Secret lives of mormon wives when? 😂
What happens after Temptation Island is so much more interesting than the show, couse these people get to be 3 dimentional. That seems like not enough dimensions though
I really really need you guys to talk about married at first sight Australia
God you guys should really watch the Spanish Version of Temptation Island, it is significantly wilder than the US version, I cannot recommend it enough
🎵I regret what I did 🎶 lives rent free in my mind to this day which regularly causes me to relisten to this episode
I know this is an old episode but I was briefly EXTREMELY excited when you said Michael was going to watch Love is Blind because I love to drag normal people down to my level where we can discuss the finale where the guy is like “I want it to be partially blind, why don’t you start love is blurry”
Galactic Cringe is my new social media bio thanks Michael
really enjoyed methodology queen Michael talking about the issues with self reported data even on an episode about trashy reality TV
I LOVE the queer ultimatum SO MUCH it’s so terrible
Wait wait this one's even better https://youtube.com/shorts/LsI1coLPug0?si=XSg9VmLgabIryIk4
Wow I’m so happy to learn Aubrey is pro-Jasmine.
What does Mike mean when he says something is super Paddington bear and why is he saying it like that — a confused brit
I’m a confused American who has been wondering the same thing.
Re: ultimatums being "a way that no one behaves in the real world" uhhhh my parents got married because my mom literally gave my dad and ultimatum. We get married or we break up--you choose.
Dear reader, this is not a good way to start a marriage
Ok but on the bachelor, they do tell traumatic stories from their childhood all the time, but not in a natural way it’s like it’s a requirement to be on the show that you’ve had some kind of significant trauma and if you haven’t, you need to exaggerate about something minor that happened to you 🤣
ok this has nothing to do with this wonderful episode but thoughts on covering like DIY blood/fecal/etc testing? this girl I know from college became a registered dietitian and “functional medicine practitioner” which, wtf is that - and she is always posting about “diagnosing” her “patients” from the bloodwork she had them order out of pocket from a lab
"Functional medicine practitioner" has 2 makor implocations from me: she is not licensed or it's a Mr. Show-style ad campaign.
Can't believe the show that represents the perfect Reality TV/Maintenance Phase intersection was not mentioned... The Doctors. I would literally pay-per-listen for a "The Doctors" watching podcast where Mike & Aubrey critique every episode
Unfortunately for Mike I am going to need Mike's Recap on every reality show ever 😂
There are already a zillion comments here but: when I worked a different shift from my partner we slept in separate bedrooms. Everyone in a newish relationship responded to this information with “oh that sounds awful” and everyone who’d been together for more than three years would reliably respond with “that sounds amazing.” We lasted six years romantically, and are still friends after almost twelve. Get your own bed.
Haha that’s what my mum and step mum did. He cheated on my mum with her, then cheated on her and left her. Then she and my mum became friends and bonded over what an a-hole he is.
Cannot believe you didn't mention the best bit from Gino & Jasmine, where she pulls off his hat and he immediately pulls an almost identical hat from his bag and puts it on
Late to the party but this episode is proof that I will listen to Mike and Aubrey talk about literally anything 🤣 Dying laughing at Mike’s shoplifting story
I just love you both! Aubrey, you have the Best. Laugh. Ever!! Hearing it fills me with joy. Michael your witty comments have me spitting out my coffee and laughing out loud. The Crepy skin/ The Louvre Food truck! Hilarious!
Monogamy just seems so toxic, I could never!
I can tell Mike didn’t watch Temptation Island with captions because he surely would’ve mentioned how the threesome scene was captioned with an iconic “wet slapping.” WET SLAPPING.
Episode idea: hair regrowth treatments?? I get these ads all the time and I just have no idea if it’s even legitimate
ᶦ ʳᵉᵍʳᵉᵗ ʷʰᵃᵗ ᶦ ᵈᶦᶦᶦᶦᶦᶦᵈ
"My brother in Samsara" has become imprinted in my brain like "All my haters become my waiters at the table of success." Rent free
I’m one of those dog people that needs to calm down. My dog sleeps in between me and my husband. My other dog sleeps in the spare room. Guests can only stay over if they’re comfortable sharing a bed with her 😂
I just binged The Ultimatum because of this episode!! Thank-you Aubrey for introducing me to my new girl-crush Xander 😍
Wait how is the Real World intro a deep cut?!? The whole intro to this episode is so so good.
