It’s clear to me that none of these guys know the purpose of a phishing test. You have to look for specific clues to see whats legitimate. Some of real these phishing emails are not going to look fake and as soon as you click on the link, you company laptop could download a virus which the attacker can now see everything you do. It’s normal to send these emails regardless what is said in the email to see who needs cybersecurity training. If he fires them, he’s wrong but if its just to see who needs training, it’s a perfectly fine and normal thing to do.

I thought it was extremely odd but I was at the firm for about 3 months and a part of me thought this was a real email. long story short, I didn't respond because I was getting ready for work, but while I was getting dressed I got another email from one of the admin saying it was a scam. Today I wouldn't fall for it, but I still think back to what I would have done if I was on my way to work before I found out it was a scam.

I work in corporate and we get routine cyber security training and phishing emails to make sure we stay vigilant because phishing emails are meant to be timely and targeted, like the example Dolan did. A hacker would Phish exactly that, it's not effective if it's not targeted & timely. Hacks are costly, I've worked at companies that got hacked and layoffs happened shortly after. The company didn't last long afterward in total.

The company also test your skill set by sending phishing emails that look 100% legit and all thse who fail have to take an additional course. But a email saying your direct deposit is messed up right before pay day coming from "payroll" is clickable.
