I just know that creepypasta monster band was rocking out to Alice Human Sacrifice. That was my jam back when Jeff the Killer was popular.
Jenny please please please return to the Mystery Lodge video. Im dying for anyone to talk about it.
I would DEFINITELY watch a 5 hour beanie baby video
I know I'm like 2 years late. But I DID watch the beanie baby documentary and I was so obsessed with it for weeks that I kept telling everyone in my life about it constantly. And that's a zero percent deterrent to me really wanting a beanie babies video from you.
Late to the party, but dftba seems like a reliable merch shop, and they're owned by Hank and John Green! I've bought a few items from YouTubers on there and they were great quality. There's also some more unique merch options like pins and plushes they host as well. I'm not sure how it is they accept new creators but it definitely could be something to look into!
catching up on old posts and I was so pleased to hear you bring up that show in the Lincoln Presidential Museum -- I was in Springfield this July for a work trip and I went there, having never heard of it and not expecting anything at all. I was so blown away by both the show and the environments & staging in the museum (it's like a walkthrough experience with animatronics and scenes that supplement the artifacts) that I said out loud to my partner multiple times "Damn, Jenny Nicholson needs to make a video about this" lol
This point about Ken Bretschneider being in love with the dream of *building* a park makes me think about that moment in the Evermore video where he leaves his SUV in plain sight all day. I wonder if he didn't leave it there because he *wanted* to be seen there doing his big business, even when it broke the immersion that the park was theoretically there for.
Idk if you read old patreon post comments but your videos are unrivaled in quality, humor, and rewatchable-ness (rewatachability?) by anyone else on YT. Those idiots who complain about how long it is between videos are dumb. I only recently became a patron but I've been watching you since your bronycon video and you've been my favorite ever since. Those people may say you aren't grateful for your subscribers or whatever but you make such amazing videos and then you make these amazing ones for patrons too. Anyway um a once upon a time video would be absolutely incredible, I gasped out loud when you mentioned that lol
I’d be super interested in beanie babies, Barbie, Once Upon A Time, Polly pocket, Tennessee, and swan princess videos
so sad to have to miss out on the mansion book! can't have nice things on the internet
I've seen the Pepper's Ghost performance at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. It's really impressive! The first time I saw it, I was really mystified by how it worked. Springfield isn't much in the way of anything unless you're doing like a Route 66 drive, but if you every happen to end up there, the museum is super worth seeing! Former Disney Imagineers helped design it, so it's really engaging and has a lot of really fun rooms and gimmicks. It's worth like a full day (though of course there's no shortage of Lincoln stuff in the town)
Just found this video with you mentioning Beanie Babies, the day after finding 3 bags full of them at work.
Referencing your Trapped in a Island video has brought my family together. My fiancée (her name is Kaitlynne, I swear to god) loves Josh Hutcherson so the video is a favourite of hers, and she's in her early thirties. And now he's having a kickstart in his career, so her highschool age sister now loves him just as much and has found your video, and now it's a family meme and reference across generation. So the FNAF video on the eventual horizon feels like it's for us lol
You can still buy both of the Jeff the Killer books on Amazon. I just did :)
The pokemon cards/beanie babies thing could actually be recycled into part of an economic bubbles video. Just saying
Kissing Booth series would be such a good video, they are so problematic, especially the first one! Another good set of Netflix movies is Tall Girl, not as problematic as the Kissing Booth, but it is very funny how Tall Girl 2 responded in very superficially to criticisms of the first movie!
Hearing Jenny’s thought process I think she should hire an editor if only to remind her to keep on a schedule and tell her what parts to keep in video. And maybe if Jenny just cant part with certain details maybe make a director’s cut for patrons and a streamline version for main channel. I dont expect a vid a month, especially if she drops her short formats, but maybe can get like a couple per year. Oh so that’s where my knott’s video went. How sad.
A Polly Pocket video would be everything to me *-* the more self-indulgent the better
if you decide to make merch i would really LOVE an impervious to damage crash bandicoot shirt!
I would just like to say, I would love to watch a video of beanie babies or polly pocket. Sounds so fun!
New Patron here. Whether you read this or not… just want this energy in the universe. Your content is brilliant. Quality over quantity on main channel makes total sense, with monthly vids on Patreon so you can make a living doing what you love. I gladly will pay for your work. It’s why I’m here. Do whatever you need to do to not burnout. I hope you can keep doing this for a long time.
Would 100% watch the most in depth beanie baby video that you could possibly create
I'm late but that Tennessee video sounds so cool. I love the touristy parts of Pigeonforge and Gatlinburg. Your take on it would be very interesting.
YOU MET JARJAR?!
So I know this is an old video but I'm a new patron lol. But the fact that the lightsabers you build at Disney aren't rechargeable?? What?? I bought a generic, unbranded one online for $80 and it's rechargeable, the fact you're paying $200+ for a battery powered saber is unforgivable to me lol
A Polly Pockets video would, without a doubt, instantly become my favourite from your video roster. I had Polly Pockets as a kid and loved them so so so much. As an adult, I miss them dearly. I think about them a few times a year, wondering what my parents did with them and where in this wide world they’ve ended up. I search online every once in a while for listings of the ones I had as a kid. I would love to listen to any length video you create sharing your knowledge and research and thoughts and anecdotes on this wonderful toy 💜💜💜
Okay, but like please do all of those things. I don't care how many other youtubes cover a topic. I want to watch your video on it. I love all the content you put out and wish there was more. Hence why I joined the pateron. The only one I get is the creepypasta follow up, you're right, we can't have nice things. And with the shows that you watch intermittently you could just film after watching one season or whatever, then re watch what you filmed and add to it instead of re watching the whole series from the start. Then add a section at the end tieing it all together if you want. I don't care if your room looks totally different or if "you've aged!" I could literally listed to you talk about random stuff all day. Wait, I already do that! You make good content!!!!
I saw Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark as a kid! I saw it on December 21, 2012, the day the world was predicted to end. I remember there was a line in the show where peter and mj are together on a roof or something and one of them had to say "the world could be ending out there..." and the actor couldn't make it through the line without laughing
I would love to watch beanie babies video
Heyyy Jenny I’ve got a shop question for u!! Super basic, but I’m curious as to how you got the footage from the Dear Evan Hansen Movie to use in your video. I’ve been attempting to make a similar video on a different series of movies, but have been unable to get or capture any actual clips from the text itself. Any recommendations?
I think that things like the Dear Evan Hansen video's success are evidence that people largely enjoy you being thoughtful overall and care less about the actual topic. I think you might be overthinking what would or wouldn't work versus trusting that people enjoy hearing you discuss something generally.
I, as a 30 year old man with absolutely zero interest in the show, watched a 2 and a half hour video on the Vampire Diaries. I just wanna hear Jenny talk about things she's passionate about. That's all it takes.
That comment about native Americans being more than crafts and dancing was such a gut punch
As a girl from The South, I would love to see a video about all weird kitschy Tennessee tourist stuff around Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Also Dollywood. It gets no love from the theme park video people!
NOT THE MYSTERY LODGE :( rest in peace
I appreciate the insight into why the main channel is sparse nowadays. Unasked-for business advice: when you've built your YouTube channel on medium-effort Ramble-like videos, it's fine to switch to high-effort videos, but you don't need to be embarrassed about or afraid of the algorithm's effect on your medium-effort videos! That's how subscribers became subscribers in the first place, because they like the way your mind works and want to see more. The correlation between creator effort invested and viewer enjoyment is not 1:1. Bottom line: you're an interesting conversationalist. Anyway, now I can enjoy watching Patreon posts without uneasily wondering why similar content is seldom posted to the main channel, so thanks for explaining that.
What about the DFTBA shop? Like with the Green Bros
All of these ideas are incredible but oh my god, the Mystery Lodge videooooo aaaa I'd love to see it
I just checked and the Jeff the killer paperback is back up on Amazon, holy shit
dftba (hank greens merch company) is very good to order from and works with many creators
I would personally compete in Scream queens season 2 if we got a spider-man turn off the dark video from u (or whatever else u decide to make obv. But omfg)
Release the Synder Cut Jenny!