This episode got me through getting my 2 wisdom teeth pulled, a dry socket, an infection, 4 additional dental appointments... thank you for this ridiculous and hilarious retelling of chaotic trash.
Off topic but I don't see where to just send you a note. Could you please revisit your icon on Apple podcasts? It is white letters on a beige background, so I cannot see the writing at all and must select an episode and scroll down into it for the synopsis. Small thing but I curse you every time I open it! (not a bad curse, more like "DARN IT!")
Mini request for a mini-sode on the song Health is Wealth by Bob Vylan
I think Mike’s joke on the Herbalife episode was criminally underrated. The one about being more crepy than the food truck outside the Louvre? That was epic and Aubrey just moved on ! #justiceformike. 😆
Popping in to comment that I was listening to the latest episode in the car with my 8 year old who heard Michael’s voice and asked if he is a computer generated voice (like AI TikTok videos) or if he’s the “same person on all your podcasts” because I’m always listening to IBCK and Maintenance Phase in the car
So good, but Michael say “Pottington Bear” 🪴 😂
Hey hey you two! This is one is one of those posts that is like the TikTok videos commenting on an episode just for Aubrey and Mike 😄: We made a very very beautiful book about fat liberation in Germany and wanna send it to you guys! Please please send us a mailbox address or wherever we can send free versions for you to (because you are amazing) to : stepson_fatliberation@riseup.net
https://www.instagram.com/stepsof_fatliberation?igsh=d3hoampzbnl3MG5w&utm_source=qr
Herbalife episode reminded me of this story i Aus about a decade ago - man almost died and needed liver transplant . https://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-02-14/man-faced-death-after-taking-popular-weight-loss-product/7162378
Ok I have something to share re: Herbalife that I’d love more info on if this story sounds familiar to anyone. An açaí bowl place opened by me in 2022-2023. An immigrant family ran it. Their ingredients actually looked fresh and not like, Jamba Juice’s interpretation of açaí and fresh fruit. It became my weekly treat at $14/bowl. They started doing coffee and I started ordering that sometimes too. It was really good and allegedly only had 2 grams of sugar. Then I learned it was Herbalife coffee. They also do the low carb protein shakes in a million flavors. And energy refresher things. After months of going semi regularly, one day I walked in and there was a single 35-45 year old man sitting at a table on his laptop. Can’t always judge a book by its cover but aesthetically, just not the kind of person you’d expect to find chilling in an açaí bowl shop. I guess I already blocked out what weird, vaguely creepy thing he said to me, but I could tell it made the lovely woman I knew to be an owner uncomfortable. But the vibe was so weird and I didn’t know what to make of it. I left on a trip after and didn’t make it back for maybe a month. And I made a point to go back so she’d know he didn’t scare me away lol. When I finally did, that’s exactly what she thought happened. Then she told me he basically fronted all of the opening costs and they’ve been paying him back since. But I won’t have to worry about that again because their debt has been paid. Bowls also dropped to $12. I found his instagram profile and he posts a lot of Herbalife. I’m pretty sure they moved to the US to open the location. Made me think there’s something sinister going on via Herbalife but I’ve honestly been too scared to look into it. 🥲
Here for the Herbalife ig story teaser...
Well if these two intellectuals can watch reality TV I guess now I can too
They tried to put Love Is Blind on while I was at the dentist and I begged them not by saying, “please I’m already stressed enough being here.”
Please for our mental health can this be a regular series? I have not enjoyed a podcast ep this much in aaagggeeeessssssss
The songs in reality tv are also my fav, I watch with subtitles on just so I can read the lyrics 😆 I’m sure someone already mentioned in the comments but the Trixie and Katya like to watch eps of reality dating shows are the best
Michael what are the lesbian bases! Pls explain what the lesbian bases are!
