I really liked this! You did bring a new take to this and I learned new things! Love it
I think behind the bastards called it a libertarian water park in their episode but I don't remember if they had anything of the guy talking politics. I think it was just like, intentional or not, this is how a libertarian would run a water park. One thing I do remember them covering was that the park served alcohol and brought the same free-wheeling attitude to checking IDs. Which definitely contributed to some of the injuries.
omg manteca waterslides closed in part because of osha regulations for worker safety lol
Comedian saying "Even though I was scared to do those rides, I fucking did 'em. There's also a part of me that's like, 'If you can't do 'em, fucking get out of Jersey." in the Action Park doc, right after the clips of the grieving family, was craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy. I honestly feel bad for her she def didn't think she'd get edited that way. what bad editors
The coolest thing about action park is that most of the park is still there but closed. Skiing down some of the slopes you can see the Tarzan swing and other defunct attractions
Bet Jenny loved the movie action park w Johnny Knoxville 😂
ok but the waterpark i went to growing up was (and its still open and like this as far as i know, i was there a couple years ago) enchanted forest in the adirondack mountains, and it does have some really charming theming with a whole section of the park that is just like themed after different classic fairytails, there are little buildings all around that you can step into and there will be a little display with a very crude, simple animatronic of a character and a speaker telling the story. some of them creeped me tf out as a kid but i find them really charming as an adult. i will say that the rides themselves arent very themed, though. OH AND i dont know if they are still there but they did have a western-themed restaurant with an animatronic band that would play on stage, i hope theyre still there i need to go back ;-; </3
CRANK IT
ive been on my fair share of alpine slides and ive only seen concrete troughs,
Worth mentioning that some of us follow you and no other forms of theme park stuff so I definitely always need a quick explanation
I loved great wolf lodge magiquest!!!!! It's so much lamer compared to an actual magiquest main location though because it's just sparse little animatronics vignettes in the middle of otherwise nondescript hotel hallways. No immersivs themeing so it feels a little silly how spread out it is. I went to the big magiquest location in myrtle beach and it was lowkey the greatest day of my little child life. Kind of devastated to just learn it was demolished several years ago :(
unrelated but i love ur pfp
It’s so validating to have someone share the weird feelings I had about the Class Action Park documentary. They really did show us a family reeling from the tragic death of their teenage son only to switch up the music and end on people being nostalgic for the park and reminiscing about the good ol’ days when water parks didn’t need boring stuff like “regulations”.
yeah a very poorly executed doc, definitely seems like it was inspired by the comedians (the "talking heads") and their nostalgia for the experience — knowing it was super unsafe — and they certainly didn't... thread the needle.
I’m late to this one because I’m a new patron but I’m a local to Action Park and felt like I should share lol. Both of my parents worked there at its peak. My mom hated it because she was constantly being sexually harassed by guests. She would get calls from lawyers for years afterwards concerning the deaths that happened there even though she didn’t witness any. My dad hated the documentary because he thought the talking heads were posers who didn’t even hang out with them when they did the crazy stuff lol. I don’t know anyone who actually goes to the water park ever, although I did go zip lining there as a kid. The ski resort is very popular though.
Do most of Jenny's viewers really know so much about theme parks? I usually have never even heard of the things she talks about, so any kind of explanation from her is always very welcome :D Probably largely because I live in Europe
All of my theme park knowledge is from Jenny...
playing great wolf lodge magiquest with my brother is one of my fave childhood memories. we didnt even pay for a wand, we found someone's lost guide booklet in the lobby and followed the story through that, and would lurk around each touchpoint until someone with a wand came to activate it. running around a hotel unattended by our parents but still feeling safe the whole time. so awesome.
Magiquest was literally what came to mind when Jenny was describing what she thought the galaxy’s edge gameplay should’ve been
“Cocaine can’t explain this” is a wild way to downplay the dysfunction of a theme park’s management
Wow, I can’t believe you did a video about Action Park! Chris Gethard was a part of the documentary about it, Class Action Park, which was on HBO. It was incredible. Excited to watch this!
Ok, just got to the point where you talk about Class Action Park. I’m so fascinated by your perspective and that of many other commenters. I’m realizing that the doc probably was better suited to other Gen Xers, like myself. I can see how later generations could see that the creator of the park was not sufficiently portrayed as a selfish and dangerous person. For me and my friends, we absolutely were and are horrified by how the park was run and how little justice was offered the suffering families. To us, it was a revealing and troubling documentary about how our childhoods were so dangerous and unprotected. But I’m very interested in this phenomenon of perspectives. I’m very glad we began to watch your take on this matter.
WHAT does Jenny’s shirt say 😭 idk why but it’s driving me crazy and I need to know
I hate that you mentioned this because now it's driving me crazy too 😭. I just know it's a reference to Snorri, the mascot of a water park in Germany. EDIT: I FOUND IT! It says "Time to make a splash"
Of course you mouse squeaks. It's a mouse. Duh
Someone else may have already pointed this out but in Canada "Swiss Chalet" is a chain of chicken restaurants (in my opinion bad, terrible chicken restaurants with nasty sauce) so whenever Jenny says Swiss Chalet my head would pop up and I'd be confused for a moment why we're talking about chicken restaurants
I know this bc of Margaret Atwood lol
My parents went there went they were younger - they remember going on that rugged tunnel water float turning zigzag and then being spit out and dropped “at least 5ft”. One worked at Six Flags Great Adventure and the other as a camp counselor - they knew it was unsafe and barely went on anything because ‘it felt some guys hit the lotto and made This in their backyard”. Oh and just for flavor - my dad went there with all of the Great Adventure staff one day they called it ‘offsite learning’ lol. Apparently they stopped to give some construction workers beers on the way up while stuck in Jersey traffic.new patron long time viewer - great video Jenny!
Does anyone remember that Johnny Noxville movie that was sorta a parody/pastiche of Action Park? Where he just got hurt a bunch or something, did anyone watch that
I watched that movie with my mom because I didn’t know it was a knoxvill project, ngl I’ve had better ideas 😭
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was left with a sour taste after the Class Action Park doc. You just spent an hour telling me about horrific child death and injury and a rich man refusing to pay anyone for the harm he caused and then you ended it with some Gen X 'our childhood was so much better' bullshit. People died! Your childhood wasn't better, you're lucky to be alive.
"The guy who ran this broke a lot of laws, I guess" yeah, that tracks, he's a wallstreet flunkie
This will probably be buried, but if you ever want to go to one of the two remaining Great Wolf Lodge locations that have the animatronic show in the lobby I can get you in on a friends and family discount. I work in the department in charge of the kids entertainment and character appearances and I’d be happy to hook you up! Our clock tower show is not in the best shape anymore, but it’s the only one that’s still around that plays this particular version of the show, the only other one plays an older version at the Wisconsin Dells lodge. Ours is also still running the older legacy version of Magiquest instead of the fancy new versions so it still has the ancient character models lol
I feel bad you feel like you need to present a bunch of research, I’m happy just hearing your thoughts and opinions or ideas of what it could have been or what it would be like today.
My mom went to action park as a kid and took a 10 year old me and my cousin when it reopened, I can testify that people still got injured. We went on the 18 foot cliff jump and were instructed by to do nothing other than a pencil jump, the kid right before me didn’t and landed flat on his face and was taken out on a gurney and was described to us as ‘temporarily paralyzed.’ The mooville family or whatever it is continues to leave a stain on the health and well-being of children today I also curse them. Just don’t have a cliff it’s actually so easy to not let children jump off cliffs.