As you were describing the mysterious, inscrutable, and now defunct “pepper’s ghost” ride, I was thinking how much it sounded like the show at the Lincoln library/ museum in Springfield. So, it’s interesting that similar (same?) tech was used. If you’re ever in that part of the country sampling our vast array of Mold-A-Rama machines it’s definitely worth a stop at the Lincoln library. It’s quite an experience!
You should write the Beanie Baby video into a book.
We use printify for our merch shop, and its been super super effective and has been able to support hundreds of orders in a day, it's drop shipping and has a ton of super high quality options! If you want recs for specific products, let me know and I can tell you what our favorites are that we tested!
Long time watcher, first time caller here :) The beanie baby thing was amazing to watch go down as a high end retailer at the time. I worked at a store that sold Boyd bears, precious moments, D56, and beanie babies during the collector craze. Watching the bubble and bust of the collection phase in real time was surreal!!!
I found scream queens to rewatch and OMG the racism is heavy from episode 3! It’s worse than I remembered!
Oh my god I have been trying to figure out for YEARS what show I saw at knotts in like 2000 and no one ever knew what I was talking about but now I know it was the mystery lodge!!
I just officially joined your patreon, but I have been a fan for years. I cycle through re-watching your huuuge library of stuff as often as I can get away with it. Your sense of humor, your editing, your talent at pulling everything together within a topic in a way that flows REALLY well -- all of it is so impressive and so lovely to watch. I usually have your videos on in the background while I work & it does so much to help me focus. I just wanted to say thank you for all of the time & effort you put into every video you make; it all really shows.
I, for one, would love a Polly Pocket video
i second this
Couple of people I watch use 'IRL merch' if you are still looking at getting a new shop
What happened to the Percy Jackson video thats referenced in older rambles?
the percy jackson video is itself a ramble, look for buffy/percy jackson
please please jenny fnaf movie video also i think if you did a fnaf josh hutcherson fanfic video it would be a fun semi-sequel to trapped in a island
I second this, i referenced Josh hutcherson trapped in a island while watching the fnaf movie with friends and no one laughed so this would feel like justice to me personally
i just wanted to say that you have a huge knack for making absolutely *anything* fascinating, and the little tidbit you said about jake(?logan?both?)paul and pokemon cards made me so hungry for more!! idgaf about the beanie babies documentary or drama series at all. but whatever video you decide to make about it will be a constant rewatch!
Idk why but I think a very wide video about Jenny’s ideas about collectables and the fan fare around them would be so fun. Like just a general history of the collector crazes of the past would be such a great hours long video. Even better a series of videos about the wildest fan craze collectables from history.
I was trying to see if there were any existing copies of Welcome to the Mansion available anywhere, and at some point it went back on sale on Amazon. I don't know if it's the author who put it up or someone else. Either way, it's returned.
Somehow, Slendermansion returned.
Obligatory "nick diramio stole your idea!" joke.
Ooh I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed, lol. I was like wait… Scream Queens? That sounds familiar…. I’m sure he didn’t actually steal the idea but I know Jenny watches his channel and I assume he watches hers so I was like hmmmmmm *side-eyes Nick*
Excellent update to the video on YouTube! I just recently watched it (a couple of times) and thought wow, this is so neat, and it's been a couple of years since this, I wonder what it's like now... Also so cool that they gave you those cards and coins and stuff, that's really awesome! I think you single handedly did more for the park then most current Influencers (post covid), so it's cool you had some recognition there, and got to go in the tavern. That's crazy the restaurant closed down, and I agree the meet and greet should have been in there. Such a good video to the first and I'm so happy I decided to check out your Patrion and found this gem! Ugh I put my comment under the wrong video, pretend that this comment is under the Evermore video.
you should definitely do beanie babies now that they're doing the new line and collectors are getting interested in them again!! beanie babies is also one of my special interests and i am full of beanie baby facts despite not owning very many
I’m rooting for a dogs purpose 🙏🏻
You should use DFTBA for merch! John and Hank Green would definitely not scam you lmao
Once Upon a Time was so chaotic. My sister and I spent three years after watching that show quoting Belle's "My chipped cup" line because it was so absurd. Great trash TV, hope that video leaves the graveyard someday
I will say that given how unsure you were about concepts that were already done, Laura Crone has done a swan princess video essay and The channel Whipjack just started a OUAT series. I'd still love to see your take on those concepts and I'm sure the well hasn't been completely rung dry but given how many graveyard entries were because the idea had already been done, it might be worth knowing so if that is an issue you don't put effort into a concept you'd want to stop later because it's been done.
The Frozen story arc of OUAT was my breaking point. It was ok, but when Ursula, Maleficent, and Cruella just randomly rolled into town in the next arc I just couldn't handle another lap with the formula again. I would really dig official merch!
Jenny I love you so much, please look into the American Treasure Tour Museum. It is chalk full of old animatronics and strange memorabilia
TN!plz Jenny, if you read these, try not to get down, you make it look easy and that's a good thing. Also beetleborgs! But just a breakdown of the intro haha jk happy Halloween 👻🎃 🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️
DROP A BEANIE BABY VIDEO! Please! I want to know what happened with the trend and after. It was my childhood!
Once upon a time had such a nice aesthetic but I'm also convinced the writers copy-pasted every season's script for the next season, just added a new villain and switched out the side characters
I think if you have stuff that ties in with a main video but didn't work in the big picture, that's good material for a second channel/additional short vids on main/patreon exclusives, so people who really want a full deep dive can have the cutting room floor content that was interesting but maybe felt off-theme or distracted from a bigger main point. I have seen writers talk about cutting stuff from their work that was good but just didn't feel like it totally fit (like the Paul brother/Pokemon card digression) and just putting it into a new document - that way their work isn't lost but they still keep it in case it's usable elsewhere. I'm always excited for whatever you put out because I know you've put hard work into it and you've done something that actually interested you instead of specifically chasing a trend. the passion about a topic shines through and makes your videos so great!
Some ideas in response to this ramble. 1. You could possibly move forward with the beanie baby video and instead on cutting parts, move them into a new script-dump. Might make it easier to let go of those parts of the scripts compared to outright deleting them. 2. I would love to see an additional poll maybe on a quarterly basis where you list graveyard ideas and members vote, so that you can gathet metrics on which are worthwhile for the future. You dont need to make promises to make those vids, just have the poll to get feedback from viewers.
Oh wow, you beanie baby section unlocked a huge memory for me, of a family friend having a little business selling non-licensed beanie stuff. I specifically remember us having just a bulk box of tag protectors and cases i would play with more than the beanies themselves.
15:00 is - Noononononono! Jenny! It's MORE than okay to write in the Book! TSK the naysayers! REMEMBER! /How did Harry Potter Pass Potions Class???/ Comment in it! write your thoughts down! highlight passages! When you do this to any book / textbook you're increasing the book's intellectual value! I always buy used books and textbooks and always look for the ones that have personality in them!
I literally pumped my fist in the air when you said you might do an OUAT video. Would love that!!!! I binged all the seasons in a row like two years ago and it was a vibe ngl
Go with DFTBA for your merch, they're extremely reliable and care a lot about treating the creators who work with them well.
not to pressure you but pleeeaaaasssseeee do a once upon a time video
Please do Once Upon a TIme, it was such a fever dream of a show and it had so much squandered potential!
That said I'm really not ON THE INSIDE or whatever so I guess I said this for no reason lol
I know a lot of the people that work with DFTBA Merch report it being good
god i want the beanie babies video so bad. the "tangent" about logan paul and pokemon cards grabbed my brain like no other yes yes i want to know more about collector culture and artificial value. Please beanie babies pelase
begging for the scream queens video
For merch you could talk to Super EyePatch Wolf who got really really into making his merch line and making sure everyone got paid properly. On the fans ruining good things by harassing creators, I feel like you could still post those fanfic style videos yo patreon if you wanted. The people paying for the subscription feel way less likely to be harassing people and more likely to respect your wishes
Your rambles are a so good, it does feel different than your main channel content but absolutely not in a bad way. I've been saving this video specifically as a reward for myself after doing stuff I didn't wanna do, and it felt incredibly rewarding. You're very entertaining, thank you for all the work that goes into your YouTube/Patreon
I think the ramble videos show that people love the lower effort videos, as well as the long form carefully-crafted ones. It's just a shame the algorithm raises the stakes of releasing lower effort videos in case they don't perform as well. You might find that there's a way to do it for Youtube if they're done as an explicit series, especially if it's only once every month or two. You could essentially do a ramble video but on a topic that you want to talk about.
i haven’t personally purchased anything but Quentin Reviews has good things to say about Pixel Empire. i’m pretty sure, based on what he’s said, it’s not print on demand.
