The perfect game...
If I were to make a browser-based game, strategy with RPG elements or something of that nature (obviously historical), what would be the perfect idea?

I grew up playing “Robert E. Lee: Civil War General”. It was a hex based campaign strategy game but no system supports it anymore. If you were able to remaster something like that similar to how Slitherine remastered Panzer General with Panzer Corps in the 2010s that would be awesome.
Intersting proposition for an RPG. So, rather than suggesting actual 'ideas', i wanted to dive deeper into the how. So Q1- What mechanics were you thinking about to achieve this? Several good ways to represent random events, it could be based on the idea of a pack of cards or on use of a series of random tables, but any digital solution has far more possibilities than a physical pack of 52 cards or a 100x100 table matrix (I would do for a 3d table so you can have more scaling control. Q2- Is it it going to be like a Fighting fantasy book, with multiple choices or using random tables or even something else, like a 3D matrix approach (which ive said i prefer)? Personally I think the "fighting fantasy" is easier to do....but has only a few replay possibilities over say the 3D table. As for subject, I suggest sticking with a subject you know very well,- like the US Civil War vs the Crimean war for example. So, I would choose a single event like say the Vicksberg campaign where you play as either the Union or Confederate commander where the automation comes from the political pressure applied to them to succeed.
Imagine an RPG life sim game with some visual novel element sets duing the French Revolution right up until the end of Napoleonic Wars. You play as a created character that must do whatever it takes to survive from 1789 until 1815. You're not limited to just being a soldier, but being able to be a politician, businessman, or even just being an ordinary citizen going through the motion. The game will have thousands of thousands of different endings depending on every single decision you make along the way or maybe your character simply dies halfway through. One example would be be you as a son of a miller who managed to attend French Naval College and have a career as an admiral who could actually stand toe-to-toe with Nelson (something that Brueys and Villeneuve failed to do) causing Napoleon to actually be able to invade Britain through land What do you think, Chris?
A game about groups like the French resistance or the Yugoslav partisans cause they don’t really get any representation in games
How about a Constitutional Convention game where you are a delegate and you have to try to get the best possible outcome for whatever state you pick (or are assigned)? I don't know that there's been a game like that before... But let's say you could somehow negotiate to get certain things in the Constitution, like the ability of states to secede, or weaken the Presidency without a veto power, or Nullification, or something like that?
You’re an ordinary person who’s post war (could pick across many different wars and many different countries), and you have to find a way to build your life back up in the aftermath of the war. E.g., post Cold War Russia where the Oligarchs thrived - what choices do you take?
If you were to make a game…. I’d say WWI or Civil War themed. Unless I’ve missed something I’d say those are the two areas of history where you know the most. And a good game should have deep lore built in, if that makes sense.
I know it's like 30 years old but something similar to the Civil War generals 2
Life of a civil war officer where you control your own regiment, recruit men, manage relationships with other officers/officers below you (captian or lt cl of a regiment) and lead your troops into battle with designated decision making moments and critical thinking areas. Also ordering, food, clothes, anything supply related while having to manage your money so you have enough to pay your men and have enough for supply.
Managing reconstruction after the civil war
