Ramble: Scaaaaaarrryy movie commentary

it's so funny in mid 2025 seeing past Jenny genuinely debate booking the Star Wars Hotel knowing in the future she will single handedly and fully deservedly tank the shareholder value of the Disney corporation by billions with her extensive research on this trip in a 4 hour video currently viewed by over 13 million people and aid the company in their continuing mission of making the Star Wars brand itself so intensely toxic Disney has to essentially release a series with the thesis "Eat The Rich, Fuck The Empire" to even TRY to redeem it
for an even funnier moment, she has a moment in her interview with Kevin Perjurer of Defunctland where he brings up the concept that Disney is opening a Star Wars-themed hotel, and she genuinely says "oh, I actually don't know much about that!"
So glad Jenny went to the hotel. I would have never have found her channel otherwise
I've watched the original Scooby-doo series a few times and enjoy it but its not really for the humor or anything, I think I just find old cartoons from before I was born really interesting, and the animation aspect of it. idk just something about it I find very charming. I wouldn't really call myself a Scooby-doo fan though cause I really have only watched the original series and a few of the movies (watched Cyber Chase and the alien one a lot as a kid). This one did seem good for kids on that level though of just general silliness and fun backgrounds and characters.
Watching this again a year later: I don't really get why you liked the Jack O'Lantern so much, or really the movie in general. I'm not really a Scooby-Doo "fan", but I watched a lot of Scooby-Doo when I was younger and while it was never a series of high art and masterful writing this one definitely feels low on the list of "movies that used their concept well". More well-regarded Scooby-Doo movies at least have a solid story, better animation, and a few big set pieces, but I feel like this one had a really loose story and... I think that the idea of a ghost train and land where Halloween monsters live are all great, but I've seen it done better!
I lost it at Jay Leno
I had the same experience with So You Want to be a Wizard
julia cudney on youtube has a video where she ranks every single scooby doo movie, briefly describes all of them and includes highlights and stuff. even as someone who as a child was overcome with incredible frustration and boredom whenever those movies came on tv as a kid i found it super entertaining, i highly recommend it!
Wallace Shawn you wild for this one. His whole career has been a real rollercoaster and Kevin from Kids in the Hall reminded me of the half of it in his (idk if it was short lived but I’m not googling now) podcast with WS was on once and itwasgood. The recent woody Allen thing just looks so regrettable bud
Or Newman from Seinfeld (the villain in this movie)? So cool
Wade Knight?
The pumpkin revealing the candle in it's throat is such a funny scene to me
So cool that you're going to the Efteling! It's near where I grew up, so I've been there hundreds of times. My favorite attraction is 'het Spookslot' (the Ghost Castle), which sadly is closing down for good. I'm not sure if it's still open, but if it is, I'm 100% sure you'll enjoy it. Be sure to try and opening the door in the far end when you first enter. Nobody tries that anymore. :-)
oh my gosh i'm still in the middle of watching this, but your comment about the Diane Duane book series about wizards made me literally cry out because!! I read them and stopped for the EXACT SAME REASON. I think I only read two of them, but I absolutely fell in love with the second book's shark sidekick character!! And I was so devastated when he sacrificed himself, I just refused to read any more of them LMFAO.. I still have that shark book, it's one of my treasures. But, I was just so glad to hear someone else having the same experience as me with these books.. 🙈
I've read all of them and the second is still my favorite!
I mean, I'm never going to be able to go to the Star Wars hotel so I'd rather live vicariously through you and Lindsey (I'm assuming your sister would be going) than some douchey Disney Vlogger.
My great grandpa was able to do a flawless Donald Duck voice by removing his dentures.
I’m interested to know how the hotel is gonna do for meatless options!
I cannot imagine anything the Star Wars hotel provides being worth $5000+ Especially with THAT being the "basic" package.
I vote for the gay Netflix Christmas movie that actually looks really good!
Tim Curry!
My family went to Dollywood. Would love to see two parter on that and the Pigeon Forge strip.
I just watched this movie with my friends. And I’m surprised Jenny didn’t mention the sheer amount of body horror in that film
just had a goodish idea for a ramble. can you review the futuristic amusment parks of cowboy bebop ep. 20 the one about the bouncing murder man? the new live action season of bebop should have the equivalent in it too. might be a good video, lots of cool stuff in space land (if you ignore all the violence.) my favorite is the cherub that appears to tell you "you're not allowed in this area, lets play outside!"
Re: Star Wars hotel, I just thought about the other guests. You're going to be rubbing elbows with the richest and/or most dedicated Star Wars fans, which might get awkward, especially if they recognize you. If you decide to go I'm sure it 'll be fine, but imo go in prepared to laugh off some social encounters.