I work as a contract illustrator for Creator Ink, a merch shop. They are a legit option! They mostly do merch for YouTube animators however, so might not be the exact right fit unless your merch ideas are illustrated.
I can't speak to it from a creator standpoint but ik Keith Ballard recently did merch through Fourthwall and it came out really nice. The material and print quality of the shirt I got was surprisingly high - much better than the standard print-on-demand stuff
you should do the dog's purpose one, those movies are so weird
it’s actually such a funny coincidence the very day you upload a video in which you say you’d like to make a video about once upon a time, haley whipjack uploads the first part of their full recap of the show (i still think you should do the video)
The part one of the Star wars land video is one of the YouTube videos I've revisited a lot. It is so quality. I have always hoped for the second part, but I'm glad it was mentioned in this video!
i am proud to announce that my copy of the creepypasta fanfic book just arrived!! for a moment i was deterred when you said it was unavailable now, but you lied!! your summary of it was so delightful im so excited to read it
Not me sitting here totally down for a semester of beanie baby class by professor Jenny. Unironically looking forward to the part about Logan Paul/Pokémon chapter cuz that also happens to cover another interest of mine.
MYSTERY LODGE MYSTERY LODGE!!!
PLEASE look into Strange Magic I think I watched like one video about it once but nothing in depth, or do Beanie Babies, I didn’t see any marketing about that documentary so I would say it’s safe to pursue. However I have seen many multi hr videos on “After” the book and movies, bc I like long form content so I’ve watched a couple of those.
omg. i have seen the scream queens reality show like 10 times, i rewatch the first season like every year. i actually thought i was gonna die when you mentioned it!
for the merch shop, one of my favorite youtube channels has been using DFTBA for a while and it seems to be going well for them
Honestly if you can actually piece together the OUAT lore properly I think it would be very entertaining
I think you forgot to add that one to the master list. :)
Ty Warner went to my college, which is pretty small so doesn’t have a lot of famous alumni, the funny thing is no one talks about it. I mean c’mon, not even one beanie baby statue?
girl i love ouat video idea , my i add if you wanted to do a vampire show again , my favorite true blood has SOME SILLY IN IT you only have to skip all the porn that it has
would LOVE to see a OUAT video!!! I was playing with the idea of making one myself (have only made one youtube video ever but did go through seasons 1 and 2 and take extensive notes) but i doubt it'd ever come to fruition. loved that series when it was coming out and so many opinions. also never saw the final time skip season and still curious about it
"All the kitsch in Tennessee"
Do you think you’d be able to read from the Jeff the killer fanfic sequel for a ramble video? It sounds so fun!! I wish I’d had a chance to read the book myself :,)
am i the only one surprised that jenny doesnt have a team working with her? someone to help her with merch and editing and stuff? theres people with a lot less subs and a lot less involved content that utilize a team. Jenny, are you doing everything yourself?
Every time I see the beanie babies on your door, I remember that you are working on your beanie babies video and get excited. Now hearing you talk about it, I am somehow more excited. #releasethebeaniebabiesdirectorscut
I'm not a big buyer of YouTube/Content Creator merch, but I have had some good experiences when I do: Bonfire (www.bonfire.com) is one. I bought some merch from Crimes Pays But Botany Doesn't (bioactivism). The merch is high quality. I have two shirts and they have survived the harsh sun/wind on beach and trails for two years. The designs have held up beautifully after probably a hundred washes. Plus, you can stagger merch by season and do something positive with the money instead of wholesale. I promise this isn't a promo or anything...see 30:00.
the creepypasta sequel book sounds so damn good im so sad we won't hear your commentary on it. i'd buy it myself if it were available </3 edit: nvm it looks like it's still on amazon!! i'm gonna
I can’t believe there’s already a Mike’s Mic Scream Queens video out lmao (just about the pilot but still, the timing is crazy)
Different show! There was a reality competition shows called Scream Queens that had girls auditioning to be in a movie and it was bonkers.
Whatever happened to Fantastic Beasts 3!!!!
Oh my god yes! Scream queens! I think about that series so much! It’s nice to not feel like I dreamed it!
For merch you could try contacting Linus Tech Tips as they have started a pretty big merch setup and have talked about possibly working with other YouTuber. A different side of YouTube but not gonna be a scam
Considering the drama LTT was just in and how terrible his fans are to women I'd say that's probably a pretty bad idea.
<3 your channel!
Oooh merch yes yes!
Jenny this is kind of random but you used to have roblox videos and I thought they were fun to watch but I cannot find them anymore. Am I stupid?
You might be thinking of the streams she did on Twitch with her sister a few years back when they both were recovering from covid? I know they did like a Roblox Harry Potter ride and probably a few other worlds I can't remember atm lol. Not sure if the vods are up anywhere but maybe that'll at least help narrow down the search
Oh please oh please oh dear god please do the Once Upon A Time video some day. I watched the first one and a half seasons and got bored, then watched bits of the later seasons on YouTube and it was one of the most insane watching experiences you could ever have.
Also their insistence that a biological parent is a superior and truer parent than an adoptive parent deserves to be destroyed.
Not a YouTuber but can relate to some of what you're feeling and the anxieties/pressures must be hard and unique. Thanks for sharing and please take your time and put your health first! The vast majority of your audience would understand and agree. I don't think those dumb comments are actually representative of the perception people have at all, but it really sucks that you get them and can see why they have an impact.
I would KILL: for the scream queens video omg. I was OBSESSED with that reality show
As a fellow artist, I understand burnout. I love your videos I gush to my friends about your channel all the time. Do take your time with your work, I love rewatching your videos. The evermore video (and more) i watch nightly. So thank you and take your time. Much love!
I get all my creator merch from DFTBA
as someone who ritually consumes the entire SAW franchise exclusively via wikepedia entries once every 2-3 years or so, i would LOVE to watch your take on the series
omg i also have never seen a single SAW movie but I have read every wikipedia entry for them
oh god my friends and i in college would watch OUAT as it aired, and the first 2 seasons are maybe actually quality and then it grew into hate watching and then queer baiting and then couldn't even watch the last season
These all sound so fun, but as a Saw Freak, I would absolutely love to hear your Saw Opinions. And whether or not you think that Saw X is as genuinely good as myself and a ton of other people think!
omg the swan princess movies would be AMAZING. my friend and i talk about them all the time lol and i love how they start out as funny money grab knockoffs and then suddenly jump to ABSOLUTE INSANITY once they get to 3d lmao also weird religious stuff involved?? 10/10 topic haha
I was thinking about the Jeff the Killer fanfic vid the other day 😭 i love that video so much its a comfort video. Sad we wont see the sequel vid, but i understand
Honestly I would watch all of these. But specifically any of the ones you're passionate about bc i love learning in depth ab stuff I've never heard of from you :) BUT if they are all doomed to the graveyard that's fine, do what is best for you queen
I’ve bought several Team Four Star shirts from Sharkrobot and they’ve all been great quality in my experiences
I hope you do eventually make a Polly Pocket vid and I really REALLY hope you make a Swan Princess vid! I would also love a Once Upon A Time vid but I completely understand why it's hard to slog through that show hahaha Also: try not to worry about posting frequency or about topic timeliness or algorithm shenanigans. Your videos are so excellent!!!
oh hell yeah we have so much weird stuff in tennessee especially in like pigeon forge and apparently there's a wizard of oz themepark over in north carolina.
I thought DFTBA may be the obvious answer and scrolling through the comments looks like basically everyone else already thought the same lol. I know you've said you've tried before, but definitely suggest reaching out to them/Hank again, they're guaranteed going to want to work with you!