There’s a “don’t make a mountain out of a Mulvihill” pun in here somewhere
I would give you all the money in my bank account to go to a Great Wolf Lodge and do a 4 hour hotel review á la the Star Wars Hotel. it's not a ton of money but you can have all of it
great wolf lodge is so fun while also doing my family so dirty! not sure what there is to be said, tbf, but hearing jenny unpack the lore would be therapeutic lol
“That one Haunted House where the guy just beats you up” WAIT WUT
its called mckamey manor and its basically just signing a huge waver to get tortured. like he literally waterboards you and makes you eat worms and the safeword to stop is like "im a little bitch who couldnt handle big daddy mckamey" and even if you say it he will maybe just ignore you and keep going. it lasts like eight hours long. its literally insane
i'm watching the star wars hotel video for the first time and i'm flabbergasted that the great wolf lodge magiquest experiences i had 10+ years ago were so much better in every possible way than the star wars gameplay. if magiquest is stil anything like it was back in my day i think it would be worth it
I was an aquatics supervisor at Great Wolf Lodge for a few years, and in general, I would advise against it- the water was kept pretty clean bc of the chemicals, but at least when I worked there a few years ago, we really struggled keeping enough staff to be able to clean the waterpark, which was not just exclusive to our department. We were consistently cleaning, but on busy days, there were so many messes made by guests that we weren't able to keep up, given our staffing concerns. From what I heard from other managers/saw on at least two occasions from helping other departments, room inspections suffered too, meaning rooms were turned over to new guests without a staff member being able to thoroughly inspect/clean the room. I've been gone from the company for awhile, but my previous manager told me that the lifeguards completely failed their last audit, so if you go, exercise caution. The theming is cool though and does extend through some of the waterpark, though it's mostly that the pools have fun names and the restaurants are themed (but the smaller details like the bathrooms at my location were just normal bathrooms and the wall art was just clouds).
Big Bear, CA still has an alpine slide like that. Tried it out only because I saw it on the Class Action Park documentary. It was, in fact, as scary as they make it out to be.
Hey Jenny. I worked at great wolf lodge as a lifeguard for a while, and I’m here to tell you that they can be quite gross. I like water parks and it is rather fun, but they serve alcohol at the park, which leads to a lot of drunk parents treating the park like a daycare center
I've heard that this is a problem with water parks in general and that it's been getting worse, with parents just not watching their kids at all because they expect lifeguards to function like daycare workers. It seems like such an incredibly stressful job!
Oh my God, I can’t tell you how happy I am to see the spell book from like eight years ago
I was a former employee of GWL and specifically magiquest and I can say that they've really Disney-ified magiquest recently, redoing all the wands into more basic colorful plastic designs rather than looking like a cool traditional wizard type wand. I think most have a newer game/plot as well and they're retiring shadowquest/compassquest etc in favor of the new simpler plot. I would just keep an eye out for locations that might have the older wands / games (if they still exist, idk) as I think they're universally considered better
Also I have like 10000 complaints about how terrible GWL is to work at / as a corporation so I wouldn't personally recommend supporting them but this is literally your whole thing and I respect your curiosity and love for magiquest and it may just be my location idk
The only thing I remember about my childhood trip to GWL is the incredible Magiquest experience
Jenny reacting to Filian reacting was not on my bingo card
No one is mentioning the great documentary Class Action Park I believe it is on netflix
she mentioned that like fairly early on in the vid and actually criticized it for its lack of scrutiny toward the owners of the park
I'm sorry was that the same witch book that I unironically bought from Earthbound in 2017
I hope Jenny knows about the extremely weird animatronic show that was at GWL. everything else there was basically fine
omg we have the same name Hi
I live in NJ and went to this park as a kid after it was renamed to Mountain Creek! They still had the cliff jumps and the Tarzan swing, I remember feeling like there was nothing safe to do 😂 never went back. It’s still a popular winter skiing spot and catering/event space though, so thank you for this background info!
I grew up in the area too and a kid in my fifth grade class died at Mountain Creek. This was 20 years ago so hopefully it's safer now.
I appreciate you trying to make the best of a premise that your heart wasn't in, but the result ends up feeling like I'm paying a small donation each month for VERY half-assed commentary. I would have subscribed to your Patreon to support you regardless of these videos, but I'm still taken aback at how low-effort your takes on many of these end up being.
What a prickish comment
I would also recommend the Behind the Bastards podcast episode on action park, it’s glorious.
RUMOR HAS IT that Universal Studios Los Angeles will have a new ride for Halloween Horror Nights 2025: Rooftop Reverie, an Elisa-Lam-themed "waterslide" that is mostly a sensory-deprivation tank.
is this supposed to be a joke about a real woman who died tragically
worked at a waterpark as a teenager where a guest broke their neck on a specific corner of a rapids ride and their solution, instead of fixing it, was to put a guard there to catch people as they came hurtling towards it. lot of guards got hurt working that corner. waterparks are so freaked dude
I love Krakky (sp?) - where is it from? It's been staring into my soul the whole video with its hypno eyes
That’s Kraki from the French waterpark Aquascope!
I don't know how to get this to Jenny's attention but just so you know, OPPOSITE WORLDS CAME BACK, KIND OF, it's actually on Chilean TV (apparently, the original show is chilean and ran in 2012!). There’s clips on their instagram: mundosopuestos13
There’s no way Jenny isn’t working on a theme park book…
It’s so funny you bring up great wolf lodge because in your Star cruiser video whenever you were talking about the physical and virtual interactive element you want I was metaphorically yelling at my screen ‘you want great wolf lodge!!!’ I liked the water park as well but the part I still remember is magiquest and running all over the hotel with my brother and our wands, pointing at everything we saw to see if it would move (and most of the time it did!) I think you would have a great time going and just never entering the water park itself.
once on a trip to Austria as kids we visited a park that had an alpine slide that I'm pretty sure was the same style since one of my brothers totally flipped his cart and got massive road rash down one of his legs and arm. Think we just kinda wrapped him up and kept on going, he was always the sibling to get hurt doing reckless stuff..
“THE PITS OF HELL” got me so bad in the middle of a silent office omg Jenny!!!!!
The bathing suit and helmet combo is great. America is awesome, sometimes lol
Great wolf lodge was fun and the hotel itself has a lot of cool special effects infrastructure and also my whole family left with strep throat.
Can't believe I can cross "Jenny-Fillian crossover" off my 2025 Bingo
‘Tis peak, Jenny. Thank you for providing humor and critique without needlessly dissecting actual tragedies. We come for the laughs and unique insights, but we stay because of your continued empathy and integrity.
Just checked the Wikipedia thing - the next source after that claim is the book "Skiing in New Jersey?" by Elizabeth Holste and I did a command F for "Worlds Fair" through the book on Google Books and found it. "Most of the original furniture in the Great Gorge South's base lodge came from one of the exhibits from the 1964/1965 World's Fair" - page 76. Seems to be a pretty amateur book (the full sentence had a typo in it) but there are citations at the back ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Awww Manteca Waterslides. I grew up in Manteca and out parents would drop my sister and I off there with our friends for the day. A long while back they shut it down and built a neighborhood of homes that look like California Pizza Kitchens. Since then, they've built a Great Wolf watepark in Manteca so I guess the kids still have a water park to go to.
Me: Swiss Chalet Ramiel isn't real. Swiss Chalet Ramiel can't hurt me. Jenny:
Thank you for the videos Jenny! And have a wonderful summer and try to relax a little too! Lots of love from nor cal
Despite being a fan of Defunctland, I guess I missed their episode about Traction Park...that said, Jenny could read out an article from a magazine that I just finished, and I'd still find it entertaining
I can verify that even with the helmets, the tube ride still hurts lol. Last time I went was pre-Covid and it was free if you lived in the country and brought a canned good to donate. My parents sound exactly like the talking heads in the doc whenever it gets brought up. And my mom loves to show off her scar from the alpine slide. Idk maybe we can blame lead poisoning? lol
Does anyone know why the patreon video player is working on mobile but not on my Mac? I can play the sound but the video is black, there’s no visuals. It works fine on the Youtube link and the video player works fine on my phone, but it’s weird that it won’t play the visuals on my computer. It’s not just this video, it’s all of them. Anyone know how to troubleshoot this?
Hey Jenny, your YouTube channel you use for Patreon content mirroring is marked for kids, disabling some features. Was this on purpose? Thanks!