I absolutely want the full evermore video more than the next ramble btw like, I love the rambles but if it's about preferences I um, super want that full video lmfao I love it so much
Diane Duane is great; Young Wizards is great; her adult series "Middle Kingdoms" was doing queer poly rep back in 1979 (!!); altogether a quality human being with quality SFF works to her name
Please balance out the expensive Star Wars hotel review with a review of KiteTails.
scoob ramb
In the spirit of the 'ALL D23 news whether we care or not' video: -if I got an all-expenses-paid trip to the Star Wars Hotel I would care about that 2/10. (I'm lazy & stay-at-home and I live thousands of miles away) -if Jenny did a video on the Star Wars Hotel I would care about that 9/10
Honestly, this is true for me for the majority of the stuff that Jenny makes videos about
I think Evermore will do 685k+ in the first week. I want to say more but I'm being circumspect 🤞
853k+ you coward 🎰😆🤞
Additional note: if there is one person on this gasoline soaked ball rolling towards the fireplace that we live on who can be absolved of the sin of going to Star Wars hotel, it’s you. I won’t be sad if you don’t (unless that will get the pt. 2 of the Star Wars land video made in which case I will be a lil sad), but I also think you are the one person whose opinion on the matter I trust.
Shouldn’t have scrolled to the updates. Now I’m going to have to live with the thought of you at Efteling which, frankly, is just magical to imagine independent of any content you make about it.
your rambles always cheer me up when im having a rough day ; v; I'm very VERY excited for everything you have on the docket right now. Starwars hotel video would be AWESOME because I will never go so you will have to go for me lmao But don't do anything you're uncomfortable with! I can't see myself enjoying something if the whole time im feeling guilty about all the more important things I could have spent the money on... Although tbh if you set a goal like..."I will go to star wars hotel if x number of patrons bump their pledge by x amount for at least one month" or something, to offset the cost, I would totally do that.
A star wars hotel vid would be cool; no way im ever going to experience it otherwise. Also really excited for this evermore video. The suspense is killing me.
I'm pretty sure the voice of Krudsky was also the collector in Toy Story 2. The one who stole Woody.
you're totally right. That was my first thought and I immediately had to run and look it up. It's funny that he's done so much and that's still his most notable role to us
"This town has a high magician to non-magician ratio" You must never have been to Vegas.
Please do the Star Wars hotel vid I would love to see it
I'm a little bit curious about the star wars hotel but not enough to encourage you to spend all that money on it. It's still refundable Jenny. Don't do it for the Tubes.
I would be very excited to see a Star Wars Hotel video!!
If you like salty desserts, try Dorie Greenspan’s “World Peace Cookies.” I love chocolatey, salty desserts, and those are my absolute favorite (super easy to make, too).
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go to the Star Wars hotel but I am fascinated by it and would love to see a video on it if only to experience it vicariously through a video.
On star wars, if you're really uncomfortable don't go but I'd personally love to see it. I think you'd have a thoughtful analysis of the whole thing
think you have to make a star wars hotel video now
After seeing the first half of the Evermore video, it's awesome. I'm definitely excited to see the rest. Efteling sounds like it'll be tons of fun as well. I love travelling to visit amusement and theme parks. That seems like a really good one. As for the Star Wars hotel, I think that it'll at least help people who can't afford to stay there see what it's like. It'll be a video I'd be interested in seeing as well for sure.
Jelloapocalypse considers himself a scooby-doo expert and has a video where he reviews all the films, he ranked goblin king as the third worst.
I don't remotely blame him in that, and this commentary makes me wonder how many Scooby-Doo movies Jenny has seen considering she doesn't like the series.
I think the Star Wars hotel sounds like an interesting video, definitely. But if you can't reconcile the cost of the hotel with the benefits you'll get from the experience and the video views, don't do it. You work hard for your money, you shouldn't feel like you have to spend it on anything that makes you feel this conflicted. Even if you feel like you *should* want to do it enough to make it worth it.
Honestly I feel you are doing the world a disservice if u dont review the star wars hotel. Nobody else has the skills to do the topic justice in my opinion. Go and film it if you have the money to!
im a big fan of bad Christmas movies and I promise you with all my heart the best one Ive ever seen is "Christmas crush/ highschool holiday reunion" (it has two names I don't know why) I promise you its got everything, even MUSICAL NUMBERS!!!!!! they do a sexy version of Oh Christmas tree
I did the same thing - booked Star Wars hotel with my Star wars credit card, lol
I think I’d honestly prefer to see your perspective on the Star Wars hotel since I know you’ll give an honest opinion separate from fandom bias. Plus I know I’ll never experience it myself so a vid from you is like the next best thing 😭😂
I totally agree that journeys through friendly fantastical worlds are so much fun.
Purple and crimson is such an underrated color combination.
You need to go to the Star Wars hotel and review it to spare the rest of us the existential angst of deciding whether or not to go ourselves. “Do it for the views, Jenny.“
HELLO. I have recently been informed of a the existance of a mythical creature called a SLEIPNIR, a horse with eight legs which some might call a SPIDER HORSE. That is all.