I would loovee to see the beanie babies and tennessee travel videos!!
Petition to have Jenny read the Insanity sequel for the next ramble! It’s not like we’re gonna harass the author, after all.
Your Jeff the Killer fanfic video is my Roman Empire. Please do the sequel
Only merch I can think of DFTBA. I’m pretty sure Lindsay Ellis uses them. It’s one of the John and Hank Green companies and is pretty well regarded
+
re: Polly Pocket I'd love an explainer about why they went from being actually pocket-sized in their perfect little clamshell containers to in the late 90s suddenly being like... big. When her whole thing is she's very small.
Wasn't it something something kids choking on tiny swallowable toys?
The spiral of content creation dilemmas sounds rough.
"Galaxy of Fear is too specific within one fandom" says the woman with the 3.5 hour Evermore video
I am HEARTBROKEN that we won't get a Strange Magic video. Fingers crossed for a Ramble?
Oh my god I love the term “harvesting clips” !! Also you’re so right about focusing on food as a teen writer lmao
This was fun but also unsettlingly relatable. I should really gather up my own idea graveyard at work and ask myself what I'm actually going to get to. I can only imagine how much bigger the graveyard would be if I was self-employed.
Would you ever consider doing a more low-effort version of some of these ideas for Patreon? For instance I think it would be safe to do the Jeff The Killer sequel as a Patron-only video without inciting harassment towards the author.
Yes please to a polly pocket video! And my little sister talks at me at length about OUAT, if you could help me make sense of it that'd be cool 😅
seconding OUAT—that show went truly off the rails
even if the beanie babies movie was the highest-grossing movie of all time and won all the academy awards, i'd still want to see your beanie babies video
Oh I'm super sad the Mystery Lodge video can't work out even though I completely understand all your reasoning. I have only been to Knott's once (twice after I go to Scary Farm tonight!) and it was after they'd already abandoned that attraction. My husband spoke fondly about it as he'd been as a kid, so he really wanted me to see it. Hopefully one day both someone close to the topic will speak on it AND someone will uncover more footage of it? I can hope. I also think you buried the lede with the Saw reality show - one of the super creepy hosts was Guardians of the Galaxy's own James Gunn. He's absolutely disgusting in that show from the clips I've seen.
OH ALSO-semi related to beanie baby lore-you should check out pez lore, thats where my heart is. Theres a doc (its half acted out like a fictional movie its great), the pez outlaw, its a great story.
As a horror movie nerd i would love your ranking of the saw movies (or any other horror movies). Also i never heard of scream queens (i thought you were talking about the ryan murphy show at first) and i am so intrigued. Now im going to go find what corner of the internet i have to go to watch that !!
Oh its on youtube thats way more convenient than i thought it would be
For the shops question: I've ordered a fair amount of merch from the McElroy Merch shop, which is run by DFTBA, and I've always been impressed with the quality. https://store.dftba.com/pages/creators
I would LOVE a self-indulgent Polly Pocket introspective. Especially if the Lena Dunham Polly Pocket movie ends up happening. I would like YOUR PP video to come out first and help the trajectory of the LD movie. Or even possibly just replace it entirely. It will fill the Polly Pocket void and maybe they’ll scrap the movie idea. Lol
Li Speaks has a video on Polly pocket! Another video essayist covering mostly early 2000's girl media
the anecdote about disney giving your friend a stereotypical 'asian name' is like disney's version of cho chang
I'd love to see a Jenny Nicholson x Theory Wear collab for merch - Theory Wear is MatPat/Game Theory's merch brand and their whole aim is not to make shitty YouTuber merch. They have a good track record too.
I was waiting for the Scream Queens drop the entire video. So relieved this isn't on the "definitely never" list.
as an OUAT fandom veteran the family tree issues made shipping wars crazy
Truthfully, the best thing about Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark is the reunion of Reeve Carney and Patrick Page in Hadestown years later on, though I do feel a lil sad you didn't make a video on it, I love hearing about it
I remember you tweeting about a OUAT video a few years back 😭 happy to see she made the maybe video list 💕
I love/want this hat!
I thought I was the only person who knew about the OTHER Scream Queens show, the one that didn’t have Emma Roberts or Jamie Lee Curtis in it. As a horror-obsessed tween, I rewatched the first season multiple times on YouTube because the concept was soo fascinating to me. I could never get through the second season, though.
there are FIVE After movies and all of them are bad and not funny bad (except for maybe the 2nd one which has dylan sprouse )
tbh i would def watch a beanie baby video, even if its really long. also I used to love swan princess as a kid, so hearing that really brought me back
I would absolutely love that fictional star wars theme park tshirt lol
I would be so keen for the Troll sequel.
The Once Upon A Time burnout is so true. My husband and I have watched the first 3 seasons and the Evil Queen is redeemed and unredeemed multiple times per season.
I get so sick of Mr Gold lol. I love Rumpelstiltskin in the fairytale setting but Mr Gold is so spineless and unlikable and they give him way too many chances. He just screws everyone over, 1 of the 2 characters he cares about yells at him, he cries about it, and repeat
"YO! A BEENIE BB!!"
This was a super interesting look at behind-the-scenes for your video-making process! I have definitely wondered before how many ideas that you have and start your research for, only to hit a dead end at some point during research and then have to think of a new idea to explore and start over from the beginning. So this was really cool to see! Also I’m sorry that you get all those ‘have you quit making videos’ comments- as an illustrator it always hurts when I’m, like, between pieces and maybe my current piece isn’t going well or I’ve had to start and scrap a few pieces for whatever reasons, and someone will ask me ‘are you still doing that art stuff?’ and it’s so painful. I think a lot of people just take the arts for granted and assume that just because one person can crank out a drawing every day or a video every week then that means everyone can and should- regardless of, like, allll the other factors that go into creating stuff. Anyways, I’m glad to hear that the star cruiser video is going well and that the end is in sight! Hooray! Oh and also you mentioning polly pocket brought back memories of that, like, polly pocket website from the early 2000s with a bunch of games. Which then reminded me of the diva starz webisode games and sent me down a rabbit hole lol
Is the video on the Avatar Cirque du Soleil show still in process? I’m so curious about your thoughts lol ! Also, when I think about the quality vs posting-speed of your videos, I definitely liken it to the workload of creating a whole documentary about a topic, and professional documentarians can take years when working with a whole team. The way I see it, as a creative and documentarian, you’re super productive and reliable!
I watched the Beanie Babies movie and I would also still happily watch a way too long uncut Beanie Babies/Ty Warner ramble
I would watch a series of videos that is just one season of Once Upon A Time at a time. It’s true all the seasons at once is too much
Omg if Jenny wants to talk about scary movies, it would be incredible to hear her on the Too Scary Didn’t Watch podcast! She’s such a good storyteller, she’d do an amazing job!
I can’t believe the plot of Welcome to the Mansion is just Halloweentown High 😄
We as a country need the beanie baby video. If that snippet is anything to go by, don’t leave anything out
YES to the scream queens video! such an interesting concept for a reality show
The Jeff the killer sequel video getting ruined is so sad. It seems like you still love the idea, maybe it could be done as a patreon vid one day so its reach is restrained and it's semi-private so not just blasting the author? But I see why it would just be a non-starter after how things went
I was kinda thinking that too. (Maybe a little selfishly) I kinda want it to still exist as a Patreon exclusive. But I do think limiting the audience for the video would make it a little safer in terms of spotlighting the author again & drawing in a bunch of negative attention to them from randos
I thought you meant the Star cruiser video was cancelled when you talked about Star Wars land pt 2 and I'm so serious I would have cried
Genuinely scandalized that you had people asking you if you even make youtube videos. Why would anyone say that in person or in an online comment. I wonder if part of the reason for this is that your presentation in the videos comes off as effortless, and most youtube videos either have 1000x as much artifice or are just uninteresting rambles. So in a way maybe it is a strangely positive thing that they seem way easier to produce than they are.
Ghost in the Library in Springfield Illinois! I know exactly what you’re talking about; that was my childhood!