She's talked about it before. It is on purpose so that people can't save them to playlists and see them from there.
I had to pause and leave for work right after I got to the Manteca water slides jingle and I had it stuck in my head for hours. That’s some good marketing, too bad the park is dead
Adding to the canon: Behind the Bastards did a great episode on this park (and the guy behind it)!
I get the worry that it would be hard to do this video without re-treading the ground that Defunctland did, but having seen that video already I enjoyed the extra info you managed to find and the commentary. and ngl, I think this video is a worthy addition to Action Park media for the line "which sucks, because it'll be hard to build a waterpark in HELL" alone
when I was a kid I went to great wolf lodge and I loved it and the forest which did extend to the pools but im sure as an adult it is gross. magic quest was super fun as a kid but I have no idea what it is like now.
i went last year with my boyfriend at the times family, and as far as i was aware of it seemed pretty clean and we had the time of our lives. so maybe it’s just some great wolf lodges that have the mold and bed bugs and stuff?
I just had a thought Jenny and wonder if it's worth sharing. I love hearing you talk and can listen to you talk about anything... Lately though it does sorta feel like your heart isn't into these and you are having to make the most out of a topic that you don't seem to have much to say about (and I'm finding myself a bit more disengaged too). I completely understand that you have a tier of patrons giving topics and also to vote on topics so it's tricky. What if the patrons who submitted topics had to submit, say, three of them? And then you pick the top one of those three from each person that everyone else votes on from there. Maybe this is asking too much of them, and/or too much of you to go through, I just figured I'd toss the idea out there. I think it would be nice for everyone if you had *some* say in what you're going to ramble about
FWIW I believe that Jenny vetos the *really* infeasible choices, but I think your best-of-three suggestion sounds like a happy medium. As a voting patron I'd much rather choose from a series of topics that Jenny herself vetted for baseline interest, rather than hoping that the winning topic will spark some earnest interest. Sure, it would royally suck to see your favorite option get passed over, but you can kinda tell when Jenny's being thorough out of obligation versus being through out of genuine engagement with a topic
Jenny please can you do a vpd style video but for riverdale? I think it’d come out hilarious and that you’d enjoy making it
*casually requests a 2.5-hour video*
I went to Action Park/Mountain Creek water parks multiple times when I was in middle school! It was during the exact time when they renamed to Mountain Creek, renamed back to Action Park, then renamed it back to Mountain Creek again. I remember, even then, feeling like it was unsafe and sketchy. On the bus ride there (I went on a camp trip) I looked up the water park on my phone and found all the stuff out about the deaths. I remember telling all my friends about it and being really freaked out, lol. But even though we all knew how dangerous it was, I still did the cliff jumping, wave pool, and river rapids haha! I can verify that even in the 2010s, it was still not very safe. People were swimming under us at the cliff diving, and the water was EXTREMELY cold. Like, the coldest water I have ever felt, I could see how someone could go into shock. I will never forget how it felt lol. Then, on the river rapid ride, we all had to wear helmets, and at one point the tube got stuck and we had to pry ourselves free lol. Also, in the wave pool, the life guards had to jump in multiple times to save kids, the water felt very rough. We called it the "grave pool" haha. Also, my dad went as a kid to the ORIGINAL Action Park, and said all his friends left with scrapes and bruises. It's a crazy part of NJ history, and I can't believe the same family still owns it!!
I lived not very far away from Mountain Creek my whole childhood! It was a popular winter and summer destination all around southern NY and north NJ. The ski resort part was pretty normal. But by the time I had gone everyone knew the reputation the place had. This didn’t stop my parents from having my little brother’s birthday there. The rapids is the only thing I remember being specifically incredibly unsafe. No way to be strapped down or secure in the raft, just had to hold on for dear life. I was maybe 15 and had to scramble on the raft to keep my 7 year old brother and four of his friends from flying off into the water. I can laugh about it now but at the time I was terrified one of them would drown lol
The tiny tanks look legit fun and adorable; hopefully a decent park steals that idea. Also, Krakky! 💙💜🩷
i remember the great wolf lodge's magiquest gameplay was full of problems & glitches BUT there was a tree with a face. so that was neat
I went to the great wolf lodge in the poconos. It was fine, I wouldn't go too far out of the way for it
It is so weird to hear Jenny put a curse on my last name. (No relation!! They suck and deserve the curse!!) This park and Chinatown (1974) are the only times in my entire life I’ve heard my last name in popular media. What a legacy
Sorry but it probably will affect you too
You could essentially word for word copy all the info in someone else's vid about this kind of stuff and I would still happily watch it. I prefer videos with a talk to camera presenter; so much so that I often stop a video essay without one after like 5 minutes. It helps me so much to be grounded in the experience, and enjoy the information.
Oh! I actually have something to share. I’ve done the Pigeon Forge Magi Quest as well as one of the Great Wolf Lodge Magi Quest games. The Great Wolf Lodge version is underwhelming to say the least. It was fun when I was 12 but thinking back to it, being an adult would have been really weird. You’re just running around outside of people’s rooms in a largely unthemed area.
Minor point of correction: the metal “alpine slides” you’re referring to are technically “alpine coasters” and are a recent development. I actually believe alpine slides (at least all the ones I’ve been on) are not concrete but fiberglass, facilitating their removal during ski season. That doesn’t mean falling off your sled is pleasant though! I actually have the honor of having fallen off of my sled, going about 100 feet down the track before managing to get back on my sled and cautiously ride the remainder of the track. The friction burns on my elbows and knees ended up being some of the greatest pain I have ever experienced in my life. Fun as hell though!
Loved the vtuber reaction and the slow fade-in of the Swiss Pavilion (but I think the audio on the vtuber one was a little low?). I enjoyed watching this video while donning my Great Wolf Lodge "I SURVIVED THE VOMIT POOL" t-shirt
"I do think he could be described as libertarian, in the sense that he liked to ignore safety regulations, ignore bills that he owed, and launder money." Oh my God, Ms. Nicholson, you missed the perfect joke, which was to add "and harm children" to the end of that laundry list of libertarian ideals.
Jenny play freebird
Manteca has the Great Wolf Lodge (indoor water park) now. We've traveled there from Palo Alto with friends. I wonder if it took over from those water parks?
Definitely a weird topic to handle since there's nothing to add really but I enjoyed the way you went about it, and I really loved the Swiss tangent too
❤️❤️❤️NJ Mention❤️❤️❤️
Fillian jumpscare at 30:20 :p lol, always funny when different clusters of your interest spectrum collide. Thanks for the video Jenny! Cheers!
Fillian Jenny collab when
I might have missed you mentioning but johnny knoxville of jackass fame actually made a movie inspired by action park
While Shadow Cliff sounds lovely from the description, it's name is so deeply nefarious I feel like it should be used as a Goosebumps location
Wow, it turns out Jenny and I have a mutual friend! (Wikipedia) I guess it really is a small world after all.
On the note of greatwolf lodge, I stayed in one recently in southern Ohio and it was actually pretty clean and comfortable. It was one of the locations that still had a (racially dubious) animatronic show in the lobby, we were excited because the website also showed pictures of an animatronic dragon related to magiquest but by the time we got there it had been replaced by a screen which was sad to see. Not sure how many locations still have the animatronic elements but it definitely seems like theyre phasing them out quickly
Animatronics > screens
Alpine Slide note: Öber Gatlinburg, near the Smoky Mountains, their alpine slide was a banked concrete track with loose plastic sleds, and braking was your responsibility. Circa 1990
You’re doing great
I'm not at the voting tier anymore, but it's oddly comforting to know that voters still champion these kinds of topics, where it's not clear what exactly they're expecting Jenny to add to the existing discourse. Great video nonetheless!
It's oddly comforting the voters choose boring topics that make for bad rambles???
