Hi Denys, hope you're feeling better in yourself today. We ALL have rough patches. You may feel alone but you aren't! 🕊️❤️🇮🇪
I heard a good quote re doom scrolling: “you give your unpaid time to others”.
I’m 73 years old. I don’t have any social media accounts. I don’t TIK TOK. I find that I’m at my happiest when I do something on my own. I don’t delegate my happiness to doomsday scrolling watching stuff that makes me laugh. If I’m going to laugh it’ll be on my own. Today’s cellphone generations remind me of being plugged into THE MATRIX. And God forbid a person actually look like themselves on social media but instead use facial features improvement apps to look better. So Denys when you take your walks in the countryside you’re creating your pleasure on your terms and in the long run while other doomsday scrollers get depressed when they’re not scrolling, you’ll be more content because you got your fix on your own terms and your own ingenuity
Hey Denys, You seem really overtired . I'm 37 now and the only Social Media I tried was facebook. After 3 years I noticed it makes me unhappier, I deleted my account and never registered on Insta, Snapchat, Twitter/X or what so ever. I understand you have to do some research for your videos, but better try to avoid letting tech algorithms decide too much, what you consume (aka doomscrolling). About yourself: You're doing a fantastic and important job. Keep doing without ruining yourself. In case you make enough money, take a step back if you need it. No money of world could buy you your mental health back. I wish you a good recovery!
Denys, take time-outs and walk through this wonderful coutry you live in right now. Leave your phone at home when you do that.
The analysis is spot on. Been there, done that :/ Relaxing is difficult. But it is absolutely worth learning how to do it as early as possible. Learning and practicing Zazen would be one option. It sounds very conservative, but it really works for me. Hiking is very good, too!
Politics is also stress and dopamine. People like me stream a lot of Politics but only left side Democratic media. I love to listen to you you are funny, and honest. Thank you for being you.
Thanks for sharing. Good balance for this rocky road. Eyes wide open.
Good for you not drinking or smoking weed. I did for many years, but stopped 8 years ago for my health. And after my Son died of Cancer I had a bad car wreck. So glad I did, nobody need that SHIT! Even if they think they do, it's just another addiction. Keep up the good work with a clear head!! A friend who cares
Denys, you’re making enough money, get an office with AC! Oh, and one thing, don’t forget ( like I did) to put around 35% of your income aside, for tax. Look, you’re doing well with your war reporting, I’d say, stick to that and don’t go off topic. Do you need ten minutes English conversation? Talk to me! You might wind up with a Scottish accent but at least it’ll improve your pronunciation bloopers!
Speaking from GREAT experience, weed dulls the senses, helps escape, and does NOT affect everyone. Exercise is how my parents handled everything. They did it daily. Walking AND calisthenics. We had a choice on Sundays as a family. Church or hike? We went hiking so much. Local mountain, fresh air, sunshine, nature. Great habit. They were born 1916 and 1919 and lived thru the Great Depression. I used to go out and dance to the vlues. So sad you open the window and SMOKE comes in. Blech!!! You are a hero!!! So much love. There is only one you. Put the device way. Get outside, even sitting in fresh air, peace and quiet. 💓💓💓🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 And yeah, I stopped smoking a couple months ago. Getting used to it. 🤣🤣😎🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
BLUES! Cannot edit that sentence 😔
Denys - we need you. Someone has to tell us the truth.
Invest in yourself, Denys! It's the only investment that always pays off.
In 1949, EB White saw a television for the first time. He said he thought it would be very important but it would not make people happy. He had been around for the advent of radio. His observation was that people look around themselves and are reasonably content. They hear news from afar and it makes them unutterably sad. The internet is ten times worse than television.
Hey buddy, you look unwell. I found an electrolyte powder online. It has potassium, magnesium and other minerals with no sugar! Stuff your body needs that you don't get from food. Get it and drink it. First night, I slept well and ever since! Start feeling better
Dennis, we all have those days, and we all have faced serious problems that age us. I spent 32 months in Nam in the middle 60s'. It took 20 years after I came home before I could sleep more than two or three hours each night. Your job places you into a bad place, and you are deeply involved. It just takes time to get it out of your system/mind.
Regarding sleep: I have had life-long trouble with sleep (now 69). I relate it to ADHD, and sleep apnea. ADHD in particular craves the dopamine when I should be sleeping. Last night i woke up in the middle of the night and watched your video, LOL.
Regarding doom scrolling: I heard that humans have a short term memory that goes away in about 30 seconds. If you think about it longer or multiple times, then it gets recorded into long term memory. I, too, can't remember much of what I scroll; and I worry that I am training my self to glance and forget.
I very much enjoyed this vlog. U.S. veteran here and this was very much in line with my thinking and observations as well. I’m a Boomer and am pretty much stuck on doom scrolling. Most of what I watch is about Ukraine. To a lesser extent I also try to keep up with politics too, but it’s awfully hard to stomach with the Mango Mussolini effing up everything. I don’t know if this will make sense to you but “bison” is pronounced like “bye son” instead of “bee soon”. That one took me a minute to figure out. We amuse our selves with these videos because tourists ignore the warnings about them being wild animals and do stupid shit. When Spring rolls around each year we joke about the upcoming tourist tossing season videos from people who have no business in the gene pool. Sometimes I am so overwhelmed with videos that I cannot bring myself to watch for a few hours. I feel a responsibility to Ukraine to stay abreast of what’s happening. We signed the Budapest Memorandum and I strongly feel we have an obligation to Ukraine, as do the other signatories. It clearly prohibits anyone from invading Ukraine but does not prohibit Ukraine from aligning itself with any other countries. We have clearly failed our obligations. Anyhow, hang in there, give yourself some time off and keep your perspective clear. Thanks. 😵💫
1000% agree. And watching Darwin Awards videos helps a tad. PS Just saw that part of the video. Clearly that idiot was WAY TOO CLOSE!!!
We have to be very selective about what we include in our lives. See Amber Cornelius below! Good judgement! Discernment! Lifelong learning!
Denys, at your age I experienced something similar. I have a very similar background to you, pilot GA then, SAR in helicopters. I found a way out of doldrums. john@funnell.nz You are doing a valuable job, do not give up.
I think we need to get back to basics. We need family, good food, outdoor exercise in nature, ofc restful sleep and others. I feel like everyone wants their own things when we should focus more on being together and doing more together. Families should live with each other and if not, then visit often. I feel separation is dividing everyone in the world. We need eachother. One planet, one love. Praying for peace for all
Hi Denys, you bear a heavy cross for the rest of us. Smart people all over the world appreciate you. Take care of yourself first, we will understand.
Hi don
Denis, be kinder to yourself. You are doing a brilliant job reporting on Ukraine and keeping the world informed in a truthful and believable way. If you can, take your balance from nature. More walks. Get friends to go with you. Consider those many thousands of your followers who believe in you and in the justice of Ukraine's amazing resistance to the Russian Bear. We need you. You need R&R so get it. An 81 yo Brit says so. 🥰
Only 66 here. 1000% agree
... are going with AI. Soon (maybe already) every child will have to learn to suspect everything in print all images, all phone calls, everything, so as to have a chance of getting to adulthood without being scammed, blackmailed, groomed, swindled, shamed seduced ... and with very little contact with the dwindling natural world. A cosmic pity to those of us who can still remember what we think of as "normal" life, with playing, physical activities, wondering discovering making progress with learning.
I agree with much that you say: we live in a shrunken world where trust, curiosity and love - qualities that used to keep people on an even keel - have become rare. One shouldn't follow the darkest hints that are around us now, but frankly I fear the way things are gi
Well done fighting.
