It was a silly mistake, if he'd asked Kiev Independent first he'd probably not have a problem. Copyrights are a minefield.

All reporters supporting Ukraine should and must be exempt from copyright actions from each other. Ask President Zelenskyy to take action.

I support the Kyiv Independent. I think I will switch to support Caolan instead. This is outrageous.

I canceled my Kyiv Independent subscription and put that $ to subscribing to Caolan on Substack. Slava Ukraine!

Hey Denys, I agree with you 100%. The action taken by Kiev Independent is very unprofessional and disgusting. I am unsubscribing from Kiev Independent as a result of seeing how disrespectful their posted justification was.

I subscribe to the Kiev Independent and I have written to them a complaint about their treatment of Caolan Robertson. It is not hard to contact Caolan and register a complaint and demand a correction. To reach for a strike without advising is behaviour not acceptable in Canada. First you give warning, then if it is ignored you can move on to registering an official complaint. It is unacceptable.

I won’t even get into things like possible jealousy and/or xenophobia about a brilliant, hard working, risk taking, good looking young reporter.

Did the editor credit the Independent ? Possibly not: that was the mistake if he/she didn’t. But this is just inexperience or a slip up in a wartime emergency situation. An a minor matter. But in my experience some persons are just self destructive pricks. Now the whole profession is pissed, either/or at the publication and/or the editor. They too don’t seem very experienced. I wonder how the Independent made the map; looked pretty generic to me