I’m surprised at the idea that water parks might be considered too dangerous within the next 100 years. Is there a difference between American and Canadian water parks, I wonder? I never found them all that concerning, and far safer than something like driving a car. Cultus Lake Waterslides is a good example; I don’t think they’ve ever had a single death. And it’s surrounded by big beautiful trees! So is the amusement park across the street (Cultus Adventure Park) which I’d argue is even prettier. I found a PoV of the water park if you’re curious: https://youtu.be/Rne_RhKOYUo?si=efMIUilNVIZlZG0- (the brownness on some slides is just from the paint chipping off I think. I know it looks nasty)
There have been multiple fatalities at Cultus
About them supposedly buying the Swiss pavilion, aren’t those buildings mostly built to be temporary? Like how the Palace of Fine Arts in SF was built for a World’s Fair type exposition but they had to rebuild it when they decided they wanted to make in permanent. So the buildings probably would not hold up well to moving, right?
"Whoooaaaa"
My fiancé and I are in our 40s and TO THIS DAY we will shout, “MAAAAN-TEECA!!!” Anytime we drive through it on vacation. Also yaaaa shoutout Shadow Cliffs! The, like, lake area is still there but the water slides are gone. The hill is still there, though, and you can see lines in the dirt where the slides used to be.
“Swiss foods…like cheese.” Made me smile. Does Random Imagineer feel obligated to consider the potential death toll of their rides? I feel if you included that stat in the blue sky pitch HR would be consulted.
omg snorri!
Woooah I’m from Jersey, and dad told me about going to this place lol. Sooo dangerous but ofc my dad loved it lol.
The colours of this video are so nice, like the pops of bright blue are a visual feast as Jenny rips this family to shreds
She's right, there's something so magical and nostalgic about that old grainy video footage
Jenny, love the video, great octopus, A+, but I really feel like you missed an opportunity to campaign for a complete rebranding and overhaul of the park into Disney's James Cameron's Avatar's The Way of Water-Park's water park. And the massive, dead parking lot across the street could be the theme park for Avatar movies 3 through 8 that are definitely going to be made.
Where'd the Barbie thing go?
Literally as this video went live I was at Kalahari Water Park for a weekend. In general tho, I think as long as you aren't stupid and horse around, a typical water park isn't much more dangerous than your average pool.
This is genuinely the first time I'm hearing of this park! (Maybe because I'm not from the USA)
Hell Water Park and Wave Pool Séance are both going to live in my mind rent free now 😆
Growing up in the Central Valley I never realized Manteca was pronounced that way. I had never heard of this park, and I actually have never seen a Defunct Land video, always meant to, just never got to! I'll have to watch the video on this. I despise water parks though, they seem like an accident waiting to happen, everyone says I'm crazy. Glad I'm not alone.
I’ve never been to a water park even though I have lived minutes away from one for decades. Being out in the blazing sun, walking around wet in my bathing suit, around hundreds of other wet, bathing suited strangers who are sweating, spitting, and pissing into the same water as me sounds like the exact opposite of a good time.
Growing up in the same general area of the east bay as Jenni is so wild. Sometimes I forget but then she’ll hit me with the craziest deep cut of Manteca Waterslides 😂
If you're ever in Denver and are down to pay full admission just for two rides, Water World has two very themed multi-rider tube rides, one based on dinosaurs and the other based on ancient Egypt. They're both a good time and not dangerous, and there is for sure one big T-Rex animatronic that growls at you. There might be more, but I can't remember. Just a heads up though, you'll have to carry a very heavy tube up a concrete hill with your friends in the blazing Colorado sun for both of them. IMO its worth it, but I also love water parks, so I'm kind of biased.
Okay wait, I just re-checked because I wanted to go down memory lane: the theming in both of these are actually pretty top-notch. The dinosaur one is definitely my favorite, though, and there are SO MANY MORE dinosaurs than I remember! Here's a ride-through of both if you're curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1Y0_bGk5oA
Really great job for this bunk ass topic loll
This ramble killed me, it was so damned funny. Keep crankin' away at Barbie!
I cackled uncontrollably at Jenny reacting to a vTuber reacting to a youtube from Defunctland. How do I request a video of Jenny doing reacts to other videos from other vTubers? I saw there was one, the failure of the star worms hotel. How can I get Jenny to react to that? In lighter news... (stahp I can't breath)
Hey I also went to Shadow Cliffs as a child! I remember it mostly being about swimming in a big manmade lake, but I guess there was a water slide or two? I remember being pretty scared to go down one. But I was a sensitive child. Anyway, Shadow Cliffs still exists, but there doesn't appear to any water park attractions anymore. https://www.ebparks.org/parks/shadow-cliffs
I definitely NEED you to go to Great Wolf Lodge for MagiQuest and to see the themed rooms. My family has gone there a ton since I was young and it is fun but like on a way lower level than Disney
Really love the Bo burnham esque reaction to reaction content bit
Traction Park time!
We took our kids to Great Wolf Lodge for years. They loved it. But the whole reason we went was for Magi Quest. It's not nearly as grand as the freestanding MQ in Pigeon Forge, but taken with the water park and other kid-friendly attractions, GWL was basically heaven to our kids until they were about 12 years old.
I almost drowned in a wave pool at 15 so thank god it wasn’t this one!!!!
I really loved the magic book cameo!
If you do go to Great Wolf Lodge, try and go to one of the newer ones with the Legends of Luna show - it's pretty cool and won a THEA
hah that clip was the longest period of time that Filian wasn't screaming in her entire life.
Say what you want, Jenny. At a wave pool seance the planchette always moves.
My mother would go here and she loved it. She said everyone knew it had the most exciting rides
Well... That Manteca water slides song is officially stuck in my head.
class action park haters rise up
Love the Defunctland video and this one; my intro was from this Weird NJ article years ago: https://weirdnj.com/stories/action-park/
Neopets was bought by Scientologists? Hello???
Much like this example it wasn’t as exciting or controversial as people made it out to be basically one of the execs that the original creators (Adam and Donna Powell) sold to was a big time Scientologist but there was very little influence he had on the site in terms of programming. But I wouldn’t put it past Adam tbh my cousin went to Uni with him and last I heard he’s become a weird crypto guy.
The way you feel about the Action Park family is how I feel about the guy who owns the haunted house who just beats people up. Russ McKamey you are my mortal enemy!!!
you might enjoy reckless ben's video series debunking some stuff mckamey manor wants to be famous for :-)
Obsessed with the plush in the corner who looks like 👁️👄👁️
SAAAAME
I loved your reaction to a reaction video, you need to get someone to react to your reaction video of a reaction video.
Hey Jenny, I just took my son to Great Wolf Lodge for his 6th birthday. At least in our experience, it was not riddled with disease. Our room did not smell like mold or chlorine, though it was a good distance from the waterpark area. The theming was pretty consistent throughout the hotel, but did not extend to the water park area, weirdly. It was cute though, and my son loved that he got his own bedroom that looked like a forest. Pic of that here (ours looked nicer than what's in this picture, though): https://www.greatwolf.com/illinois/suites/themed/wolf-den-suite-standard As far as MagiQuest, I would not go just for that, based on what we saw at the GWL north of Chicago. It consisted of running around the two-floor lobby of the hotel and pointing at various objects attached to the wall. Most of those objects would react in a very minor way (i.e. a light would turn on and twinkle for a few seconds). Once you pointed at enough objects, you get to go to a lightly themed booth and play a Wii-like motion controlled video game for a few minutes. It is shocking how long the "running-around-and-pointing-at-things" part takes. If you knew exactly where everything was, it would take a minimum of 5 laps around the 2 floor lobby of the hotel. And I do mean a MINIMUM of 5 laps, if you planned it perfectly. My kiddo was exhausted by the end. The video game thing you play as a reward is fine. My son liked that he got to fight a big scary dragon. But for an adult, it would not at all justify the many trips up and down stairs in a crowded, noisy hotel. MagiQuest also does not deliver on the "themed-attraction" aspect either. The store where you purchase your wand is themed, and the video game booths are themed as well. But again, you spend 98% of your time running around in a cartoonish wilderness themed hotel. It feels closer in line with Smokey the Bear than it does with the D&D-for-kids theming of MagiQuest. Anyway, hope that was helpful. Loved the Ramble, as always.