I was relieved that you both laughed at the "Fuck you my dog is my child" type of dog ownership.
I would be completely ok with every bonus episode being Michael and Aubrey each telling us about a season of reality TV they watched. This was so funny!
Just gonna leave this here https://youtube.com/shorts/wl1DfxWsAIE?si=hoJn8SnZZRoCIzPf
I saw the short and immeriately thought about this episode XD
OH MY GOD I LOVED THIS EPISODE! and of course Michael can make anything interesting by diving into the actual people and stories behind the scenes. Loved it.
Thank you for a non-depressing episode!
God I love you two. Pretty sure I could listen to y’all talk about any topic, but reality TV talk is a real treat
With all the love in my heart, I’m disappointed in the show choice! As a sometimes apologist of reality TV, I feel like these are shows that no one defends on merit— they are exclusively ‘guilty pleasures.’ I’d be much more interested in a ‘what is interesting and what goes wrong’ conversation about one of the reality show pillars like Survivor, Top Chef, Amazing Race, etc instead of one of these cookie cutter shows that every streaming service can make with $15 and a Costco sized baby oil.
Great ep. Still dying for both of you to watch some UK reality TV: Naked Attraction, Virgin Island, Super Size vs Super Skinny - we’re not an ok island, excellent telly
MP never ceases to enlighten me to the horrible realities around us. This time it is the music in these shows! I’m trying to veg out to Love Island and can’t stop giggling at the dumb music!! It’s amazing.
Omg the 30 rock MILF Island reference got me!! “Debra, you’re safe.. deBORahhh, we no longer wanna tap that” 😂😂😂😂
Have yall heard about “muscle testing” as a way to decide if something is healthy!? I’d love to hear your reactions
for what it’s worth, i was born in 2003 am around enough millennials and gen xers to understand the real world reference in the tagline…the second time around.
The part about the songs mirroring the scene event has me scream laughing. It’s very much the case also for married at first sight as well.
I spent so much of this episode yelling “it’s not supposed to be a realistic reflection of dating!” at my phone. delightful
Well now you’ve got me shazaming every needle drop on every dumb reality show… I think a lot of it is AI.
Mike doing a meathead impression at 12:10 made my day 😂
Will you do a raw milk episode? I was one of the weird homeschooled, fundamentalist Christian kids raised on raw milk, lol.
I would like to 2nd a raw milk episode + I'm so glad you made it through all that !
Omg, as a person named Vanessa, I was feeling very attacked in this episode!😆😆😆 To be fair, most Vanessa’s ARE chaos monsters 😍😅
Every Vanessa is either a terrifying reality star or the coolest person in a 25 mile radius. No in between tho haha.
Guys I love ya but the real world is NOT a deep cut 🤣
THANK YOU
Two things - I can’t get over the fact that Mark Walberg hosts Temptation Island and Antiques Roadshow.. insane portfolio.. and Mike & Aubrey, can I recommend Gogglebox as a palate cleanser? Find it on YouTube. It’s delightful
I was confused when Aubrey was surprised by Mikes shoplifting because I know he’s mentioned it before but it was on IBCK 😂
I had the same reaction!
I hardly ever watch reality shows, but I would happily listen to Aubrey and Mike talking about some show I've never seen every day 😂❤️
For a second I was confusing love is blind with love on the spectrum and I was like. Why is that fatphobic
TIL that love is blind is not about blind people
Scrolling through Kaya Wittenberg now
My husband, while listening “relationship rumspringa or a whöregåsbord, if you will”
Omg the singing sent me! 😆🎶 Shoplifting is baaaaad 🎶
There is one ubiquitous real world example of people deliberately exposing themselves to temptation before making a relationship commitment: bachelor parties.
All I notice is the music in the new season of Ultimatum: Queer Love now and I am dying. Mike and Aubrey please do a watch and review lol.
ME TOO! I even watched with subtitles for the full lyrics experience!
