy is "a fellow feeling", and blind man's bluff is a game where a blindfolded person (a "fellow") is FEELING around for other people. it's not funny and i don't think it was back then either.
Old record store wisdom: Never play the albums you love at work, it’ll make you hate your coworkers when you hear their shitty opinions. Over 20 years later and I still can’t listen to So Tonight That I Might See by Mazzy Star without getting violently enraged at some randos who worked at Tower Records.
So this is where the podcast name comes from. Why?