Omg Scream Queens! What a weird moment…and an odd James Gunn origin…
I didn't participate in serious Beanie Baby collecting as a kid (other than having a few that I played with like other toys) but for some reason I really liked reading The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beanie Babies, which came out during or around the end of that zeitgeist. ... it had, like, recommendations for Beanie Baby gift baskets you could make, and came with a coupon you could mail somewhere to get a free Beanie Baby sleeping bag...? (Lol??). Anyway, that anecdote is just to say I would enjoy just a "Jenny reads and reviews her vintage Beanie Baby collector magazines" video if you didn't want to cover the whole topic! Thanks for another fun patreon video :D
I bought a merch shirt through Fourthwall and it went very smoothly, the shirt is very comfy also.
Slenderman definitely falls into the subgenre of guys who GET YOU. As in like "LOOK YOU HES GONNA GET YOU!". Jason Vorhees or Michaels Myers will do a stab. Leatherface might kill and eat you (hopefully in that order). The Wishmaster or Freddy will kill you in a creatively ironic way. Slenderman just GETS YOU.
That's always been one of the main reasons I like Slenderman so much. I feel like he really gets me.
The bad book readings were my favorite part of the channel :( can you just do it for Patreon because we are trustworthy and also a smaller audience? Those bad book readings have pulled me out of my worst depressive states and I have shared them with all my family, was hoping to retell them to our children
Also who could forget TROLL?!
honestly having the starcruiser video done this November is way earlier than I expected it, you are making great progress! Anyone expecting videos within months of each other is absolutely insane
I wish I had a cute green apple outfit like that! Patreon turned me into a purple blob instead... I used to be a fox, dammit! A fox!
I knew you were going to say Scream Queens! Please keep that on the possible list!
merch rec? kind of? : Have you looked into any screen printing localish businesses? then you could have your own store site, and hook that up with whichever screen printing business it is? In my experience they usually have digital sewing machines to create embroider patches and stuff as well. It would be more expensive than the mass factory ones, but imo that is usually better to me. I've never gotten youtuber merch but I have gotten a lot of local tattoo/artists clothing that do it that way. Then you could collab with independent artists for designs! Work your way into niche clothing instagram
wait is this how teddy fresh started?? I know nothing about h3 outside of frienemies
I found this really interesting, especially reasons for not finishing videos that we'd already heard about. It's great to get an insight on those and also just the creative process generally! Because of course you have to start more things than you finish! We appreciate all your hard work :)
Scream Queens on VH1 is literally my favorites reality series of all time. I've watched season one at least 4 times. I should watch it again!
It's SO compelling and horrible.
I found somebody giving a reasonable explanation for how the cane thing in Mystery Lodge works
beanie baby video: I think people would enjoy just a chaotically organized info dump as a patreon video or something. or pull a defunctland and make it a multi-episode documentary style thing? Personally idc how boring the info is, I'll likely forget it all in a few months anyway
If you are interested in "After," you should definitely go check out Mils Tequila's videos on it! She is awesome!
i’m obsessed with the slenderman father figure
also as someone who watched the other FOUR after movies they end up getting more boring
I just watched the first Saw movie a few weeks ago and I've been making my way through them all to go see Saw X in theaters! They're a lot of fun with their twists and weird convoluted explanations haha -- I'd love a tier list video!!
As far as merch hosting, I’ve heard great things about Crowdmade from Overly Sarcastic Productions! Maybe ask them about that?
A few of my college classmates were actors in the Abraham Lincoln Library show! It's a really fabulous museum, and the show is good spooky fun
Cotton Bureau is really good for merch.
Omg do I own disc
Could you partner with DFTBA? What I’ve bought from them has always been very high quality and they partner with a lot of creators, even outside YouTube.
I was thinking about dftba as well
Did Slenderman also take the potion and show up as a teacher at Creepypasta High? If not, totally missed opportunity.
This whole time I thought the Mystery Lodge was a murder mystery themed hotel
OMG I'm so sad the internet ruined the Creepypasta Mansion sequel! I second the Patreon-only video idea! I just rewatched the first video pretty recently and was like... I wonder what happened in the mansion? I guess I'll never know. But I COULD HAVE KNOWN! Also I was just realizing the other day that I don't ever watch horror and I only very rarely read horror, and yet I already support two horror-commentary-dedicated Patreons, and I really like it when you do horror-related stuff too. I don't enjoy horror but I enjoy other people enjoying horror.
Also in general I really loved your funny observations videos and would love to see more if you ever feel like it. Not because I don't love the more cohesive ones too - they're awesome! - but the funny observations videos are fun in a different way.
I would have loved to see The Mansion book because I was friends with the person who wrote the original Sally creepypasta at the time it came out, so it woulda been wild to see a fic like this where she was one of the characters lol, but I get that it'd be super unfair to the creator
WELCOME TO THE MANSION MENTIONED I USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THIS
just got to the explanation…..oouu…… poor nisha :(
If Jenny releases a halcyon preview at part 4 it will exactly mirror how Star Wars itself was released to the public
for what it's worth welcome to the mansion as a patreon video would be great
I’d love to see a slenderman mansion mockumentary in a similar style to what we do in the shadows
Would you ever talk about the Creepypasta Mansion book to Patrons, or does it just generally feel uncomfortable to criticize?
Yes please do a SAW series video! I would love that so much
I’ve only seen the first 3 After movies but the only one worth commenting on was 2 which was directed by Roger Kumble who honestly is such an interesting and magnificent director.
Jenny being worried that a Galaxy of Fear video would be too niche is kind of cute. *Glances at the 2.5+ million views on the video about a Hallmark youtube channel*
I live for Jenny telling me about things I would never have heard or cared about otherwise. They wouldn't be magical to me, but when Jenny talks about them I can see the magic she sees.
if you do ever decide to revisit the vampire diaries universe i think Legacies (the second spin off) would be worth looking at as well. its a complete tonal shift w a monster of the week format (yes, they add actual monsters) and it’s terrible but entertaining/intriguing
The OUAT video is the dream tbh, what an unhinged show! I was always disturbed by a sneaking suspicion that the show's creators set up all the curses and the weirdness of Regina being so close in age to Snow (I think the actresses are the same age?) so they could have four generations of a family in their main cast without having any of the actresses be over 40. But the entertainment of Lana Parrilla and Robert Carlyle acting the SHIT out of those silly silly lines can make up for a lot. I would eat up a deep dive, although I understand the struggle of committing to a full rewatch.
Bring back the "There make be snakes" t shirt please 😊
On the topic of merch stores, Freshstore is the one a lot of creators I follow use. The clothes are really nice quality and some have made unique merch with them like trading cards, Christmas ornaments, lunch boxes and the usual plushies, hoodies and pins. One video I think I remember you mentioning you were making was the different light saber forms or stances. That always seemed like an interesting idea.
I'm trying to decide which is more warped and unintentionally disturbing: the Kissing Booth movies or the Ewok movies.
i have watched so many videos about i wanna marry harry, i actually cannot get enough of that bizzare social experiment of a show. that might just be me, though
Personally, I've been RECOMMENDED those videos, but I don't tend to watch them all the way through because I have a lot of trouble with the fact that it's a show that was just... psychologically cruel to people. It's "hard to watch" in that way that I don't really WANT to see people IRL suffering.
I definitely get the concern that the Galaxy of Fear video would be too niche, but to my mind it sounds like just the right amount of 'too niche.' It's grounded in two very accessible and nostalgic concepts (Star Wars and the *idea* of Goosebumps books, even if there's no official connection), and the fact that these two things got combined into something that could be described as 'too niche' is the fascinating part.
Loved this video!! Also in terms of merch- dftba store! Always have a good experience shopping there (I'm from the UK and always feel confident using them)x
I second using dftba store!
ngl, Jeff the Killer book 2 sounds a lot like Wednesday season 1.
Praying for an IP-infringement lawsuit between Ms. Nickleson and the producers of Wednesday, with all screenwriters' notes subject to discovery! That would be the *second* time Jenny's Patreon content had been mined / pilfered / exploited by Netflix.
idk why but im just dying at how they just gave you a random asian name on the press pass. like they just have a big red button to slam when they don't know someone's name to just make them an ethnic stereotype
Really enjoyed the look behind the scenes in this video. It's always fascinating to hear about Jenny's process. Also absolutely love the looks (even the Batman one!) and the squishmallow cameos. Gosh, that Felice one is pretty great. I want it.