Okay, I love everything yall do. I learn so much and have become a more aware person through yalls’ chatter. And can you do more of this ridiculousness?? Incredible 😍
This solidified why I have no interest in watching Temptation Island, but Aubrey sold me on watching The Ultimatum: Queer Love!
I still think Vanderpump Rules would be a fun bonus episode series. If Mike doesn’t watch garbage he might experience Scandoval for the first time!
Michael we do know Aubrey's reference!
This episode made me laugh so much 🤣🤣
Thank you so much!!!! We need more of episodes like that! Life is depressing nowadays and 'I REGRET WHAT I DID' cracked me up every time! 😂😂 Love you both! ❤️
If you want your dog to sleep in your bed you must get a small dog or a very large bed. My queen bed barely fits my 9 lbs dog and cat and partner and I. The bed situation is serious
Love the reality show bonuses. Very fun. And also the face I made when Mike said that Brion was remorseful. I definitely missed the remorse 😂
Story time: this is from memory but the "Temptress House" pitch reminded me of an old Polish movie. It's titled "Och Karol", Karol is a man's name. So Karol has several mistresses, walks around and meets like four women daily, he's very smug. At some point they find out about each other and decide to kill him with kindness, they exchange recipes or something, organise his day, fully befriend each other and he HATES it. He then finds another lover and they immediately recruit her to the sisterhood. I don't remember the ending, but when I watched it, arguably at quite a young age, I found it hilarious! This is the vibe 😂😂😂
I know it's not proper to have a show like this as your comfort show because what you guys do is important but I can't help it. I put you guys on whenever I feel sad, whenever I can't sleep, whenever I am getting ready in the morning and need a boost of positive energy. You have lifted my spirits so many times when I have needed it. You are two incredibly intelligent and inspirational individuals. I have never thanked you before, but you truly make a difference in this world. Keep doing what you are doing because it helps. P.S. I have a crush on Aubrey (I love u).
Michael starting playing the trailer and I wanted to watch it for real and suddenly it’s 3am and I’m 7 episodes deep
Okay, Mike singing was excellent! Cracked me up! I don't watch reality TV, but these takes were 🔥
I've worked in music copyright for about a decade, and one of my specific responsibilities in a past job was adding the writers to music cues in tv shows and movies, so I know more about production/library music (aka the sort of familiar but not really music you get in the backgrounds of shows who can't afford a composer) than anyone really should; I highly recommend if anyone's at a loose end one afternoon, you go to any of the big production music companies' websites and type in random phrases and artists, because it is VERY funny seeing what they've come up with if someone can't afford to license an actual popular song, and I can guarantee you if you put in something like "I'm being cheated on" you'll probably get something with those lyrics, it's a fascinating part of the music industry.
Ok there is a pharmaceutical ad that plays over and over on Peacock, and the song behind it is a disturbing version of the written-for-this-specific-moment genre… here are the lyrics: I’ve got places to go and places to be Controlling my Chrones means everything to me Control is everything to me Control is everything to me …the damn thing gets stuck in my head every time I re-watch episodes of The Office 🫠
desperately wanted you guys to watch the clip that went viral a few months back from a spanish season of temptation island where one of the guys sees his girlfriend cheating on him and rips off all his clothes and runs down the beach screaming her name. truly the only reason i tried watching the show, it’s perfect television
I love that this light episode eventually goes hard. Really enjoyed it.
Mike is right! Commercial music is often sold in 15/30/45/60 second blips. It likely is only as long as we hear it.
Tagline for love is blind: the straights are not ok
Mike thinking we wouldn’t understand the Real World reference at the top of this episode as if MP’s audience isn’t primarily millennials whose bones are turning to dust 😭
If you're old enough to like this podcast, do you have a medical power of attorney? Cuz ya should
Oh man, my dad (M 70+) tried sooo hard to get on 90 day fiancé with his Cuban gf (30ish). Made it pretty far into casting but my sibs and I wouldn’t cooperate with the gross production storyline so they cut him.