I mean NOTHING by it but I think that's a little "WRONG" haha not that any version of a mythical thing is less valid etc but I think SLEIPNIR is a singular PROPER noun not a collective one for like a type of CRYPTID. It was an alias of loki - that was funny though lmfao 🐎🕷🐎🕷🐎🕷🐎🕷
1. i REALLLLY want the beanie baby video i dont know anything about them but im so ready to learn 2. i went and watched both of the smaller channel scooby doo reviews (put them on mute and let them play) and didnt skip the ads, idk why, it felt wrong not to 3. i dont think anyone needs to feel bad abt going to the star wars hotel? like, its ok its content i kinda wanna see it
Probably no one on Earth is more attuned than Jenny to all the fine intersections of Disney hospitality and Star Wars EU immersion. So aesthetically, this hotel was *made* for her, their ideal guest!
whats evermore? w.e. it is im still gonna watch.
I would totally watch the star wars hotel vud, bonus points for it being harsh on the richness of it (I bet most reviews will ignore that element)
I didn't think I watched this until Wallace Shaun started singing, then the whole movie came back to me in a rush.
"I spent an absurd amount of money at the star wars hotel so you don't have to" is a video I would click SO fast
I love your story doctoring, I was so excited whenever you started going in on how to make scooby doo a stronger story!
Please go to the hotel and do a video on it! I think you'll be more comfortable telling it like it is than the average reviewer. It seems like the kind of situation that needs a wet blanket.
☠💀☠💀✨✨✨🤣
JAMES Belushi featuring in a SCooby Doo RAMBLE? We finally have our Jimmy Scrambles!!
I live in Tampa, and even though I’m only a 2 hour drive from Orlando, I don’t think I can justify the cost of the Star Wars hotel. But I agree with the comment that your trepidation about going will only make the video better 😁
My small town has 2 magicians. Which feels weird cause we're only 2500 people total. But I guess it's a mountain town so it attracts some weird characters. They're pretty awful though. I saw a performance at the farmer's market once, and it was pretty bad. She stopped after, like, 10 minutes, and the person who was MC-ing (and also the day's musical act) was like, "Give it up for *insert magician name*. Her aunt just died so this was really rough." Which was a very weird thing to announce to a crowd of small children. God I love small towns in the southwest.
For the star wars hotel, I 100% think you should go! Assuming you can comfortably afford it. Partly because you deserve to have a nice time but also because I'd love to hear about your experience there.
Sorry for the double comment here, but fwiw, a big part of the reason I support people's patreons is because I want them to be able to do stuff like go on overpriced novelty vacations. For myself, I make in a year what this Patreon brings in in two months-- maybe one month, depending on backer striation. But the reason I back it and others like it anyway is that it makes me happy to know that creative people whose work is meaningful or fun for thousands of people can experience fun and joy in their own lives. So tl;dr, it's great to be sensitive to the fact that people like me can't afford the stay, and that even the existence of such a luxury in the light of our poverty is kind of gross. If you do end up making content about it, please do acknowledge that. But also, I hope you go and have an amazing vacation. That's kind of why I give my two bucks, you know?
"Goblins are under-represented in all media" Well, not in hentai. At least not anymore. Thanks, Goblin Slayer, for starting a trend that will haunt us for years to come...
Thanks for this super fun video! I was relieved that a spooky topic won this month. When I heard Lauren Bacall’s voice I couldn’t believe it lol. What a random and amazing pull for a Scooby Doo movie. I’m excited about all the future content you mentioned, including the Star Wars hotel, but I totally understand your conundrum. I agree that providing demand at all seems like it would be encouraging more of a bad thing. However, there are definitely going to be other reviewers who go and paint the rosiest picture possible, no matter what the real experience is like. By going yourself you might provide a more critical and honest perspective than potential guests could find elsewhere.
Oh my gosh! jenny looks like a cute muppet puppet when she looks down! so perfect!
Zombie Island will forever be the literal best Scooby Doo movie! It's got genuine scares that actually spooked me as a kid, Cajun flare, really hot peppers, creepy cats, plot twists and of course, zombies.
Happy (late) Halloween! Although I enjoy a lot of “Scooby Doo” cartoons, and even own some merch, I can’t say I really like the “title” character at all… I’d much prefer if he was just a mute cartoon-y dog, and wasn’t so anthropomorphized. I certainly don’t think he should be the lead… give Velma more screen-time, dammit! As for the Star Wars Hotel dilemma… personally, I love the idea of being immersed in a sci-fi/fantasy world like that, but also find watching theme-park staff “role-playing” absolutely excruciating (I also hate on-the-street “vox-pop” interviews and hidden-camera shows, so clearly it’s a glitch in my brain somewhere). I wouldn’t pay crazy-money for an experience like that, and I don’t feel you should have to either, just for our entertainment/curiosity. But if you *do* go, please be sure to set the space-horses free, so they run through the casino and spoil all the evil-rich-people’s fun!
I feel like the existential crisis will make the review of the Star Wars hotel all the more engaging. Plus, I feel like it'll be an experience the majority of people will never have.
"Hopefully you're doing something fun on Halloween and not just watching this." Worked a nine-hour shift behind a coffee counter and then watched Halloween III, does that count as fun?
