Liora's Price of Dignity 0.7.0-prerelease-4
ITCH | MEGA | ITCH-DELUXE | MEGA-DELUXE
Since I finished my plans for SKA, I was able to put a bit of extra time in Liora. I didn't focus on content development and mostly focused on working down my list of content improvements and bugfixes.
On the negotiation side, I finished the battle negotiation upgrade I started... two weeks ago? Who knows, it feels like an eternity. The last time the main use case I wanted to cover was situations such as "Edgar shall throw a Web Bomb on FLYING enemies" so you can contract him to only use a move to counter enemies when said enemies to be countered are part of the combat.
The extension this week has a similar idea but for moves that target Edgar himself (Guard, Protect, Item Consumption, etc.). So for example, you can have Edgar only use Protect in a turn if an enemy is woundup and thus ready to unleash a big Martial. Or maybe you want to have him Guard on Turn 2 but only against such enemies.
For now this covers the upgrade to the combat side of negotiations. I'm not yet sure if I want to further expand it with more trigger conditions or enemy filters, although I could imagine it. The way it's setup now, it's faily easy to expand by adding new target types (current target types are Enemy Type and Enemy State, but could also be Enemy Count or something like that). It's also worth thinking about different triggers maybe like dropping below some HP threshold, but I wonder if that might make the system too complicated...
Originally I conceptualized the system to basically allow adding any kind of restrictions, then I realized that was way too complicated and some restrictions (like enemy typings) are context sensitive in their interpretation, so you can't just split them up cleanly into trigger / effect / restriction without a lot of headaches. Now I have gone back and expanded the system where necessary and by baking the targeting restriction into the effect, it's easier to interpret as it's done in tandem with the effect execution.
Anways, for 0.7.0 this should be enough on the negotiation side, I don't want to spend too much time working on features that aren't useful, so we should maybe let it rest for a bit now.
Moving on, we have more voice acting, as I mentioned in a previous post!
And then it's mostly bunch of small things. You can find a new book in the second mine area, Scam Records can also be turned in for little value to Edgar if you don't have the time to decode them. There are a bunch of minor fixes and improvements regarding Edgar and item usages. Apparantly I forgot to implement a generalized behavior for enchanting his items, so he only did a hard coded check on enchanting regular bombs and nothing else...
On the dungeon side, Darklake has received its mini area changes. Since the area is very difficult, I mostly kept the changes rather tame.
And then it's mostly bugfixes. I was hoping I could also announce the addition of the anal option for sex but the CG is still in progress... I am starting to worry about our CG progress. It's become really bad. The original delivery estimate was 5th of July. And since then it's been "tomorrow" or "next sunday" every day. Our artist said they would finish today as well, but for once I don't want to work until early morning so I'm doing the release now. I'm really not sure what to do...

Current content is quite close to end game highwarden keep where Barbatos resides, but I am hoping there would be more sex scene as currently we have only 2 with dialogue adjustments from which 1 of them is not with FMC. But game fantastic, it just needs more time, some content that would prolong corruption till the End
I think you are doing an amazing job being this transparent regarding what is happening behind the scenes. So regarding the artist: changing the art style at this point would have its challenges and it would definitely feel like a step backwards so maybe you can play with this idea, after a certain threshold you can change artist in a way this would reflect how Liora sees herself and those around her after she is corrupted enough. This is not to say that I don’t like the artwork or the artist should get removed from the work but at the end of the day if there are delays and the received artwork feels both delayed and rushed (if its delayed the quality should feel finished not rushed because there was extra time to work on it but that is my opinion). At the same time you could also lower the amount of scenes that requieres new assets and use already existing assets in more creative ways, I don't like this as much because it would lower the amount of content that we are getting. Or well you could try to talk with the artist to try to reach a compromise. Just voicing my opinions I don’t have the expertise to say if any of these suggestions are viable, better days would come and this game will be completed eventually keep up the amazing job you are doing the fans will understand
The New Game+ bonus still isn't calculating correctly - it doesn't seem to be adding the 50% for Hard mode (for Defeat points at least)
When I try to attack enemy from behind, there is an error and the game atuck. Can you look into this?
If you can drop a save in the bugeport channel for Liora on Discord I can look into it
Would hiring new people help? I imagine it would change the artstyle but as a last resort?
Obviously, I do not have any visibility into what things look like on the production side of things and what arrangements you have with the artist, but as a consumer I'd rather the artist took their time and delivered a quality polished work rather than rush something of acceptable quality just to meet a deadline. I think you've done a good job of ensuring transparency and keeping the users up to date regarding progress on the scene. And honestly, from the date when I first saw the initial sketch I assumed that the finished work along with all variations wouldn't be ready until August. That seemed like a reasonable timeframe and was quite surprised to hear that the expected deadline was July 5th.
The problem is that the result is both delayed and then rushed, which was already a big problem on the last artwork.
So I have a suggestion. Right now all contracts are completely locked in once they are made. This also includes the cosmetic ones like haircolor. Maybe it would be interesting to give the option to escape a clause by paying a certain or even higher value to cancel it, so a different choice can be chosen later instead. You could restrict this to only a few options or make it available for everything.
Yeah it is a bit unintuitive that some contracts can be "upgraded" and some can't and there is no way to know beforehand. Especially with the hairstyle as that's typically not a permanent thing.
That's rough that the artist is falling behind and not giving realistic expectations on delivery. Hopefully the issues will be resolved and things will shift into a better, smoother delivery schedule.