Tbh they both were so wrong for their dog in the bed takes 😂😂😂😂
Please I’m begging you - do one of these annually. I don’t watch any reality tv and this was STILL a fun listen!
This was SO FUNNY, and a much-needed relief (as I've been traumatizing myself with Conspirituality episodes) <3 I've totally internalized the reality TV formula because of Drag Race, and interesting to see that it applies to literally every other show! I don't blame you for wanting to gawk at the straights; I just like my reality to be g-g-g-GAY :)
BRB gonna be singing 🎶I regret what I did🎶 for every minor inconvenience
We need Michael’s singing clipped for ringtones
Hearing Michael learn about Gino and the BBL was something I didn’t know I really, really, really needed
Micheal "bitch tendencies" Hobbes and Aubrey "it's our bbl" Gordon - knock it out of the park once more (by popular demand & against their will)
The money I would pay for Aubrey's 90 Day Fiancé rewatch podcast...
I don’t watch tv, so episodes like this are hard for me to follow, but I enjoy how much they enjoy telling the other person about it
holy shit. i had zero interest in this subject matter but i ended up loving this episode nonetheless. this proves i suppose that i wil happily listen to you guys talk about literally anything.
I think they thing they really didn't clock about Temptation Island is that's it's basically just a show about how straight men lack object permanence.
It’d also be fun to listen to you co-watch some episodes of Project Runway. I’m sure you’d both have some fun, snarky things to say, and project runway feel less garbage-y to me, out of the reality oevre, because these people are practicing a real, valid skill (not just chosen for hotness) and there is an actual good prize at the end.
Macaroni in a pot??? 11/10
How dare you not shout ‘Mark Walberg the Antiques Roadshow Guy?!’ 😂I literally didn’t recognize him without an array of strangers surrounding him clutching dusty Americana
Absolutely agree with Mike about the inane conversations on dating shows. I’m like can someone please have a normal conversation around here or talk about SOMETHING that’s not how they’re into each other.
You guys only talked about the boyfriends and the temptresses. Why didn’t you ever talk about the girlfriends and the tempters?
This brought me such joy. Everytime you sang a lyric underlining the action of the reality show I laughed so hard. Thank you!!!
People going on reality tv for exposure is a tale as old as time! I’m pretty sure all of the pre-social media contestants on The Bachelor were actresses. It’s helpful to producers to have people who are comfortable in front of cameras. I think there are 2 big differences between then and now. One, contestants mostly disappeared from the public eye after their show ended. Viewers couldn’t send them direct death threats en masse with basically the snap of a finger. Which also makes it less appealing to apply for a show to normalish people. Two, people working toward being an internet celebrity might not have the same training as traditional actors as far as being able to compartmentalize a character. Not to say every early reality tv contestant was a formally trained actor or anything, but just by the nature of working in an environment where no one could get famous from their bedroom.
You made me remember that I also thought Kia (or however his name is spelled) was hit on that goofy show 😂
Watching the new Queer Ultimatum after finishing this episode and they're all crying before the changeover and the music is just 🎶 "I need to be sad right now" 🎶 😅
Imagining reality tv producers clocking in at Northrop Grumman
Oh man. You had me at the deep cut right out of the gate.
I would recommend getting away from Chrome.
Milf manor - it's inside.
Come on, Michael!! You've said in the past you like watching makeup tutorials, why didn't you choose to watch Drag Race?!!? It's a different category of reality show but still trash reality, it would have been less painful! Because it's the only franchise that possibly rivals big brother, you'd have to pick a season, so I recommend AS S3. It's fabulous junk food for your brain!
THIS PART!
We’re gonna need a true crime episode about mikes shoplifting phase
This episode was a delight and I'd absolutely listen to more tales of post-Temptation Island
YES PLEASSSSE GIVE US MORE TALES OF POST-TEMPTATION ISLAND! I am shouting cuz I am so into this!
