I came to the USA when I was 16 and didn’t know I was black. I grew up never having to say I was black and definitely didn’t have to say I was Jamaican. My very first experience of hate and prejudice was by black American girls in high school. I was confused. It took me a year or so to understand why black Americans were so angry. I had by then experienced racism by white people, police officers and I started to learn on my own, the American experience of slavery. Even though slavery was in the Caribbean, the difference with the American experience is that post slavery is now built into systems. From prison to school to court to lawyers and judges and doctors and teachers. They took off the white hood and became professionals. I see why black Americans want their own black experience and resilience to be respected. I have so so so much respect for black American brothers and sisters but it’s hard to feel the love from them because they are hurt and by right they are and i respect it. They should absolutely get reparations and the land that should come with it. I do believe the FBA AND ADOS creates more hate than it does us fighting together against white supremacy but when fools like this say that bullshit about black Americans, I have to humble and shut the fuck up because again, it’s more reason why they want to delineate. I feel we are better together but post slavery is way to enmeshed in our experiences. I love you guys!