Jenny reacting to Filian reacting to Kevin was very innovative content
I love the Action Park Ramble merch in the thumbnail
The only thing is cause the park closed before I turned 18, I never got to ride the race cars. I wish there was a race car track for adults nowadays.
I remember when I was 15 and did the Tarzan swing. The water was so cold, that as a young boy my jewels froze over and I was walking bull legged and in pain for the rest of the trip. That was the worst pain I ever felt there.
This was my favorite park of all time. I went there many times a year as a teenager and often would come home with cuts and bruises. It was a blast.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a problem with the Class Action Park documentary, it really did feel like they were too in love with how craaaazy the park was to also cover the actual tragedies that happened there
I sat through the documentary and yeah the “kids these days aren’t wild and free anymore” gen x ego stroking can’t be overstated. I’m now deeply upset I could’ve just watched a defunctland video instead 😭
Jenny, I was hurt in the tank ride lol. I was in a tank and when making a turn my leg was cut on the sharp metal interior — I still have the scar decades later to remind me. I miraculously did not get tetanus. More often, I would man one of the fence cannons that fired tennis balls at the tanks. I know some kids would fire at the employees with the fence cannons if they had to go in and service a tank, but I never did. Honestly.
My senior prom was in a great wolf lodge convention center and i found it deeply unpleasant. this doesn't reflect in any way on great wolf lodge as a themed attraction but it informs MY perspective
did anyone else decide to rewatch the defunctland video on this after watching this ramble, then realize that video is now SEVEN YEARS OLD and then start questioning their own mortality? No? Just me?
I went to Action Park when I was little. I can still remember the commercial, "the action never stops at Action Park."
Fillian jump scare
I’m so conflicted about recommending great wolf lodge because the magic quest stuff is actually so fun and they revamped the whole hotel with more cool fantasy stuff when they added it but when I was a kid on family vacation there we saw a kid die in the waterpark area and it was so traumatizing so like maybe just stay in the hotel if you go 😞
In Columbus, OH the local waterpark was bought by the zoo and became Zoombeezi Bay. It has a very catchy jingle chanting "Zoom, Zoombeezi, zoom, Zoombeezi Bay!!"
Jenny! Instead of beating a dead horse, you picked up the reins from Defunctland and tried to blaze a new trail. I hope those of us who support you can vote for topics you’ll have fun breaking in yourself—those are the rides that leave the best hoofprints. Your Evermore brought me here. I’ve never backed a creator before, but when I saw you chasing that broken theme park dream like it still mattered, I couldn’t turn away.
in my (sparse) memory the wisconsin dells great wolf lodge has pretty good forest theming in their indoor waterpark, maybe enough to scratch the indoor forest room itch but probably nothing dazzling. the indoor waterpark at mount olympus is pretty well-themed with statues and pillars and stuff but their indoor amusement area is an unthemed hangar so points docked for that lol. biggest memory there is getting good churros. i've seen a lot of people saying jenny has to go to the dells and i kind of agree? but maybe more for a takedown of indoor waterpark theming because i'm not sure if any of them would even surpass great wolf lodge level theming
guys im scared we are destroying jenny with the research/editing-heavy rambles, can we do like writing a chill fanfiction or chatting about bored games
Yeah, I'd love to hear her just talk about Hey Arnold or something!
Well, I guess OJ Simpsons wife-murdering water park would be themed at least, so still more enjoyable than Action Park.
Action Park fact that's stuck in my brain forever so now you all have to know it too: They put foam padding in the loop-de-loop water slide to try to reduce injuries. After a little while, guests started coming out with inexplicable lacerations. When they checked, it turned out it was teeth from previous riders, stuck in the padding.
Jenny doesn't like snakes?! Since when?
getting the impression that's more about the idea of randomly encountering a snake in the water but i could be wrong lol
I remember when i was really young i went on a water park slide where it was one of the 4 person floaties with the handles, and i was too light so at one point i was fully flung into the air, but i hung onto the handles and was fine. That feels like it should turn me off water parks but tbh i love them, i think they’re fun. I haven’t been to that specific park in years cus its in a different country, but i watch videos of it sometimes and i really wanna go back
(It’s Siam Park in tenerife if anyone wants my recommendations or to die because they’re too light for the water slide)
I dont know how it would hold up for an adult, but I remember having a blast playing magiquest at the great wolf lodge as a kid.
My hometown Manteca mentioned 🤭 all these years after Manteca water slides closed they opened a great wolf lodge in town
You did your best Jenny, but can we all agree to not request that she cover extremely well explored topics anymore?
Omg I could not agree more with your criticism of Class Action Park, I HATED how it just uncritically romanticized the park and Mulvihill while pretending to be objective and pretending to care about the victims of the park. Like no, Mulvihill was not some kooky Willy Wonka who loved whimsy and ~crAzY~ ride ideas, he was just a horrible and greedy person!
It's amazing how often transparently horrible and greedy men are romanticized as dreamers and free spirits.
Jenny where did you get that cool hat I can't find it anywhere :(
Pokemon Center website but I think in 2019. But I feel like they brought back the same stuff a couple summers so it might come back this year!
Excited to watch this!! Random but I came across this handmade spider etsy https://www.etsy.com/shop/LifelikeSpiderArt and it made me think of your spider vids. Hope you're doing ok!
i've never stayed at a great wolf lodge but i was BIG into magiquest back in the day (can't believe it's still around tbh). i can't speak to the quality anymore, i haven't been there in probably at least a decade, but i think you'd find the integration into the hotel charming.
I haven't properly stayed at a Great Wolf Lodge, but I get the impression that you might have kind of liked it as a kid, but it wouldn't have enough for you to do as an adult, especially since it's only somewhat themed.
not the vtuber reaction lmao
One thing I noticed about AP is how many slide designs were copied by Raging Waters in CA. Maybe they bought the designs from a company but watching the footage I was like "I went on that slide!" Raging waters in the 80's wasn't as crazy as AP but I almost bought it on a slide called Bermuda Triangle. My legs flew up and I basically tumbled down the slide, I was bruised and had painfull friction burns on my feet. The teenage lifeguards just blew their whistles and hollered at me, good times!
Crazy, that place is still open
A parking lot is kind of like a motor world
Just want to thank Jenny for being a good sport about a topic that it seems like she was uncomfortable with. I can't really blame you, because what even is there to say about it? the guy sucked, the park sucked, the family are Jenny's enemy and the enemy of everybody who thinks that fatal negligence in running a park is bad.
I have mixed feelings, in that I think she handled it well, and made some great jokes, but I also think that she should just... be able to veto topics if she thinks they're a problem for her?
I haven't watch the video yet but I am beyond excited because I adore all your theme parks content. Random ask : have you heard of the park Asterix in France ? I would love to know your opinion on it
On great wolf lodge: my family went alllll the time as a kid because they would run insane deals like “half price on weekday nights.” My mom was really anal about cleanliness and if a hotel passed her vibe check, then i would say it had to have been pretty well maintained! i remember the theming (throughout the waterpark but especially magiquest) feeling pretty magical as a kid. i did, however, once get my raft stuck dangling over the drop in the Howling Tornado and had to be rescued by the teenage staff. that was not my most magical moment.
i used to go to great wolf lodge all the time and idk how much theyve kept up the theming, but the room I stayed in had bunk beds and squishy big foam rocks and it was awesome. Looking it up I think it was the wolf den suite. Magic quest was so fun
“I’m also kind of assuming everyone is familiar with this park” Jenny I’ve never heard of Action Park ever in my life before 😂
Beware the rabbit hole! Finding every scrap of information about this Hellmouth consumed me for months.
oh also this is unrelated, but jenny did u know that the Museum of Failure's site has an entry about the Starcruiser, and it links to your video? u should put on your resume that you're endorsed by the Museum of Failure
Very tangentially, all Jenny's Patreons should be VERY wary of The Museum of Death, which has locations in New Orleans, Hollywood, and elsewhere. It sounds cute and cool and edgy, but it is *extremely* depressing, as in hundred-yard-stare-three-hours-later depressing. Maybe See Something Else.