This week on MP, Mike adds the last remaining food group to his constant diet of trash media
Ok now I need yall to watch the scripted series unreal about the behind the scenes antics of a fictional reality show. I made it thru the first season but it is so fuckin bleak. And I believe cured me of my medium level desire to watch Love Is Blind. Bonus it was co-created by Buffy show alum Marti Noxon who also wrote & directed To the Bone, a semi-biographical movie about eating disorders.
Mike: “Men contain multitudes.” Aubrey: “Multitudes: 2 things.” SCREAMING 💀 This is why I belong to this Patreon. Love you both! 🖤
I still think Mike should watch Claim to Fame. It's silly nonsense that doesn't have real world implications.
I really hear Mike on how difficult it is to watch these shows. I tried to watch The Secret Lives of Mormon wives and ended up so unbelievably overstimulated from the: “So I’m having my friends over to tell them I’m pregnant.” “So guys, I’ve brought you all over here today to tell you I’m pregnant.” “So I’ve just told everyone that I’m pregnant.”
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
bless you for this. I haven't watched reality tv since season 2 of the flavor of love. experiencing it through the eyes of Michael and Aubrey is A1+
I have a quirk: I love to hear podcasters talk about and review things that I have NO intention of ever engaging with. You watched it, so I don't have to. But, as much as I enjoyed this episode, I feel like I've been manipulated into asking too much from you. Yikes, I do not have the emotional depth for this...stuff. So, now I'm safe, and I only hope that the two of you can find your ways to healing. Thank you.
YES I do this too! Especially with in the horror genre, which I consider to include reality tv
I would literally pay just to listen to them talk about shit. LOVE this.
My 80lb back-sleeping-in-the-bed dog has entered the chat lollll
Kaia is so behind the times with his 5D: hasn’t he heard from Eldora & Siman that *12D* dragons have arrived on earth?!
I fear all the ridiculous songs are AI
I hope that this is the old school temptation island and not the new one on Netflix 🤭😂 Edit: I started listening and wow now, I know that I was right to think that the Netflix season wouldn't be good. But I appreciate the deep dive. For the fat phobia. I watched Love is Blind Brazil. And they had a plus size brown skinned woman. And at the reveal, the guy starts CRYING because she is fat. And then he kinda puts her in a situation where she has to cheer him up about it. From there I understood selecting thin people.
The premise of Temptation Island sounds like the reality show ‘I Can Do Better’ at the start of the 2004 Stepford Wives 🤯😵💫
YESSS!! I was just thinking that. It’s wild that we had 15 years of media making fun of reality tv and producers just thought it was brainstorming for NEW reality shows lol.
I got the Real World reference!
Petition for Mike and Aubrey to watch Season 7 of Love Island US:
YES
Okay, great epi. Michael you HAVE to watch Below Deck (this current season is a great one to start with)
I love below deck, I have watched all their seasons, such a fun show, drama with some travel
i love aubrey, i love mike and i love the old tomato
Longtime listener, first-time commenter. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I love Aubrey inverting The Real World tagline to "start being polite & stop getting real." ✨Gold.✨
Loved hearing Mike’s open acknowledgment of having a “shoplifting phase, up until I was arrested.” Samesies! (Tempted to quote Shoplifters of the World Unite and Take Over but NOPE.)
also if y’all want some fun mess and you can dig it up, there is a season of MTV’s Are You The One that is all bisexuals and it’s FUN. there are some wonderful people and couples and there are some complete trainwrecks, perfect combo.
That season of Are You the One is truly peak reality TV.
Hilarious. Absolutely cracked up at the music analysis
Mike makes Temptation franchise wholesome shocker
There’s a show on Netflix called “You Can’t Ask That”. There is an episode interviewing people who have previously been reality TV show stars, and it’s fascinating. Their commentary on what being in a situation like that does to the human psyche! https://m.imdb.com/title/tt8827668/fullcredits/
That is the most meta thing… Make content about content…. About content that’s made about the content I’m waiting for the making of the documentary about the documentary about Fyre Fest 2
This is the best possible way to consume reality shows! The only ones I will actually watch with my own eyeballs are those like Great [British | Canadian] Baking Show or Battle of the Blades where everyone is trying their best and more or less kind to one another.