I watched this movie as a kid!!! I believe it came on Cartoon Network. I’ve loved Halloween since I was a small child, and you’d think I’d love the spooky ooky locations, but weirdly I don’t remember any part of it except for the transformations of the Scooby Gang into monsters. That part stuck with me so much because it was like Body Horror for Babies, and I’ve been looking for this movie ever since.
Thank you for scratching an itch I’ve had since I was like 5. Never would have thought to look for my mildly scarring Core Memory in a movie abt a “Goblin King”
I mean, I was working on homework for Halloween. I think my parents got a couple trick-or-treaters. Maybe a dozen? Most of the people in the complex where I live are medical or dental students. I'm a grad student of a different variety. I'm very uncomfortable with the unsecured trap door. Even my employer (granted, it's not like we've been hit by the lack of travel or anything) thinks the star war hotel is too expensive. Like Art of Animation.
The fun thing I did for Halloween was to watch Godzilla vs Kong. My flatmate refuses to watch scary films so we couldn't watch an actual horror :( Seems like Scooby Doo had a more coherent plot than that at least, lol. The Star Wars Hotel video sounds like it could be pretty popular, I'd be interested in seeing it for sure! Cool hat BTW! It reminds me of the soot sprites in Totoro.
RE Star Wars Hotel, I think your review of it would be valuable since I imagine a lot of people going would just be gushing about it. I think you can bring a practical viewpoint to the experience and would be interested to hear your thoughts.
Agree! Most people will be telling themselves they better enjoy it because of the cost
Weirdly, Diane Duane DID write for Scooby-Doo back in the '70s, I think. She also worked on My Little Pony!
In point of fact, she said that writing for Scooby-Doo "bankrolled" Young Wizards: https://twitter.com/dduane/status/1176596412127227905
here feels like an appropriate place to talk about how i (a lesbian) went as velma and my bisexual friend went as daphne for halloween and then we got mistaken for a couple twice throughout our evening
I love the stuffed Whispy Woods!
At the end Shaggy should have ripped the face off the goblin king, revealing another magician and thus ruining a second magic act. I'd be interested in a Star Wars hotel video. With how much it sounds like it costs, it would be interesting to know how much effort they put into it.
I really want to see you roast the star wars hotel.
I knew you were going to have some high-end sarcasm as a response the moment I hear the movie line but the delivery of, "it appears so, Daphne," was sheer comedic perfection. EDIT: Also, I'm reminded by your pointing out of the poorly-integrated CGI in this movie, but I went back and watched Disney's Tarzan on your recommendation and, even after seeing things as modern and visually spectacular as Moana or Coco, I genuinely couldn't comprehend the sheer talent on show in the blending of CGI and traditional animation in that movie. It was absolutely spell-binding.
goblins be like untz untz untz untz untz untz untz
The cast of that movie was INSANE! And yeah echoing everyone else I am hugely excited for your take on the Star Wars Hotel, so hopefully it feels worth it to you!
Excited for the Evermore vide lol. Went last night and they did a good job for Halloween. I think it’s a fun thing to do if you’re local, but it’s been so weird to hear that it’s become known amongst the broader theme park community. The only other park we have in the state is Lagoon, which is an old amusement park that’s not even corporate like six flags; it’s staffed entirely by high schoolers lol. So in contrast Evermore is a huge amount of effort.
All in favor of the Star Wars Hotel review, I'm never going to get to go myself, so I'd like to at least know what it is like!
watching this is what im doing for Halloween, thank
If I can suggest a Christmas movie: Christmas in the Heartland. It’s basically The Prince and the Pauper with two teenage girls at Christmas time but it takes a turn in the last 15 minutes or so that is simply BONKERS. (Christmas Town is another favorite of mine primarily because it looks like it cost five dollars to make and there’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it clip in “Santa’s workshop” that is literally just green screen footage of a Costco. Not even an interesting aisle; just the jewelry counter and office supplies.)
All I can think is how much this makes me want to watch the curse of zombie island again
I had to pause the video when they showed the VA for Jack O'Lantern because I was laughing so hard. Top 10 anime betrayals material.
I'm sooo excited for you to go to the Efteling, I LOVE that place
Jenny's field guide journal is the most amazing virgo energy I've ever seen, I love it
Our hosts hero journey is proving that she likes things as well as she dislikes them. Kvothe, "this is why I don't have knives for hands."
fun fact: The Ghoster Coaster is an actual ride at Canada's Wonderland (just north of Toronto) that used to be Scooby Doo themed back when the area of the park was Hanna Barbera themed. It's still called The Ghoster Coaster even though the area is now Peanuts themed instead!
Of all the comments I hope Jenni sees this one!
100% am gonna need a Star Wars hotel review
I'm very intrigued by you reviewing the Star Wars hotel and I'm glad you got in the first month. For the same reasons you mentioned/your reviews of Pandora and Galaxy's Edge, I think the earlier you go, the more true the experience will be. After the first couple runthroughs, I can't imagine the cast members/actors being as enthusiastic and fully immersed. I'm never gonna do it, especially not in the first month, so I'm glad a content creator who didn't like Rogue One will get to review it.
