August Seminar

Hey there, fellow chumps!

August is reaching an end, and I wanted to do a live, vocal seminar with y'all. It will be Friday, August 28th, 19:00 eastern time. All Fothcrah-tier or higher patrons are welcome. As for the content of this seminar? You decide. Put it in the comments of the post, and whatever I see with the most likes/mentions will be the topic(s). If you cannot make it to the live stream, do not worry! It will be posted on Patreon for those same tiers shortly after we finish.

Cannot wait and see you soon!
-Justin

I'm interested to learn about how you distinguish between chest, head, and whistle fry screaming - both in terms of what you do with vocal tract to achieve the sounds, and more importantly if there is a difference in how each feels when you do them.

i’d be interested in hearing where the pitch limits lie for arytenoid distortion relative to your register. also i’d like to know how to control the amount and texture of false cord distortion over your singing voice.

Would be interesting to cover, proper mic etiquette for both live and recording sessions. Vocal Effect chains for recording, gain staging, best way to record based on technique etc

What I find interesting: 1) More "ear training" for different distortion techniques. Loved that about the pilot. 2) Walking through a few of your hungry covers and highlighting the different techniques/nuances, demonstrating how to get them right. 3) I second what Patryk Wawok said about singing with grit.

I am interested in singing with a grit like Chester or David Draiman - you sing with a grit a lot and it sounds very good and natural. I am struggling with applying a proper amount of grit and I go either full clean or full false cord scream. Also, not sure how to do it in higher registers.

Like I wrote under the last seminar, I would be really interested in a deeper explenation how I can tell: "Ok this is false cord and this is arytnoid cartilage rattle." Also I would like some advice, How i can manage fear of people hear me scream and it sounds awfull or even if not. How can I get to this point where i can say I don`t give a f***. I´m easily emberased and for the future, if I manage how to scream, how can I do this in front of people.?

Lamb of god style vocals would be pretty sweet. Unless I missed it, this particular technique was not covered in the course. I don't think it's quite the false cord or fry or hybrid? It's almost like a grumbly choked off talking kind of a quality. Example 0:59 here: https://youtu.be/fhVLNJcyHeQ?si=0dBOEDivJMcYHzwH&t=59 1:22 sounds like a pretty standard fry scream?

Excited to see the next one! I’m currently curious about the general limitations within each register, from chest voice, to head voice, and falsetto, specifically within the subjects of placement, tone, and range limits. I understand this is covered in the singing course a little bit, but would be happy to learn more about this in further depth!

Currently i'm interested in - 1. Recommended very basic/baseline equipment for at-home practice (maybe recording) 2. Maintaining false cord distortion when just making the sound versus screaming lyrics (I find it can be tricky sometimes, running out of breath faster or just falling out of distortion) if you have any advice on that

Yes I'm interested by these 2 topics as well