My sister-in-law was on a reality TV show and got booted as soon as she shared her (very valid) sob story. Reality TV is so dark.
Aubrey: this is going to be a light easy episode, we just watched reality TV Michael: so I read the transcripts of the lawsuit from the first season
I cackled. Chef's kiss comment
Do The Valley next!
There’s a BBC podcast called Unreal that’s a critical history of reality tv by two people who both love and are critical of it. Highly recommend.
I had a fwb situation going on when Temptation Island came out and my friend pitched me on the idea of getting on the show in order to bang a dozen hotties while losing as hard as possible. I passed because I would have had to hit the gym pretty hard to get abs plus the waxing...
i need to know if mike found tyler's ex-wife's tiktoks about how their relationship actually ended.
King sized bed, two comforters. Boom. Solves so many sleep issues. I honestly don’t know how adults share a single blanket.
Most people I've shared a bed with would just take both blankets anyway.
Mike singing every fake song like Nic Cage’s character in Long Legs is sending me
I don't like watching reality shows. That said I LOVE my best friend telling me all about the reality shows she watches so this episode is totally my jam. (Also I get your tagline Aubrey, Gen-Xers unite!)
Listening to the clip at 54 secs ish, just sounds like a clip from a soap opera. So unreal!
"Oh, cause she-- OH" got me
inside you are two wolves, one is an introspective guy, the other has threesomes on reality TV goes to show you how useful a village homosexual would be for these couples problems
Okay what blows my mind most about the host, Mark Wahlberg, is that he is also a host on Antique Roadshow.
OOOH MY GOD THATS WHY I KNOW WHO HE IS! Thank you! I don’t watch trashy reality TV but I have definitely watched a few antiques roadshows in my day. I was like, how do I already know about this guy?? Incredible resumé.
Total disclosure, I love these trashy TV shows to escape the hellscape of global wars. This episode made me laugh out loud and feel angry at the producers all at the same time. You guys make my life better always! ❤️💜❤️
If you like this episode I recommend the book One Perfect Couple by Ruth Ware
Lol, even here, Mike went above and beyond and researched multiple seasons of Temptation Island
immediately after remarking about how gross it is that they have to be extroverted, Mike quibbled with the evaluation metrics of the dumb paint game. the Michael Hobbes™ brand is strong.
I think I could listen to Mike and Aubrey talk about literally anything under the sun and be fully amused
lol, normal speed like a pilgrim
Bahaha! Mike’s “my prime USDA beef with…” really got me 🤣
I couldn’t watch Love is Blind because I hated the personality of every person on it.
I can’t stand reality tv. This isn’t a moral judgement, I don’t like it only because I get too second-hand upset for the people going through major drama lol. But I love listening to Aubrey and Michael talk, so I’m still here for this!
The Big D had one season and is almost a mishmash of the two shows on this episode. You may need to watch it, for research purposes.
Asking “how do you even measure this” when referring to a sexy body paint challenge is the most Michael statement I can think of lol
OK I’M AWAKE
Obsessed with Mike saying Poddington Bear
Omg I gagged at body shots out of a sweaty belly button
I suggested Temptation Island because it's my favorite trainwreck and I am so pumped to listen to this episode!
The spit takes I had whenever Michael sang “I regret what i diiiid”
Please do Are You The One next! You can use statistics to play along at home!
My favorite extremely socially aware I Like to Watch 🩵
It's a MANOR, like the Meerkats!
If it had hilarious voiceovers like Meerkat Manor, then I *might* watch (probably still no, but I’d think about it for 3 minutes).
Not yet another previous-Michael-Hobbes-job being Shoplifter 🤣
Somehow the most diabolical thing the producers have done is stick ANYONE in a bedroom that has *checks notes🧐*... FIRE ANTS?!!!... 😖🙈🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Also only five minutes in and had to jump in 😂 On the first or second season of Love is Blind a guy asks his date if he could lift her up onto his shoulders at a festival as a pretty obvious way to see if she was fat. This show answers, but refuses to acknowledge, its own question every episode, every season: "Is love blind?" NO!!! It's not. And there aren't that many success stories, a handful and some babies, but mostly drama, ugly splits, and divorces. Seems like a terrible way to find a partner!