Dftba shop!!!!!
Great ramble...Also just want to say more preview videos are always appreciated, even if they are released out of order!
The second Jeff the Killer book is actually still for sale on Amazon by the original author (Neesha Nickleson)!
I think the Jeff the Killer sequel would make a good patreon vid (hint hint higher tiers) since, I would hope, those of us who pay to watch more Jenny aren't weird internet trolls.
I would hope Patron people could Be Cool but like… this video for example already has approaching 10k views, so we’re definitely still talking a sizable enough possible audience that I’d understand being concerned about pointing it towards someone who didn’t seem to want the attention.
Oh, I can't wait for a Divergent video. I love those movies, they're so terrible, but enjoyable. I remember laughing in disbelief where they float up in a ball or something, like that whole series was so cheesy, and the fact that they couldn't fund the last movie is just the cherry on top.
I'm about halfway through. A couple of things, I wish you could have read that other Creepy Pasta character book, those book read throughs were fun, and I especially loved the story you read. And 2 I can't believe you don't like Star Wars land!!! I love that place, I could spend all day there. Maybe the fact that it's empty and I don't have to be around so many people helps. haha But really, I love the ambience and stuff, but I have to agree, it does feel empty when you think about it. Still love it though, it's always a must see location for us. Another thing, I wish you could do more of the shorter one off videos, I really liked those, and wish you didn't feel that everything needs a thesis or heavy research. Totally get feeling this way, and I'm glad we get the shorter one off videos here on the patreon! I love what you do, off to watch the rest!
I feel like a Polly pocket retrospective would be for me, specifically and individually. But yeah, I’ll also add to the mountain of comments saying a OUAT video sounds very fun. But frankly, I’lol watch anything you make regardless of subject matter, so I’m just excited for whatever’s not in the graveyard!
the fact that cost isn't real is a fascinating topic and i'd totally be interested. maybe you could break it up into multiple videos? also the idea of you looking totally different in parts of the video because it spanned so long in research/writing is a feature, not a bug. very odyssean journey, i like it.
I vaguely remember you mentioning on twitter there was a possiblity of a once upon a time video, glad to hear that isn't dead dead because I'd really like to see that ...partially because its one of my favorite shows to critique.
I mean. Hank Green owns a massive YouTuber merch company and it seems like a certainly that they would want to work with you.
I love the implication that a Jenny-annotated copy of an obscure published fanfic is somehow less valuable than a pristine copy.
That’s why Jenny should start her own book appraisal company and artificially pump up their value. Then she could sell them for a huge profit.
I didn't even know there were more Swan Princess movies beyond the first three, insane to think they just released a new one in the year of our lord 2023. Fingers crossed you do end up doing that video, sounds super fun. Also glad to hear the OUAT video isn't scrapped yet, that show got so dumb and convoluted after season 1 and even dumber after 3
I only know that there were more Swan Princess movies because 2 years ago Allison Pregler took a look at the fourth one, The Swan Princess Christmas, which includes creepy CGI animation and some really terrible auto-tuned versions of classic Christmas songs. There are TEN of those movies right now. It's crazy.
Commented too fast, had more. If the app game in Disneyland is the same as Disneyworld, where you, like, text with Finn to help him escape a Star Destroyer, it's... it's fine. Basically fine. Killed the time in the Rise of the Resistance line just fine. Better than the bounty hunting game, a pale shadow of the Ducktales games in Epcot. The only, only issue I have with the Snyder Cut video not happening (why deal with Snyder Cultists if you don't have to) is Jenny and Aragog looked GREAT, those outfits are amazing. Did the TROLL sequel get around to saying what TROLL is an acronym for?
It's confusing but there are two Galaxy's Edge app games. The first is called some stupidly long name like Disney Parks Play App: Star Wars Datapad, and is one that involves scanning QR codes around the land, doing busywork simple puzzles, and being rewarded with points that don't mean anything. (Something they don't tell you is that they reuse this crummy gameplay for 90% of the $5000 star wars hotel) The new game is called something Bounty Hunter and I believe requires the new $60 magic bands to play, but I think involves screens around the land. So it might be a 10% better game but also it's not even technically free to pay
Go ahead and post whatever preview of the Starcruiser video you'd like! We just enjoy seeing your progress, especially when you're so excited about it.
As far as abandoned and ancient bad fanfics go, I'd say 'legolas by laura' would be fun one!
I watched it the weekend it came out! I SAW THE BEANIE DOC!
Insanity and Welcome to the Mansion are for sale online again! I bought them recently. I wonder what this means for the author. I hope it was N3 herself who re-listed them, and that this means she's doing better and has some fondness for her work, or is at least profiting.
A few years ago, the author repudiated both books, saying she only wrote them to win a scholarship, but *now* she can see they were bad and shouldn't have been published. I emailed her to say that while her books weren't *polished*, they had a compelling energy and vision, -- and were fun to read, genuinely good -- so I hoped she'd keep on Amazon forever. My guess is, the internet hatred lost its sting, and she's now at peace with her early work.
Oh my god, PLEASE do a UOAT recap video. I’ve seen exactly one episode, and the line “they massacred us and destroyed our beans” is forever burned into my brain.
I almost missed out completely on one of my favourite YouTube creators because the algorithm kept suggesting a 45 minute video with "Part 3" in the title and I wasn't having it, so Jenny's very right about "Part 2" videos. Also I understand it's not happening, but not only would I absolutely watch a two hour deep dive into the made-for-TV Ewok movies, Jenny doing a video on those while continuing not to watch the new shows would be inherently funny. (For the record it's fine she's not watching them, Andor's the only good one since season one of Mando, sorry if that's a hot take)
Re: merch, might be worth reaching out to Strange Aeons. She has some content overlap with you, and a large audience, and seems to have been through quite a saga with different vendors. Don’t know if you know her personally, but given your channel I’d be shocked if she wouldn’t discuss with you honestly. Also, sorry complaining about posting infrequency found a new way to ruin YT comments for you. It should be obvious by now that the best channels on the platform have pretty consistently moved in the direction of longer, better content that takes greater risks and much more time to make. We don’t expect other documentarians to have the same output as people who make Let’s Plays for a living. Why should it be any different for YouTube?
I hate the weird projected grindset of YouTube commenters who treat their subscriptions like a finite resource. I’d way rather get like 3 videos a year that are super high quality than daily (or even weekly) twitch highlight compilation slop, which seems to be what a lot of YouTubers are pivoting to. Also I think it’s interesting how a lot of people (Patrons included) leave comments saying “I know you’re unsure about that video concept but you always do a great job so I’d still want to watch it!” apparently without considering that maybe part of the reason why the quality of your vids is so high is because you make the correct decisions about what is and isn’t working. Oh and RIP to the lightsaber video, so dead it didn’t make it into the graveyard (old patrons know).
Lol the lightsaber video
POLLY. POCKET. 😭😭😭😭
A polly pocket video wouldn't just be self-indulgent! It would be me-indulgent also
OMG, I can't believe we've been deprived of the sequel to Insanity by dumb internet bullies. Welcome to the Mansion sounds epic and I would gladly plunk down actual American Space Dollars to read it. I want creepypasta highschool adventures and a very detailed descriptions of all menus, damnit!
Submitted that last comment early. Also just wanted to say I'm hyped for the Starcruiser video! I hope it comes out in November, but if not, genuinely, it's no big deal. We'll be here.
So Fantastic Beasts didn't make it into this ramble either as a graveyard topic or a "not dead but nowhere close" one. Am I misremembering or were there plans for a video roasting the third film? Like Divergent, it's a series where they had more movies planned that are probably not getting made now, which I think you even joked about in one of the other Fantastic Beasts videos, which is very funny. Would be a quicker video to get out, too.
I would love to do the final fantastic beasts, that movie was awful
If you get a chance to see it the new saw is really really good! I would love to hear your thoughts on the rest of them
I just saw it and it was great!
