This seems like propaganda. I was in the Navy and if our head had ever looked like the pictures shown someone would be in the brig. That's dereliction of duty. Major repairs were done by the Hull technicians (HT). There's almost nothing on a ship that there isn't a service rating to fix it. Parts are flown in to the aircraft carrier and then by helicopter to the ship requiring the part. Ditto for food. I had a insulator delivered for my radar once by cable, where another ship would come alongside and throw a rope and then the part was brought over by another rope using the first rope. This requires the sailors to get practice steering the ships and boatswains mates to get practice with the ropes and the quartermasters to get practice with parts logistics. To see what was described by you seems impossible, not in my navy. OK, guy jumping over, happened too often. Also, ass-hole jr. officers disappear that way as well. Being a sailor can be very stressing, long hours, hard work, and demanding officers. But the filthy living conditions? No, I don't believe it. Out of food? I don't believe that either. Out of water? Almost all our ships make their own drinking water. Aircraft carrier groups in my day would go underway for two years at a time, that's thirty to 50 ships gone from the home port for years. These panzies are crying over 9 months? I think this report is propaganda BS.

Carriers can be the worst! Think about it. About 4,000 crew with zero duties seeing the sky and sea for the better part of a year. The expectation and experience is 90 days and that can be grueling. The idea that your leader is a draft-dodging coward and self-promoting shock-jock tv entertainer depresses everybody. (yes, I was a naval aviator).

Any military runs on its stomach -- old saying. The job on an aircraft carrier is to maintain and test the aircraft that are being carried, plus maintain the ship (ships are endless maintenance tasks). It's all about logistics. 5,000 people, of whom maybe 2000 are pilots and the rest sailors who work shifts around the clock. Since logistics is maybe the number 1 job, the ignorance and neglect of management is being horribly exposed. Eight months later the system is still not ready for use, but stumbling along with 5,000 of our kids.

My daughter and son both in military, daughter served on the Lincoln,,,, “ son served in Iraq in the Marine Corps Infantry. Were living for 2 months at a deserted railroad station eating rations. Tired of the cry babies.

US has 11 or 12 carriers now. Some being in home port, some on way to new assignment while 2 or 3 are on station at any one time. Congress felt Navy did not need 13 carrier groups and reduced the number. You do realize there are replenishment ships in each carrier group.

There were issues with the plumbing due to design errors. Also it may have been intentional by some sailors.