This was a great Halloween treat!! Also can anyone tell me is the evermore video going to be about a tv show, movie, themepark land or some combination of those things? If it's about a media thing I'll watch it first like vampire diaries. I assume it's not about the Taylor swift album
It’s a theme park in Utah, but I don’t think Jenny would recommend that you go there haha. I think the vid might be along the lines of a documentary hit piece
This is an all star cast, Wayne Knight, Wallace Shawn, Lauren Bacall, and Tim Curry. Also the “not a voice actress Disney star” is Hayden Panetierre
Haha I just watched the breadsworld video where he rates all 44 scooby doo movies and he put this one at the top, interesting to see a full breakdown! I also agree that Shaggy was the villain, what sort of rude jerk ruins a magic performance like that? I'd be so mad if I was in that audience
A Jenny take in the Star Wars hotel is a must!
50/100 bags gone = some vagabond didn't empty the whole bowl into a bag and scarper. What a nice neighbourhood you live in. 👍
I wonder if the name "The Amazing Krudsky" was based off "The Amazing Kreskin" - they seem really similar.
The way I know nothing about Star Wars but would eat up your video on the hotel. I feel like people will enjoy it and be appreciative that they get to see content since they probably won’t be able to go in person
the existence of supernatural stuff in Scooby Doo varies from series to series. The first few eras of scooby doo were very delivered very 'realistically'. In the same tone as books like Hardy Boys or Boxcar kids or Encyclopedia Brown. There is nothing supernatural. The 13 Ghosts Of Scooby-Doo was the first big series to start being entirely set in a supernatural universe. It was meh. Also it was such a weird gang. Just scooby, shaggy, and daphne. Not the team I would have imagined. I'm pretty sure this is the era when ghoul school came out. "A Pup named scooby doo" and "What's New Scooby-Doo" were the ones I grew up on and they also have nothing supernatural. However all the movies in the early 2000s were set in the the "What's New Scooby-Doo" universe, but the movies almost always contain real supernatural elements. This is when that zombie island movie came out. It was something that was definitely known, but never really explained that the TV shows were for normal mysteries and the movies were for supernatural stuff and aliens and sci fi future tech and whatever. If you want another carnival ground themed show, Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase wasn't awful. But I wouldn't super recommend any scooby doo movies to an adult. Apparently the latest scooby doo iteration has a lot of interesting characterization, but I can't watch it because scooby talks constantly, and I hate listening to him.
Bless you for the Squishmallow Boo!
The whole Goblin Scepter crisis happened because Shaggy couldn't not debunk a magician. I know your whole career is proving ghosts and monsters are actually shady land developers in rubber masks but damn, he's just a carnival magician, take a day off. Also it is a shame they didn't have a song for the ghost train. Experts inform me that the only thing cooler than a train is a ghost train, and the only thing cooler than a ghost train is a country song about a ghost train. I'd absolutely want to see an Evermore-style breakdown of the Star Wars hotel. Not as much as I'm looking forward to Evermore but still. And dang, if two days there cost more than the entire Netherlands trip, absolutely make that tax-deductible. Oh yes and that ghost Squishmallow is ADORABLE
I'm still shocked we haven't gotten a single hot take on the pony movie via tweet or in passing in a video.
If you really wanna do the hotel/make a video about it, go for it. I'm sure I'd love a video of you doing it, but I do personally think the hotel is way overpriced, and I would never do it unless there were a much cheaper version without the scheduled activities, which don't sound fun to me at all
Watching this is the fun thing I'm doing for Halloween :)
Thanks for working to improve your audio mixing, much appreciated! I think you shouldn't worry about the cost of the Star Wars hotel as it sounds like an amazing experience that could make such a fascinating video. That's why we support you on Patreon, for cool content!
Fun Fact: my school district’s superintendent growing up claimed to be a brief meme in Korea for having a scary good Donald Duck impression. Apparently, he was interviewed for some random news thing while traveling, nailed the impression randomly and got a few minutes of fame from it. I’m taking his word for it, but what a story to come up with if not lol
actually i didn’t have anything better to do on Halloween night 💯😎
I think a star wars hotel video would do pretty well if it's not wort the price because people love to hear that things out of their budget aren't worth it. But if it's actually cool people probably won't want to hear about it. Personally I'm not a huge star wars fan but I am interested in the technology behind it and all that? So idk. I'd watch a video on it, but I'm sure you have other video ideas you could devote that time to that cost considerably less.
I have to admit, I am quite curious about the Star Wars hotel, and I trust you to give an honest and thorough review! I am really curious about evermore too, because it seemed like a cool place I'd love to visit someday, so I'd love to hear your perspective on both.
I feel the Halloween spirit!
Also you should go to Star Wars hotel!,
I hate bad horror movies and I was definitely not going to watch one just for the audio commentary, so I'm really glad you went this direction with the video. I was also lowkey spooked by how the first 3 things that showed up were cute ghosts, a spider and a dark ride, all things you've talked about before and said that you like lol. The only disappointment was the lack of a Pumpkaboo plush in frame :( Imo if the Star Wars Hotel was that expensive you should absolutely make a video about it to make some of that money back, idc if the review is harsh (in fact I think most people will prefer it that way). I'm personally interested in it since it's such a crazy thing that like, exists and can be experienced.
