New Episode Drops Today! 1:30pm ET
Hey Patreon,
It's release day! We're doing a live premiere on YouTube, so if you're around and wanna jump into the chat to say hi, it'll go live at 1:30pm. You can watch it at your leisure any time after that in case you don't have 35 minutes free during the middle of a work day.
This one took us through the Armstrong Redwoods in California, and I got to see the biggest dang tree I've ever seen in my life. I was truly amazed at the size of the big dawgs.
See you in the premiere!
Best,
Rollie and the Climate Town Team

Holy moly that was heavy! I am going to contact a popular peanut butter producer here though, owned by Unilever of course, since they too claim to be all sustainable with the RSPO thing. Would it be possible to sometimes include a short list of strong arguments and sources for people to use when they contact an offending organisation? I know that you provide a list of sources used and that's awesome, but it's also quite a lot and I'm doing this during my lunch break. If I can quickly find the information I need I can more easily make my voice heard. The easier it is, the more companies I can hassle. :)
Would you mind uploading directly to here instead of linking to YT? I am trying to can Google as a whole and was hoping most of the creators I directly support here would give me that avenue of escape.
Another great episode. I am depression but at least I laughed a bit. It's sad, I remember raising money for orangutangs in like 5th grade, 2006. It was because of deforestation and palm oil. And here we are.. signed the petition and will try to put my money where my mouth is quite literally and start being more observant of palm oil products. Thanks for this.
Informed if not a little depressed
Absolutely phenomenal episode as ever. Laughing out loud at the Northern California ad and then wanting to cry at the succession of disasters in this story. I find the burning of it as biofuel the most egregious of all of this - but I can't see how much of it is used for that. Hopefully we can see this slow down rapidly and stop expanding the production. I try to avoid products with palm oil and no longer burn fuel in my car so that's something I suppose.
Hi Rollie and Team. Id love to see more talking about how the initiatives that work happened like the grassroots campaigns you mentioned. Hear more about how people are fighting climate change! I end up forgetting a lot of the details of how these climate destruction events go down but i would never forget a video talking about how people win the fight against big companies so id love to hear more about the kind of activism that works, but also what fails, because thats important to know too. Thanks for reading and thank you for the work you do to bring awareness. I hope we can save the planet and take down the big guys, and find sustainable alternatives for the products we use. We can do it if thats where most of the collective effort is going.
Another banger, Jackson! Hope you get commission for the Northern California ad too.
Another fabulous episode and a great reminder to stay vigilant about the use of palm oil in products. Thanks again Rollie & Team!
Thank you for the excellent reporting! A timber company is clear cutting behind where I live in northern california right now… sad the amount of habitat that is being destroyed.
Another great video from Rollie and team. I thought I knew a lot about the issue but I learned a ton.
I recently read a book which focused on Unilever's Palm oil (and other ESG related things). It's called "Net Positive: how courageous companies thrive by giving more than they take” https://netpositive.world/book/ Similar to this video, the book argues that takes all three things to tackle the problem: Public support (activism), laws, and companies with ownership who give a damn. With all three there are solutions. Unilever is a huge palm oil user, but they are only 3% of the global palm oil demand. Despite only being 3% of the demand, they were able to help broker some of the good things mentioned in the video, and NGOs meet with their board to figure out how to operate more sustainably. Even though the problem is bigger than I realized, I'll try to remain optimistic. Thanks for the video!
Excellent, Rollie! I knew I was supposed to be avoiding products with palm oil and vaguely knew the reason but you have shed so much light on this subject!!!! Another fabulous video.
Trees are great, but can't solve the climate issue. We do need to create sustainable incentives to retain forested lands, not flash in the pan tree-planting initiatives. And I live in the redwoods!
