I was stationed in San Diego when Shi Shi and Bai Yun first came to the San Diego Zoo. It was a huge yearlong event and we took the kids every chance we could. I actually thought they might have died by now, which shows how much I know about pandas' life spans.

Got the chance to see one of the San Diego zoo pandas not long before they were “returned.” It did nothing but eat and that’s when I really understood why feeding a panda is in and of itself bank-breaking.