I've never been to a Great Wolf Lodge, but I see ads for them constantly and I always side-eye the slogan. "Strengthen the pack" sounds like either culty corporate team-building or a white supremacist dogwhistle.
the idea is that you enter a family but leave a 'pack'. This is not adequately explained by the slogan. IDK.
jenny describing mulvihill's thoughts killed me djlksjlk thank you that alone made the video worth it
Ride the Devastator at Thrill World
I ain't afraid of no rolly coaster
not to be dramatic but you saying you think waterparks will die out has definitely ruined my day. am i the only girl who loves a waterpark? in the uk we have this holiday chain called centre parcs and they have these amazing waterparks. theyre super safe (from what i know their record is p good anyways) and all the palm trees and foliage is so fun it feels pure tropical. perhaps what themeparks are to you are what waterparks are to me. but i do recognise its a privilege to be able to swim.
okay upon playing further you mention liking indoor waterparks and themes stuff so my days not ruined. luv ya
Thanks for the ramble, Jenny! I hadn't heard of Action Park so I enjoyed your discussion (and your justified seething rage). Good luck with the video, I hope it continues to come together!
Finished the video an hour ago and all that I have been able to hear is the Manteca Water Slides theme song
The no-rails concrete slide sounds like something I went on as a kid in the 90's, the "Great Slide Ride" at Blue Mountain in Ontario, but apparently it's long since been replaced with a much safer/fancier rail track mountain coaster. Apparently the old one was notorious for (mostly minor) injuries but thankfully I didn't know that at the time LOL. Of course, back when it was built (1970's) people were still complaining about having to wear seatbelts in cars, so I guess it's not surprising lol.
That’s an absolutely epic octopus plush 💙🌀
Do you think Ken Bretschneider knows that he's not Jenny's nemesis? That her true nemesis is an entire family in New Jersey?
He also needs to get in line behind Randy Moore.
The alpine slide I went on in New Hampshire in the late 70s (Wildcat Mountain maybe?) slid freely in a trough. I did get injured, but in a very boring way. I was a timid kid and applied the brakes the whole way down, no risk of sailing through the air or anything, but I fell down on a gravel path while carrying the sled and scraped my leg. Actually I think that was before I even went down the slide, at the top. A really nice lady put hydrogen peroxide and a bandage on it.
There's something very funny to me about how Jenny always says, "the 1964-65 World's Fair" (she's done it other times, too). Obviously, this is technically correct, but people always just say "the 1964 World's Fair."
I think that's how the script of my disneyland tour referred to it lol. Whenever I say just 1964 or just 1965 it feels wrong
I don't know who defunct land is, so always believe there's a niche for your content. I'm happy to listen to you talk about theme parks regardless of other content I haven't seen
Here's the time Jenny did an interview on Defunctland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE7UyQceKVc
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a themed water park (aside from general beach/tropical decor), but the water park I used to go to as a kid had a dinosaur-themed dark ride. It was called Voyage to the Center of the Earth, and its story was that construction workers broke into a cave that had dinosaurs living underground. You had to carry the inner tube up a hill to the start of the ride, but you would go past abandoned diggers and other construction equipment, then when you entered the cave, the first part of the caves were rock formations and bats, and then you would pass by a variety of dinosaur statues and animatronics. I’m sure they look super gnarly these days, and the T. rex at the end terrified me as a child, but I loved it.
this sounds extremely fun omg
Re: Great Wolf Lodge ... Yep, it's pretty "You're in the Mountains!" themed throughout. They do a good job with that. Like you're out camping, but in a big complex of buildings. Honestly, if you're into theming, it's sort-of worth a visit just to see a company that's still trying to put effort into theming. But it's also filled with very young screaming children, and it's mostly aimed at that demo. Ours is filled with families that can't afford to drive on the extra 3 hours to Orlando and pay for high-end theming. What Great Wolf Lodge is to me is pretty sad: It's the only place on that stretch of Interstate where you can get real food and the MagiQuest gift shop sells decent fake swords that are good for cons. Being a big fan of the main MagiQuest location in Tennessee, I was super-hoping it would be fun to have a MagiQuest location nearby, but ... honestly ... the MagiQuest installations in GWL are small and terrible. Great roadside bathrooms and restaurants, tho!
I should add that my nieces and I still talk about our trip to the "mothership" MagiQuest location so many years ago. It's one of those things that just sticks with you somehow.
Jenny’s videos are the coziest of cozies, especially the rambles
I did the Great Wolf Lodge MagiQuest growing up (probably around 2010-ish?). It hadn’t been around too long, but I remember LOVING it. We barely played in the water park; we were locked in to MagiQuest. I still think about the end of the quest sometimes 15 years later and I wish I had still had my wand.
Swiss Chalet is a restaurant chain in Canada. I guess you don't see them where Jenny is but "what you picture when you hear swiss chalet" is not actually swiss for many people. Its chicken instead
Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was like "is it related to the restaurant or is it just a broader term?" I wasn't sure if they existed in the U.S. or not.
My understanding was that "Alpine Slide" was specifically the ones where you're in a half-pipe, while the ones with actual rails are called "Alpine Coaster"
Yep, I’ve been to a place with both. I only did the coaster because I was scared of the slide. But the coaster sucked too. You get a hand break, they tell you not to let it go above a certain speed, and you’re supposed to just know what that speed feels like? I don’t want to be in control!
Peace and love, but that guy in the background on the right really freaks me out. His eyes are real haunting.
i grew up doing the alpine slide in keystone and if you've never flown off the side of that thing, you've never gone fast enough
You know, we’d always walk up to the remains of that loop slide and wonder why it was never open. Not really sure how kid me didn’t notice the very obvious problem with the slide, but yeah. Edit: god I forgot how much fun that lagoon was. Top tier place to pretend to be mermaids, you don’t understand. Edit 2: yes, the wait for those slides were about an hour. 🥲
I used to work at MagiQuest at the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord NC! I never stayed there or even went to the water park but magiquest was so fun. (i’m also biased lol but our location has the best magiquest bc it’s the legacy one meaning it hasn’t been updated to the shitty new GWL magiquest)
they kept taunting me telling me they were getting an animatronic dragon and they never did :(
mama an octopus behind u
THERE MAKE BE SNAKES IN THE WATER
jenny i’d never even heard of Action Park until i saw the poll topic, so everything is news to me!!
why were there snakes in the water 😭
Oh I liked very much the jenny nicholsen rant/ramble on this east coast water park!
my parents got engaged at a Great Wolf Lodge and we would sometimes go there to celebrate their anniversary, so I'm a bit biased, but the one we went to was always fine. There was this one slide with a section that went outside of the big glass wall that enclosed the water features, and my siblings and I would pretend we could notice a temperature difference when we passed through it. Not much else to say about it beyond it being a landmark to my parents' love, so ig you should go there if you want to celebrate that
Any Blizzard Beach opinions?
"...they also made an official website for Action Park where they sell merchandise, and the merchandise suuuuucks..." I did not vote for this topic and in fact actively argued against it, but where Jenny took it with the merciless skewering of the Mulvahills (and those OJ analogs, oh my gawd) definitely made it worth it. For Jenny's sake I wish she could have found some concrete evidence of the World's Fair Swiss Village, and I appreciate she spent so much time trying to find it.
I’ve been to the Virginia and Maryland Great Wolf Lodges. I prefer the Williamsburg VA one because the MagiQuest is spread out through the hotel. In Maryland, they put all the MagiQuest stations in the lobby and it was so loud, while people climbed ropes above my head.
I went to Great Wolf Lodge a few times as a kid and loved it. there were 2 dining areas that were both themed, one had a talking moving moose head on the wall, and the other was forest themed and I remember being so pretty. I never played the magic quest game, it was around but my parents didn't wanna pay for it. I think the water park area was also themed but not as strongly. I always liked the rooms too.