I'd love to see a Star Wars hotel video, and it's your money, you can do whatever you want with it! If you're feeling guilty about giving that much to a corporation, though, you might consider uploading the video as a fundraiser, perhaps to an organization in the Orlando area (which has a high poverty rate), to help out the community more directly than by paying Disney a bunch of $$
Ok, so far I've only listened to the updates so far because I just finished lots of university work thoughts and it's really late in my time zone and I have to get up early lol so here are my thoughts: a) I'm 100% down for the Beanie Babies video. This whole thing how it started sounds really interesting. Also, I've heard there was a big controversy with the inventor Ty Warner? Something about tax evasion? I didn't fully understand what was going on. Anyway, really looking forward to understanding this whole thing once and for all. I think there's even an upcoming movie about Ty Warner somewhere called "Plush" lol (https://www.indiewire.com/2020/12/2020-black-list-best-unproduced-scripts-1234604589/). b) Not that related, but I have a recommendation for a good fun Halloween movie- Existenz, the ultimate pro gamers movie lol. It's clever, funny and like super camp. If you enjoy stuff like Edgar Wright's comedies and satire stuff like Red Eye and Evil Dead 2 then you'll enjoy this one. Probably the most fun I've had in a while from watching a movie. It's also probably my 3rd fav movie from David Cronenberg after Dead Ringers and Eastern Promises which are like dark serious and depressing dramas lol. Wasn't really the reason I suggested Cronenberg as a ramble topic. I was more curious to hear a hot take on his famous body horror stuff because I myself have mixed feelings on stuff like The Fly and The Brood. But anyway, Existenz was really fun, Dead Ringers and Eastern Promises made me feel horrified and depressed and I enjoyed all 3- that's all I have to say about Cronenberg lol. There's an obscure unfulfilled project from the maker of Avatar I found online that I wanna submit as a ramble topic that might relate to a motif of the ramble videos... c) **The Star Wars hotel**- hmmm... I thought about this for a bit. When it comes to harsh reviews that I really enjoyed watching I think about hbomberguy's RWBY review and Yhara Zayd's Skins videos because they explore the history of what they talk about, they talked about really important stuff like over sexualizing teenage characters and misrepresentations of groups and issues and they explained their passion and their experience without acting like a victim of a real personal tragedy (or like start yelling and being too hyperbolic like the angry reviewers). I've never seen RWBY or Skins, and I feel like those videos were really informative and fun. I don't really know that much about the Star Wars hotel. But I do really enjoy learning about places and things I haven't heard before in an interesting and entertaining way (aka why I watch your content). And the video might be a great idea to explain whatever the hell the Disney World Genie service is supposed to be, explore the shady stuff and how Disney handled their guests and CMs during Covid. My suggestion would be to go and give this a chance if you think this is a worthy topic (and as long as it doesn't kill your finances), but don't talk too much about this publicly or announce the visit on twitter because that would just gain bad faith attention. Maybe you can actually do this like you did with some of your other videos and wait a while after you come back. Wait a few months and see if your prediction about the hotel- that could be really interesting. This can actually be a really great spiritual sequel to the Star Wars land video. You know what this gets my vote!
I don't know how universal this is but the apartment building I live in doesn't allow kids to trick or treat the apartments. Outside pandemic times there is a table at the lobby where people can get candy but the kids have to go to actual houses to trick or treat.
This was such a fun Halloween ramble 🎃 The Star Wars Hotel sounds like a real catch 22, I understand the apprehension. I guess part of me wonders if not going would be something you might regret more, in that 'its a transitory experience that may vanish pretty fast' way that theme parks can have. But the cost... I looked it up just now and. Yikes. Also the Efteling grimoire sounds so neat!! Are you considering doing a fairytale framing device in the video using it, like in the old Disney movies?? :D
If you're wondering about a Hallmark-ish movie, maybe the Christmas Prince 3? I know it's Netflix but I'd like to know your thoughts on the next film in the saga
why in gods name are they making ANOTHER one (don't answer that)
My favorite part was around 10:53 when Daphne's nose gets extended, and Jenny is unimpressed.
The mention of Diane Duane reminded me of The Wounded Sky - her star trek novel that features a giant glass spider as a main character. There's a touching scene where she talks about how much she misses her husband since eating him.
Hopefully it's okay to give my $.02 on the Star Wars hotel dealio: I feel like it's a lot of investment for nebulous return. I feel like you run the risk of earning their ire no matter what opinions you have about the hotel, plus it sounds like you're orders of magnitude more excited to go to the European theme park, so I think that, since it sounds like you're putting more stock into going overseas, investing the money into that instead seems like a more rewarding option.