Crazy how much stuff that is unreleased or half finished. Very interesting video 🙂 Thanks for the insight!!
What about a Take 2 instead of a Part 2? Also I'd love a clip graveyard if you ever chose to do one
There’s nothing scarier than lost potential and the ghost dogs of moon lake
I'm sad about the Mystery Lodge video (I loved that show, and it feels like there's so little content about Knott's attractions out there), but I get your concerns about research and presentation. I'd still be really happy to see it if you do figure out how best to deal with the more difficult parts, but in any case, it's good to know why it went from a work in progress to the graveyard.
ooh this is going to make me mourn for videos i never knew
I forgot to mention that on my flight home the person seated right behind me turned out to be a (one-time? current?) patron and was really nice! I felt bad cause another passenger was kind of creepy and kept finding excuses to touch me and at one point started trying to tell me about how he's a nymphomaniac, so they caught me kind of mid-running-away from him at landing lol. But I really appreciated the kind words and was not trying to run away from them!
Whyyyy are people like this, ew 😨
I would watch the hell out of a Polly Pocket video!!
I realise you are hype to hear Jenny’s specific perspective on Polly Pocket, but I do recommend Li Speaks video on the subject if you haven’t already seen it!
I was psyched to hear Jenny saying she has merch designs. I’d love to get merch. I have seen the Redbubble stuff, but the more the merrier.
The scream queens omggg I remember so vividly some of the drama, like some challanges were being cute and spooky and others were terrrible, like this girl who had to wear blinding contact lenses for an agonizing long photoshoot
I love how they all had to be like... good at screaming, emotional scenes, sexy scenes, despair, etc etc etc, and then the role the season 2 winner got was "girlie who screams for a few seconds and gets her head crushed"
Hey Jenny! This is the first ramble vid I have got to see posted since joining as a Patron. The Star Wars hologram theme park thing sounds hilarious and interesting, so if you ever revive or revisit that, I am sure it would be great. I had definitely been missing your old videos like the bingo cards or the five to ten minute ones where you just shared some funny thoughts no pressure. I really enjoy the more long form, documentary style content you make now as well, so having access to the Patreon and the Youtube is pretty sweet.
I want the Galaxy of Fear video soooo bad. Those books defined my preteen years!
The original Slenderman fanfic video fascinated me so much that I actually bought the sequel a few years ago and you're so right when you said it's crazier than the first. My favorite plot development was the self insert character meeting a second, Even More "self-inserty" character and baking cupcakes with her.
I like your profile picture
Fun fact about Ty Warner: my aunt's mom actually has a TON of mutual connections with him; he's always brought up at least once when I visit her! I'm sorely disappointed we won't get a few of these videos, but I'm absolutely praying some day we get the Dog's Purpose Trilogy video!!! Aaaa!!!
i stand in solidarity with the beanie babies video. i want to hear about the felon ceo who grew his empire of bean filled toys
Before your Evermore video dropped a random group of people were credulously discussing how awesome Evermore sounded and how they should travel from the Pacific Northwest to Utah to go see it while I was picking up a pizza. I think there was 1-2 previews on the Patreon but it was super weird finding people talking about it in the wild. I wanted to warn them
As far as merch goes, I know DFTBA has been around forever and is like…run by one or both Green brothers, so they are legit. And more recently, a couple of TikTokers I follow started using Bonfire, and I received stuff and it was as described, so I imagine it’s legit? I think Bonfire may be print on demand, though.
I know i would really enjoy merch, have you checked in with the fine folks at DFTBA?
i dont know much about youtuber merch but fwiw the one piece of yoututber merch i have purchased was from jarvis johnson, and it is extremely good quality and i love it
Internet comment etiquette sells awesome shirts and posters, its not just his logo or face or some garbage like that
The thing I was really hoping would happen in the Jeff the Killer fanfiction sequel was that Mallory, the knife-wielding mean girl that they kill in the first book, comes back as a zombie creepypasta monster who now works for zaldo or whatever it’s name is. She’d be all gross and cut up like a creepypasta monster, but her she’s still in her pink ensemble and her hair is still glossy, and of course, she still has her pink sparkly knife.
It's interesting to me how packed the cantina always is, for how underwhelming it is. I would have expected that the novelty would have worn off a bit. It might be my imagination, but I've noticed that recently Disney's other themed bars seem to be harder and harder to get into, too. It was possible a few years ago to walk into Trader Sam's (the wdw one), but now you have to camp out at 2pm. I don't know if there has been some kind of demographic shift (maybe because of increased prices?) or if I just have bad luck.
on the topic of beanie babies, I promise you that none of us even knew that hbo doc existed, let alone would accuse you of making a redundant video just because a streaming service did a doc on it. also you would make it actually enjoyable to watch, unlike every other corporate biopic type project thats released in the past three years.
I knew, but only because I saw it while browsing HBO the other day and my first thought was, “Oh, no! Does this mean Jenny might not do her video now?”
The idea of like a Hype House or youtuber content house for creepy pasta characters is so funny, it’s too bad you weren’t able to do a video about that sequel. It really sounds like the pinnacle of those kinds of fanfics that are objectively not good, but are exceedingly earnest and so obviously a self-insert fantasy of the author, who is probably in middle school. It’s the type of creativity that’s just full of childlike shameless imagination, without the adult feeling of creative endeavors needing to be good or monetized for them to be valid.
Now I'm on my own mental tangent thinking about creepy pastamonsters
What happened to the McDonalds doll that had been behind you?
It is very unfortunate that they ended up scrapping the role play feature where I could have been told that various Star Wars characters are angry with me personally.
I must confess, l did watch the HBO Beanie Baby doc. I would still watch yours though!
I can't believe some people were complaining about this topic being chosen! This was a fascinating peek behind the curtain and has to be one of my favourite rambles you've ever done. I really hope we get that Mystery Lodge video someday.
As someone who was negative about this topic, I do still appreciate this video, but for me it's not going to age into a classic I'll re-watch again and again like Jenny reading the Spider-man script or several of her videos here about animatronics and theme park stuff I never would've thought of looking up on my own. I've also realized that a lot of the videos she decided against making are ones I wouldn't have been all that interested in in the first place, which exceptions being the Welcome to the Mansion one and the one about the Mystery Lodge (which I'm not familiar with, but I'd be interested in knowing about how the illusion was done if anyone ever figured it out, just because I think that that stuff is cool. I'd also like to know how the land it was in was received, but I totally understand why Jenny would be apprehensive about trying to present something on a culture she's not a part of, and I would like to see a relevant opinion on it).
I appreciate how much you think about a target audience and an author's goals, because yes I also support tweens writing about food all the time they are Growing and Hungry. And I consistently think about your point from the Forces of Destiny video - children deserve good things too that suit their interests. Really changed how I engage with children's media! Enjoyed this walk through a graveyard just as much as I do a walk through an IRL graveyard :)
Anyway soooo incredibly down for a once upon a time video, what an acid trip that show was. It is so ripe for a VPD style travelog. Thank you for the Star Wars part 2 closure and Jeff the killer 2 closure, and always grateful to hear the Barbie video isn’t dead yet!
Jenny what’s your take on hiring help? I don’t know how YouTube economics work, is that some thing you’d be able to afford? I can’t tell if you have a team already, but it does seem like you do this a lot on your own. Might be less painful to get out the longform videos if you can farm out the editing work to others. I’m sure you’ve thought about this already, but I’m curious what your thoughts are.
Jenny once said that her editing skills are how she makes her YouTube magic, so that (probs) isn't a service she could hire for. But maybe paying someone to scour source footage for relevant clips would be doable, once a script is ready? 🤔
The ending was kind of a bummer like why can't people be more chill? Even on the little preview you posted on twitter (or whatever it's called now) someone commented if you only post on patreon now 😑
The beanie baby Logan Paul part reminded me of this video. That kind of shit appears to happen pretty often: https://youtu.be/rvLFEh7V18A?si=8P8BF1VVgGOklR8s
Would love to hear your take about the Harry dating show! :) this was a neat video to hear the thought process on deciding what videos to do or not
Oh thank god you're still interested in doing the VPD style OUAT video, I only got up to season 3 I think and that show was batshit in a good way (but also hoo boy did it have similar issues to VPD on the representation front, woof)
I don’t know where else to put this, Jenny. But I feel the need to recommend the movie Circus Island (2006) to you. It has everything you could want - a man lost at sea, a pair of twins, a child with a rat tail, circus camp, and ghosts!