I just looked up pictures of the one I went to and it was actually pretty well themed in the water park area. I was just too overwhelmed to remember it as fondly as other parts of Great Wolf Lodge
This family sounds like they could be the subjects of an incredible Succession-esque series
Also FUCK YEAH MANTECA WATER SLIDES I MISS THAT CONCRETE HELL
I understand the hesitation to tackle this topic, given the defunctland video covering it, but I deeply appreciate your take on it. I'm pretty sure a lot of libertarians just have obnoxious circus music in their heads instead of thoughts.
After reading the book “A Libertarian Walks Into a Bear” I’m pretty sure a lot of Libertarians are just sociopaths & narcissists.
All this defunct theme park and ride talk made me think of Buzzy. I would love to see an update on him. I hope he’s not traumatized.
Buzzy update: still missing
Oregon's Mt Hood Skibowl still has an alpine ride like this. It is extremely fun.
You can watch Youtube POV videos of people wiping out on it.
My god. the color scheming in this video is incredible. So much vibrant blue all over
You are likely correct about the park owner's brain, but "herdy-gerdy music and cash registers" also describes what's going on in most libertarian's heads most of the time
I’ve been to a Grand Wolf Lodge for a family reunion, I would say it’s probs not worth it. The indoor forest theme is pretty specific to one room, it’s not in the water park at all. The Magic Quest is the best part, but not worth the visit imo. My nieces and nephews (5-10 years old) had a good time, but it doesn’t hold up as something that adults would have a good time at without kids
Unfortunately no IRL waterpark can compare to Jenny’s pitch for Avatar: The Way of Waterpark (also that hat is a great colour on you)
This topic felt like a Saw trap: "Hello Jenny. You have to talk about a water park that also has been already widely covered by Defunctland. Let the game begin." Lucky for her, she's really funny no matter what, but I was suffering for her. Of course, my fear was unfounded, for she has the Book of Spells!
My brain kept shifting between the background octopus (squid?) being a cute guy with googly eyes up top, and a terrifying squid with glowering red eyes down low merely using the top eyes as a friendly decoy to lure in prey. If user error and horseplay can result in that many deaths, that is still an utter failure of the park for making their attractions horseplay-proof or preventing it to begin with. Not the excuse that guy thinks it is. I enjoyed the footage and comparison of the old and current park, a good addendum to the Defunctland doc imo
I went to Great Wolf Lodge as a kid. had a great time, but even as a kid, the feeling of the indoor water park felt a little freaky (LOVE water parks normally). however, the integrated MagiQuest CAPTURED me. I fought the dragon.
tbh when you said the flipping off crowds and yelling obscenities i proudly thought "yeah that's the new jersey way baby i love us."
I would be totally happy with jenny cranking out a bunch of lazy reaction videos. Her determination to stay honest to her craft is why I respect her so much. I also love that she isn't afraid to start a family feud haha I maybe shouldn't have said cranking out, seems inappropriate.
Water up my Butthole: The Action Park Story
Is that the spellbook from Let’s do real magic making an appearance in 2025???? That’s a real deep cut Jenny
jumping in to echo a few other people's remarks - you are the only youtube creator I watch, so as far as I'm concerned, any video you make is the only one I'm likely to see about a given topic. And in any case, your writing and delivery and editing are always so fantastic that it wouldn't matter to me if I had already watched ten videos about it - I'd still be psyched about yours! I suspect the same is true for most of us here on the patreon too :)
I’m no expert or anything, but I’m pretty sure that’s a really bad shape for a loop. Like, the reason roller coasters went from circular loops to tear-drop shaped loops is because the circular loops put a ton of stress on the passengers. Maybe it’s different for water, but I’m not confident that these guys did the math.
So proud of Jenny for continuing to pursue magic even after failing to end racism with walnuts
Magiquest in Myrtle Beach was awesome- my friends and I were obsessed with it in our early 20s. We stopped at the Great Wolf Lodge in VA couple years after the Myrtle Bech location closed, just to play Magiquest, and it was a huge disappointment. There’s no excitement or whimsy or little kids running around with their parents having fun, just a couple hallways with no decor and a handful of families at a few Magiquest stations. Maybe it’s improved since then, but I can’t recommend it. :( We still have our wands for the nostalgia though!
I did the Smoky Mountain Bobsled as a kid. It was also a concrete trough with a wheeled car that you needed to apply a brake to. They had two parallel tracks that you could race each other on. In retrospect, pretty fucking dangerous.
Instead of Great Wolf Lodge go to the Wilderness in Wisconsin Dels and see Wizard Quest while you are there. The Wilderness is themed water parks and hotel, and wizard quest is a beautiful and unique themed fantasy game. Way more themed than magic quest looks, and there’s only one in the world! It’s really magical.
Does Jenny have the option to veto video ideas? I think she should. Seemed like she didn’t really wanna do this one. Still entertaining don’t get me wrong, but I don’t wanna force her to do topics she just straight up has no interest in doing.
I know she can (and does) screen topics to make sure they aren't against platform rules, but she doesn't take topics out if she doesn't have interest/can't think of anything to talk about. I do think it would make for more interesting vids, but it does kind of take away from the voting process.
"I've never owned a ski resort" this is very relatable
ACTION PARK CONTENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!1!!!1!!!!!!!!
The urban legend Action Park has become is the result of Mulvihill spin. Jenny effectively debunked that. I’ve avoided Class Action Park like the plague. I have a lot of respect for Defunctland but I won’t watch that video either because 45 minutes of any Action Park content is only bearable if it includes Jenny wearing a cute hat 💙. She seemed to enjoy making this video as much as I expected but at least she got to talk about the World’s Fair 🥲
Okay, okay, this is COMPLETELY off topic, but is there any chance Jenny and Co will attend the Brandywine Festival? Seems like it would be an Evermore palate cleanser! And this video was great, I know you said you didn't have new facts to present, but your editorial voice in telling this tale was hilarious
I'm not saying I've done cocaine, but no, it would not make you come up with wild theme park attractions. It might just make it hard to sleep. I'm guessing. Also, Great Wolf Lodge does not have a viable substitute for a plush indoor forest.
cocaine makes you yap a lot and come up with wild ideas at the after-party at 4:30am, then when you wake up the next day hungover you realise you were yapping complete nonsense and the ideas are terrible. UNLESS you keep doing cocaine and then suddenly the ideas are great again. that's where the stereotype of the "coked up hollywood producer" comes from, its literally guys getting high and coming up with crazy ideas and then sometimes getting more high + following through on them
I think what was different about your video compared to others is the focus on your hatred for the mulvihill family and I liked that a lot
Omg I used to go to Shadow Cliffs all the time as a kid. Crazy to hear someone talk about it. And I still remember every single word of the Manteca song!!
Can’t wait for Jenny’s return to twitch as a vtuber reaction streamer!
is shadow cliffs the park that closed for ecoli mussels or whatever crazy thing it was?
We took my little sisters to great wolf lodge in Anaheim year solely for magic quest, very fun game. It’s a cool looking ski lodge theme and the restaurant smells are nice. But I never went near the pools, I have water
I remember reading about people getting stuck in the loop of the loop-de-loop (“Cannonball loop”) waterslide. I don’t think anyone died, but it sounds TERRIFYING.
Maybe it's just being out in a mountain state but when I hear "fed by fresh mountain springs" it translates to, "very likely to give you giardia."