> hopefully you're doing something fun on Halloween and not watching this 💀 why ya gotta call me out
Totally get your apprehension about the Star Wars hotel, although honestly I don’t think there’s a way to navigate this without someone interpreting your decision in the most uncharitable way possible. Going and giving it a harsh review would probably upset the group of people with the most indefensible position though lol
Re: the Lifetime/Hallmark movie video idea, I'm just going to throw this out there. There's this company that makes Lifetime/Hallmark movies, but Rated R, called Passionflix. Like imagine a Kathy Ireland Christmas movie on The Hallmark Channel, but with cursing and sex. That's not an exaggeration, they have actual Christmas romantic comedies complete with F bombs and boobs. The sets, Canadian actors, Canadian locations, production values, editing, and music are pure Lifetime, just not stripped down to be family programming. It's kind of fascinating honestly, and I was surprised when I first heard about it. They don't have that many movies, and apparently it's now available as an addon channel with Prime, so it's easily accessible. It might be ripe for some sort of video.
I love this idea. I always thought it would be funny if there was a sex scene in an otherwise G christmas movie. Just complete tonal shift. And maybe when they wake up in the morning they see zombies are attacking them.
If you need a Lifetime/Hallmark style movie suggestion for a possible video I HIGHLY suggest Christmas Wedding Planner. It's gets really buck-wild.
I thought that said "christmas wedding panther" and I got so stoked for whatever that movie would entail
Very fun ramble! I feel like if it was me trying to decide whether to cover SW hotel I would ultimately land on going there for fun (not for work/content) and then make a video about some other slightly more political topic to kind of like. Ethically balance.
thank you so much for fixing the audio levels - couldn't watch the last one but this one was SO good. also please go to the star wars hotel and roast it; it's an honor 2 help pay for that (like one glowing drink lol)
Thank you for making this video!! I’m stuck in bed today recovering from my gender-affirming surgery, but this brought me some good Halloween spirit as I laid in bed and ate ants on a log and orange soda (cuz pumpkins). I would love to watch a Star Wars hotel video, I really hope you make it as I’ve been so so curious about what it is actually like 🎃
Congratulations and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I'm definitely interested in seeing vid on the star wars hotel, there's no way I would actually go... but I am intrigued
I started the last book of the young wizards series today, so the mention of it threw me for a loop! she stops doing the thing where she kills off the fun sidekicks after the 3rd book, but i agree it's pretty lame
I can’t say that there are any videos that Jenny could do that I wouldn’t watch 1000 times. That’s just where I am in my life right now. But I do want to see the Beanie Babies vid. And the Star Wars hotel vid. And god I cannot wait for the Evermore vid. But yeah, one vote for the Star Wars hotel video
Fingers and toes are crossed for an eventual Beanie Baby video, but all these ideas sound great
I know nothing about Star Wars Hotel but the fact you can have a full-on vacation to Europe for cheaper is insane.
Huge improvement in the audio levels, it's so much more listenable and easier to hear you, thank you for that! You could maybe even lower the movie volume a bit more, and just replay any parts where you think the dialog is important enough that we really need to hear it clearly. Love your commentary videos.
The UK doesn't care about Halloween and I got flu, scoob ramble woohoo
Jenny: I hope you're doing something fun for Halloween and not just watching this video. Me: *mostly spent Halloween cleaning my house and am now settling in to watch this video*
I am so curious to see what experience is worth that much money. I hope you do go and make content about it.
Jenny's bang on about the Doug Walker effect on basically everyone around my age. I ran face first into it the first time I tried to record myself.
as i am just sitting in my house with the candy bowl outside, watching through the window to see if i get any trick or treaters...this is an excellent halloween treat
Excellent video. My opinion about the Star Wars hotel: do it. Go, experience it, film it, make content out of it. People will watch, if just out of curiosity alone.
"There is nothing funny about Halloween. This sarcastic festival reflects, rather, an infernal demand for revenge by children on the adult world." - Jean Baudrillard
Let's be honest, Goblin King is no Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost. The hex girls musical number still slaps.
On the topic of the Star Wars hotel: If I was your friend or even like an amicable acquaintance, I'd be saying "No! DON'T go to that! Why would ANYONE?" BUT as a content-consuming audience member who is NOT your friend, I'm instead insistent on being the devil on the other shoulder, you know, cackling menacingly and whatnot. Because I want to watch that video, and I'm okay with YOUR money being used to manifest it. Please, Jenny, make the wrong decision. For the FANS.
My neighborhood doesn't really celebrate Halloween so this video definitely put me in the mood, thank you! I'd really love to see your take on the Star Wars Hotel so if you can go please do.
"If I saw that I would hit it again" damn Jenny
I think a harsh review is what it should be! Once the Star Wars hotel opens, there’s going to be hundreds of videos showing off all the Easter eggs and cool perks, but they’re going to gloss over everything else. When I want to see a review, I want to see it all, not just an extended advertisement
I think if you're this worried about the star wars hotel being good content, and this worried about how people will perceive it (especially with so many assholes on Twitter intent on interpreting all your actions in as bad faith as possible), you shouldn't go. Especially since, at least from my perspective, you don't even seem all that excited about going. Your biggest priority should be making the content you *want* to make. Star Wars Hotel Video shouldn't be the next Endgame video, where you feel obligated to make it because you spent all that money.