NGL Jenny I feel like you could do a Patreon only video on Welcome to the Mansion; I rewatch a ton of your old videos including the Insanity and that would be a really special treat for your Patrons; I would imagine that we as a collective would be more trustworthy and also I am just DESPERATE. But I do also respect not wanting to open up that can of worms again. I just love any sort of long form video from you :D
You don’t know how excited I got when I saw this video dropped
Thank you so much for giving me closure on some of these videos haha I appreciate that (Jeff the killer mostly, I can't believe people are so rude to the authors). I literally recently saw a meme about people complaining about youtubers posting long videos essays that are just rambling and pointless, and in the comments everyone was complaining about the same thing. I saw something about you but the person was like "but she only makes videos for pateron now" and I was like???? You make such detailed and interesting videos that feel conclusive, which I love! I know that if I put on a Jenny video, I'm not getting half content or filler content, which is great. There are a few youtubers I feel I can go into the videos blind and leave the video having learned more about the topic, rather than just having it summarized to me. Idk, that kind of commentary really bothers me, because wouldn't you rather have well thought out content? Happy Halloween, hope the spiders are treating you well now that they're in season!!
I would honestly be so hyped for a once upon a time video. That show was my childhood, and I can only imagining having to explain that family tree to someone
dftba makes high-quality youtuber merch!
Seconding those who recommend watching the later after movies. A friend and I decided to watch all of them as fun bad movies and almost gave up after the first one because it's just kind of boring. After 2 kicked things up so many notches that we watched the entire rest of the series.
I Loved this ramble video. I wanted to comment once I heard you interested in making a video on the scream queens reality show. There’s this really good run down of it by the channel in praise of shadows, still I would love to get your thoughts on the show. Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/XLSyoqk0LwI?si=f1narSFS373IhX2n.
I joined patreon recently and saw the Beanie Baby video mentioned from the backlog of rambles, and then was wondering about it for a while afterwards since updates stopped. I would have loved to see it ngl.
I don't want to watch any of the videos you don't feel comfortable making ethically, but I would love to watch a bunch of these. I have one exception to the ethics aspect, though. I am fascinated by the illusion video because of the questions you were wrestling with that you mentioned. It would be a departure in tone from your usual videos, and require a lot more legwork, but I would absolutely watch a "here's all the stuff I learned on my journey to figure out how this trick was done" video from you. I think it would be right up there with hbomberguy and Defunctland's roblox and disney channel theme vids. And I think there is room for, and value in, ambiguity in that sort of video. I don't think there are perfect answers to the questions you raise, but I do think posing them is a worthwhile endeavor.
I loved the Galaxy of Fear books as a kid. Very much a hidden gem
I'd still LOVE the in-depth Beanie Babies video! The in-depther the better. And I think my husband and I have literally turned to each other after seeing the Dog's Purpose(s) trailers and said they would make the perfect Jenny vid
as a Tennessee native who grew up going to dollywood and pigeon forge, gatlinburg, and all those other crazy tourist traps I NEED to hear your TN kitsch video. my friend was just telling me about how she revisited the Dinosaur Walk Museum and how disappointing it is.
Wait.. Sharknados are bad?!? /s
Not to be dramatic, but I’d give my life for the Once Upon a Time video. Even if you only do one here and not for your main channel. PLEASE
I second this. I need someone else to talk about once upon a time so I can be sure I didn't just dream it all
I feel so at peace about having finally gotten star wars land closure
I think the Starcruiser video will be Star Wars Land closure for me.
i would honestly love to see a beanie baby video with added discussion on other collectors' markets post-internet!! your recent videos (evermore in particular) could be considered bordering on "internet historian". since you put so much research + add analysis on top, you could almost frame it as two case studies in the internet collector's market. i'm sure you could mix MLP toy collecting in there as well; your jenny's choice ramble about them was really entertaining! (if you couldn't tell i am also extremely interested by internet cultures and their behavior lmao)
Jenny I need you to watch the rest of the After movies. I agree the first is the weakest but the later movies are incredible. They have been my aggressive special interest for years. Arguably the funniest bad films I have ever seen. Especially After 2. If you do anything please watch After 2
you should run your merch shop through DFTBA.com, here is the link for creators: https://store.dftba.com/pages/partner-with-us
iirc I tried to contact them once years ago and didn't hear back so I felt embarrassed and gave up lol. but maybe I should try again
learning big joel robbed us of a jenny video......ill never forgive him for this
I was just looking for an Insanity pt 2 video a couple weeks ago. I am GUTTED
Same
i literally bought a hologram funworld sweater from your red bubble in 2018 bc i thought it was such a funny design and wore it for like a year straight. i had no idea there was supposed to be a video for that and now i’m devastated
~27 minutes in: 1st found you being referenced in a Wall Street Journal article that may have high (low) lit Escape from Tomorrow. This Ramble is awesome.
AAAAAAAAAAAAHH OH GOD OH SHIT OH FUCK -Me when Im scared by a ghost, circa 2022, 4K HD remastered audio
It's not officially spooky season until Jenny posts her Halloween vid 👻
About 30 min in & loving the ramble! For merch maybe consider DFTBA Don't Forget To Be Awsome! It's John & Hank Green's online store for creators, Lindsay Ellis has also done merch through DFTBA!
I don't know details, but lots of online creators I like use DFTBA to sell merch
i bought Welcome to the Mansion on kindle years ago and have been like “im gonna read that” lmao and maybe i will but its funny i felt myself be like “wait! no spoilers!” for a book thats been in my library since 2017
I'm inclined to believe slenderman's bidding is just breaking and entering. maybe some graffiti vandalism.
The Jeff the Killer sequel book, Welcome to the Mansion (Insanity), is still available to purchase in paperback. So, even though the video's never going to happen, people can still buy the book and get a kick out of it, and maybe even help the author out in the process.
Love your hat
this vid’s game changing
i wonder if jenny could do the slender mansion video just for patreon, since the odds of people going and harassing are lower
Something that I think some YouTubers struggle with is the idea that we as viewers are not there for the facts. Like if I just wanted the story of beanie babies I'd research them myself. We all have access to the same internet after all. What I'm here for is the facts "as told to me by Jenny Nicholson". Even if another media has covered the same topic I'll still watch it again because I'm there for the jenny experience lol.
I mean sometimes there are youtubers that do great research, almost investigative journalism. Defunctland, Dan Olson, Dr Geoff Lindsey. But that can be a different style of content
I wish I could pull off a Beret.
Happy birthday to me👻👻 can't wait to watch this tonight
First video posted since I joined Patreon! So exciting!
Same!
About the beanie baby vid- I was so interested when you mentioned you were going to do a video on them that I couldn’t wait and just went and watched a whole load of video essays and short docs on them and it was super interesting and cool! But I think the most interesting parts of the video you make is your interesting additions and ‘rambles’ and just the way you tell the story :) especially the fandom stuff! If you do ever decide to ‘dig it up’ I think we would all be so so excited to watch it! I don’t know if it’s just me but my favourite vids and rambles of yours are about toys and toy lines, I think it just feels so much more special and unique coming from someone with an actual interest and history with toys and collecting!
Agree, I feel like an appreciation for toys, stuffed animals, cute characters etc is the secret sauce for why those docs can't replace a true Jenny Beanie Babies vid
i hope this graveyard contains real tombstones purchased online for ghost purposes
Woohoo! Any plans on a Barbie 2023 video?
Not its own video but it will be included in the Barbie movies tier list! ....whenever that happens, there are like 50+ movies in the list and they're making them faster than I can keep up
JENNNYYYYYYYYYYYY
Omg the outfit 😭 those colours are the sweetest on her 🍏 💕❤️
The beret is perfect, no notes.
YAAAAAAAY I'm saving this to listen to at work tomorrow. So so excited
