Battlestar Galactica: The Miniseries (part 1)
WHAT?! I went into this expecting it to be good. I had no idea it would be GREAT, right off the bat! I’m so impressed with how this miniseries started. The complexity, the characters, the cost. The stakes were so high and you really felt the weight of this. I can’t wait to continue watching this with you.

Little later to this party but wanted to note that w/ regards to 6 killing that baby as cementing evil. One thing I'd like to note is just how painful dying of radiation poisoning is and generally the suffering that people who survive a nuclear bombardment with no help coming face. Cemented as evil perhaps or cruel mercy knowing what's coming.
Yes, hindsight it does seem likely it was a (twisted) act of mercy from her perspective. This I think is the first true glimpse of the psychology of the cylons which is one of the most intriguing components of the show! Although I do stand by my initial assessment, no better way to show a villian is a villain than having them kill a baby.
I'm late to the party, but I wanted to add that you are asking all the right questions. This is the kind of show that will provide answers to just about everything you were asking. It just takes time.
I don't consider you late, the party's just getting started! Thanks for comments. Really great show so far.
Finally got to watch this! LOVED your reaction. That's exactly how I felt when I first watched the series when it came out. Really, really glad you're enjoying it. I'm still having issues with syncing, sadly. Your copy seems to move just a little bit faster than mine. Every five min or so I have to pause your vid for a sec so it matches up again. I know you said you were going to try something to fix the syncing issue, but I'm hoping you didn't get to this time and it kicks in with the next episode :D
The next one is the first that organically fixes my issue, theoretically. One long time problem I've had when I sync my audio with my video it falls out of sync, so I had been subtly speeding up the audio to make it in sync. I had thought those issues might be connected. Now they are perfecty in sync. I applied the fix to this one, which resulted in me needing to slow down the audio, but I guess we'll know if it worked after the next one! 🤞 If not, I am once again at a loss lol.
This show is so bloody good, I’m so excited to watch with you! I started watching this back in 2005 but was so angered by the baby killing that I stopped. (I had a baby at the time and just couldn’t get past it.) I decided to give it another go several years ago and holy cow, I’m so glad I did. This show is frakking brilliant (see what I did there? lol) and really forces you to grapple with the tough decisions that would be very real in this situation. It’s so good.
Yes, Aimee!! That baby scene floored me a bit. I just didn’t think that would ACTUALLY happen. The show is off to a great start and not jumping right into part 2 has been one of the most challenging things I’ve done. 😅 You have my hyped all over again for the next episode.
For full context, the original Battlestar Galactica from 1978 was a cheesy Star Wars ripoff, which is remembered today entirely due to its unbelievably bleak premise of these 40,000 people being all that's left of humanity, which is entirely at odds with its tone. Then Ron Moore took a look at it and said "You know, there's real potential for a great story here if we actually lean into how dark the setup is." The human Cylons are also an invention of the show, as they were all just robots in the original, which of course adds a huge new element with plenty of story potential as you try to figure out exactly who they are.
Oh that's a great invention of the show! I knew going in that the the girl at the beginning was a cylon, but that completely explains the way it's presented in the show. A very nice inclusion! Thanks for the context.
Yay! Can't wait to start. I remember I didn't watch at first because I HATE when they switch up characters just because. Like sorry, Starbuck was played by a guy and I loved his character when I was a kid. So it put me off, but then I heard it was good regardless, plus, I just freaking ADORED actress Katee Sackhoff in the show Longmire so now I am looking forward to seeing her in this. Guess had I given it a chance I would have loved her sooner lol. Always give something a chance first. Within reason, of course!
See, that's my advantage! Nothing to compare it too haha. However, I definitely get where that probably bugged a lot of people. Glad you're giving it a second chance. I kind of have Katee Sackhoff bias out the gate, so she's frontrunner for favorite character haha.