The video unfortunately doesn’t exist at this time
Please go to the rich space villain hotel. I know that I’ll never have the budget for it and I’d really love footage/opinions from a theme park enthusiast.
i think the star wars hotel sounds like a cool experience to be able to go to opening month
i do think a star wars hotel video would be interesting because there's thousands of people who want to know what the experience is like but can't go whether because of geography or cost or whatnot. going into it fully aware of the absurdity of being able to fund the trip would help ground whatever content you might choose to make from it.
I would love to see your Take on the Scary Godmother movies. The Animation is bizarre, but the Halloween atmosphere, characters and the writing are all incredible and still enjoyable into adulthood.
Oh my glob you just unlocked memories I forgot I had
i remember watching this on cartoon network and i couldn't stop saying goblin oogie boogie
If you do a video over any Christmas movie, it should be the third Vanessa Hudgens clone Christmas universe
Yes! I love those movies! Also, if Vanessa Hudgens played three versions of Sunny Starscout in the new pony series it would be the best thing ever.
I am super intrigued about a video on the Star Wars hotel. Also, the Beanie Baby video sounds like it will be amazing so I'm glad to hear you're still planning to make it eventually.
Yessss to a Star Wars Hotel video
Had to pause at the mention of Diane Duane’s Young Wizards series. I thought I was the only person who read those lol. I read 1-8 or 9 and stopped when I was in high school. The cute sidekick dying thing stopped after the first three or so books, and the series is pretty solid overall. I think she’s since updated them to reflect current technology.
Me too! They were my favorite growing up, and they really hold up! (Except for A Wizard Alone. When she did the update, she rewrote large portions of it to be more reflective of our current understanding of autism but I'd say it's still pretty iffy re: harmful tropes.) I read the millennium editions recently, and I really think the cute sidekick dying only happened in the first book? There's death in the other books but it's not really cute sidekick characters except the first time.
Awesome video! Also just to make sure you know: We in The Netherlands do not eat horsemeat.
Star Wars hotel review would be amazing!!! I would love a breakdown of the experience
I'd definitely be excited for some Diary of the Dead content. When that movie came out, I tried to watch it as an actual horror movie, and I just couldn't do it.
not to extol the virtues of sweet street too much but they also have these amazing gluten free brownies- they're so good I used to just shove three in my purse whenever my college served them
"are they going to an island?" now shaggy is trapped in a island with scooby doo
There make be goblins.
at some point you blinked and there was a "BINK!" sfx and I thought wow this is getting pretty rich, production values wise, but i think it was just a serendipitous synch with the scooby doo. but if there was actually a single sfx for your blinking and you snuck it in there and did it only once, yashir koach!
I would love to see a Star Wars hotel video!! Esp after your tweets about Disney Genie… I want you to be harsh with Disney lol
Regarding the Star Wars hotel, I'd be interested in what it's like in a "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" kinda way. I think it'd be funny to see you review it in-character as a 0.1% Naboo royalty type. The only path forward is to lean into the indulgence 🙌
i am indeed not doing anything fun for halloween
This was amazing thank you Jenny! I would love to see Star Wars hotel content. As someone that will never be able to afford it myself, seeing it through your point of view would be cool, and I know we can trust you to give an honest assessment of the experience.
I would love videos on beanie babies and star wars hotel! when talking about the star wars in particular, people will always have opinions on how much money you should spend. but I think reviewing it would be super interesting.
as a dutchie im so hyped for efteling content
I went once as a child with some family friends (one of whom I visited recently to meet her newborn boy and as I'm typing this I'm realizing he's closer to our age at the time of that visit than we are now, truly the unending march of time is the spookiest scare of all) and I remember not much other than the bins being themed and pretty frickin' whimsical. I almost booked tickets the first time De Efteling was mentioned in a ramble (I think it was right after De Efteling poll option failed to win) but this second mention has really lit a fire under me. I think I know how I'm gonna spend my birthday in 2022.
Evermore and Beanie Babies are still the ones I'm more interested in.... But whatever order makes sense for you is what you should do.
The scrappy doo stand getting absolutely obliterated makes me believe the creators are self-aware.
i'm amazed that you picked a film without knowing the contents and it contained not only a spooky theme park but also a ghost train.
It's a Halloween miracle!
I assume its on Vimeo for the same reasons as before?
as a reluctant scooby doo fan (somehow i've seen literally every single scooby movie) i'm telling you please don't waste your time watching all of them
As a massive, non-reluctant scooby doo fan who has also seen every single scooby movie...I concur.
I'm only 6 minutes in, and I already love that Scooby and Shaggy upstaged this magician for seemingly no reason, haha.
I am one of the people who can't handle gore and when I saw the poll, I kind of wrote this video off for myself. I can't put into words how appreciative I am that you went with a Scooby Doo level of scare.
Yessss right on Halloween your timing is scary good!
does anyone know how to change the video speed on vimeo?
just click on the little gear icon on the player - that should do it!