10 eyes, 14 legs. Snoragog, the final form
YEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYE!!! Also, even if you cover the exact same material, it doesn't matter. Because the way you react and talk about things, it's completely unique and enjoyable.
bla bla bla BARBIE VIDEO
my brain knows you're right about waterparks but my heart says hehe slide time whee
I like it when its a busy day at Themeparks and the Jenny gets mean. The way she revealed the owners current pursuits and endevaours was just Chefs Kiss
this video has such powerful energy, I love it when Jenny has ops involved in the video topics
Thanks Jenny, doesn't matter if a million people did videos about it, we're here because we enjoy your take on it. It's unique and we love it! BTW, can Aragog breath? His eyes say he needs help. :o
Okay, I can’t get over seeing someone having to spray a young patron down with an overpowering hose just because there’s no other way to keep water running down the slide. Like I’m laughing, but the German in me is mortified and wants to regulate the hell out of that lol
This is funny because I was even wondering to myself if Germans would find this scary at all since you guys have the giant jungle gyms and those push-button parks with full rides and everything
Oh wow, I remember going to Shadow Cliffs as a kid, but had forgotten completely about it until I heard the name mentioned here.
He wasn’t libertarian—he was libertine! (This sounded like a joke in my head.)
The book of spells and incantations you can buy at Barnes and Noble returns!
The last time I took my son to Great Wolf Lodge was about 3 years ago. I 100% believe it's crawling with disease, but to be fair we never got sick there. I loathe it, child loved it. There is some light woodland theming. We did have to spend about half an hour in the parking lot at 3am due to a fire alarm, which thankfully seems to have turned my son off of the idea of returning.
I assumed colds were a already given since it's enclosed and humid but I also saw some scary tiktoks about getting gruesome skin infections and funguses from the water which freaked me out
omg I never knew about this crazy place 😳 but I would buy a shirt that says "CFS" 😬 also is Snorri consuming Aragog?!
Long time listener first time poster. No this is great, apart from the patreon and youtube this is my only view into the world of theme parks. That sounds like it could be sarcastic but its not.
Don’t mean to be crass? Talking about water parks it’s bound to happen.
I love your beautiful giant blue octopus plushie!
i went to the great wolf lodge in williamsburg with my friend when i was 14, and it was genuinely one of the most fun days of my childhood! i have no idea if it would ever hold up as an adult, but it was such a fun thing for a young teenager, especially because i loved water parks. they had ridiculous desserts too. the pitch was literally 'a water park hotel with a bunch of games and sweets, where you can run around', which was absolutely a dream for me as a 14 year old i didn't catch a disease there but cannot vouch for anyone else lol
Fun fact: I have scars on my leg from an accident on the Action Park alpine slide.
Action Park and its story is something of an effective humbling tool, in the sense that, any time I think I’ve got a great idea for a theme park ride, I think about action park and then I remember I only passed that one college physics class I took because the professor had an absurd grading curve.
As a native NYC kid, my dad took my sister and I to Action Park when they reopened in 2014 because he went there as a kid. I remember the one family tube ride required you to wear a helmet and boy did we need it. The tube would basically bend in half when hitting some of the bank turns. There was also minimal padding on the bottom of the tube so you felt every bump in the concrete slide. I did slightly dislocated my hip on the ride (partially due to a hip issues), but my dad said that I got the real experience. As for the spring water being absolute ice cold… I have never had the wind knocked out of me from pure cold after jumping off their cliff jump.
I flew off an alpine slide once when I was a kid, and this was in the 90s. It was one of those concrete trough setups, as you describe, but very low to the ground. So yeah, I only ended up with a bad scrape and some medium-level trauma.
I’ll have you know the Fox sisters famously conducted their first séance in a wave pool. Instead of one of them tapping their foot underneath the table to signal ghost activity they’d just splash around the water violently.
Come join me on their Loop-To-The-Next-World ectoplasm slide!
“Have you been to Great Wolf Lodge?” Yes! I went like 3 times as a kid (around 20 now, about 10 years ago). I found the water park to be… okay? Not the best trip but pretty good. But this was like, RIGHT when they introduced Magic Quest stuff and I found that really fun. Also the arcade had really cool ambiance, I distinctly remember that the arcade felt very mature/adult, not in like a risque way obviously but just in the sense of feeling classy and high-brow.
30:50 - "I don't like snakes" - Well I hope all those snake plushies from the Black Moon Rising video found a good home, then.
Love the room’s deep dark blue theme, I find it so soothing!!
"My mouse squeaks" uh yeah, I sure hope it does
I am so thrilled you have a Patreon. Always with the high-quality content.
i remember watching Class Action Park when it came out because podcast: the ride had the director on as a guest and it seemed interesting, but i remember thinking it was so freaking crass. i went back to my letterboxd review and i was like “the tonal whiplash was intentional! to convey the high highs and low lows that park guests would go through!” (i was a 19 y/o english major). but in hindsight i was being waaay too charitable. it was also my first ever exposure to chris gethard and i have hated him (perhaps unfairly) ever since 🫠
I lived this park. Everyone I know worked here. There were numerous kids in our school with permanent injuries from it 🤣
It was great to hear you cover NJ! I don't think that Mountainside Park is open anymore, but I do know that Andy Mulvihill was VP of the New Jersey Board of Ed then had the nerve to write an op-ed on what's good for kids. Not drowning them is a start. https://njedreport.com/mulvihill-who-will-ask-what-is-best-for-our-kids/
I went to Great Wolf Lodge in Texas as a kid and loved it. The one in Georgia is totally for babies, though. (Or maybe they're the same and I was just too old for it, lol) I remember in past rambles a secret "furry fandom-adjacent video" was mentioned, is that still being worked on? (It's okay if not, I'm excited for the Barbie tierlist too.) It sounded intriguing.
They just opened a Great Wolf Lodge in my hometown like last month. I don't know a ton of people who've gone but my roommate's workplace had a corporate retreat there (??) and she said they all thought is was really nice. There was one in my college town too and everyone said it was disgusting, so I'm sure once this one gets a few years on it it'll be uninhabitable.
Wow I'm so freaked out right now about the Manteca commercials! I grew up in northern California too, and in my head the older couple saying "Manteca!" with the fist pump was a commercial for the waterslides. So much so that when you started reciting the waterslide commercial, I did the fist pump! And then you showed the RV commercial!! My wires were a little crossed but those commercials are the first thing when I think of Manteca 😄
I think it was like an hour away too so I was never casually in town but whenever I did pass signs for it it felt famous from the ads
Literally rushing home to watch this on the big screen
That waterslide ad from your childhood brought back a lot of memories 😆 I never heard that one, but there was a similar one in my area that I hum all the time and I remember learning thst not everyone grew up hearing that specific local ad constantly.
When I was a kid, I saw that episode of the Simpsons where Homer gets stuck in the waterslide and that scared me from going to one for a good few years… then, when I was a teenager and might have gotten past it, I saw the episode of South Park where they go to the water park and I was freshly scared off them… a few years later, I see the episode of It’s Always Sunny… and now this. Safe to say, I’m never going back to Sandcastle 😂
As a lifelong new jersey boy, I nearly jumped off the couch when I got this notification LFG!!!!!!
i’m sorry if this wasn’t your favorite topic ever since there wasn’t a lot of new info to talk about. i still enjoyed the ramble as always!!!!
I see a fifth Bomberman. Am I going crazy?

Just in time for my 2 hour drive!
A Jenny/DefunctLand collab would be an UNSTOPPABLE force.
They actually did have an episode on Defunctlands podcast! it’s on his Youtube
Omg I love your pokemon hat!!!
Oh hell yes, so pumped for this
I remember going to Action Park in 2005 with my whole family (may they rest in peace). I definitely remember seeing Jenny there and I'm sure many of you guys did too
6:55 - Jenny, it's very normal for mice to squeak.
Hey-OHHHHHH!
As someone who has hyperfixated on Action Park for years, I am SEATED
So proud to know my dad was an action park regular
Action Park is an integral part of Jersey Lore. Like EVERYBODY went to action park and had a near death experience. It’s honestly a miracle more people weren’t killed.
LETS GOOO NEW JERSEY!!! (we’re not proud of this)
Giant Snorri……
I have never been more excited for a ramble. I gasped when I saw the notification
LOVE your hat and the octopus!!!!

I audibly gasped when the notification came through. My family and I have been rewatching the Defunctland Action Park video for years. This is the greatest crossover of my lifetime. I am SAT