I love trash reality TV. It's like brain candy. So hearing someone who doesn't watch it review it is great. Because Michael just being baffled brings me joy.
The great news is I cannot stop singing “shop lifting is baaad” now
Who is going to make the techno remix of Mike and Aubrey singing all the fake songs? I need it.
The deep cut to the Denver airport, was that only hilarious to people in Denver??
I don't live in Denver and found it funny! But I have been to the airport exactly once lol
Listened to the episode twice already. Love the subtle singing.
i watched the trailer too & my cortisol spiked immediately. also it’s soft porn??!!! wtf i just want some of these contestants to come out as a throuple/polycule at the end 🥲
Me, in my head listening to the tag-in: “TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUE STORY”.
YES Aubrey, thank you for closing us out 🤣🤣🤣
I’m only five minutes in, so forgive me if this is mentioned, but in Love Is Blind Brazil, there’s an incident where a guy is walking out of the pod and says “I liked her but she sounded fat.” She overheard his comment, and they had to have a sit-down. If it were me, I would neverrrrr speak to that man again because what is that nonsense???
What’s great about this though is that he is never appearing on the show again whereas she appears again (also in the after the altar) and she gets a great edit as not giving a shit and knowing that he was acting like shit. (It’s a little win for fat/non mainstream body standard representation)
Between the "Tag it up, tag it in" House of Pain and the "When people stop getting real and start getting polite" Real World callbacks, I could not feel more seen as am xennial. Aubrey, I got to tell you on a group video call a few years back that y'all are you only podcast I listen to on regular speed, because I didn't want to rush through it. With cuts like these I may need to switch to .75x. 😄 XOXO
I got the Real World reference!
Listening to you two is the dopamine hit my brain craves!
More 90 day talk! #teamJasimine
Thank you, Mike, for making the ultimate sacrifice: watching Temptation Island so I don't have to. I sat through a Love Is Blind finale once with some fans of the show and I felt like I was losing my mind.
Can we please have next month's bonus episode be about queer ultimatum season 2 🤞🏻
YES! I loved this episode, so funny, but OH how I had wanted much much more on Aubrey’s take on The Ultimatum!
The Real World!
Omg — this episode is over an hour long?!? Yay!!
It's my birthday and this is the best present thank you
Happy Birthday!!🥂🥳
I love these reality episodes. Dying for more 90 day fiancé takes!!
MY LONGEST YEAH BOIII EVER
Okay ‘Relationship Rummspringer’ needs to be the name of the next big Netflix dating show
The funniest thing about TI is that in the first episode the ‘treats’ for each house are so hilariously gendered - the men’s treat is to have a ‘lingerie party’ and do body shots off unrealistically hot women and the women’s treat seemed to be to have the tempters sit around and ask them questions about their lives (something their original bfs have possibly never done) 😂
I just love the two of you.
I loved watching Queer Love Ultimatum, but it would be terrible to watch alone. It can only be watched with wine and other women so you can be outraged with other people. Also, so you can marvel about how flawed the premise is at least once an episode: if you have to give an ultimatum for marriage, your relationship is fundamentally flawed. I don't particularly want to get married, but if I was with somebody who did, I would do that to make them happy. Or if I was more set in my conviction, I'd hope my partner could accept that about me. If you have to go on this show, your relationship is basically already over.
I know one of the cameramen for The Ultimatum! Sadly I can't remember which couple he filmed for.
I have seen one episode of a 90 day show and it made me 100% pro gold digger they deserve it for how hard they have to work
I was just about to watch temptation island because I can’t tell if it’s fun trash or trash trash and now I don’t have to!
Yaaay!! I hope no Mikes were harmed in the production of this episode xD
Yay for the ultimatum, boooo temptation Island. Can't wait to listen
This being posted right as I was sitting down to wait for an hour in the airport… impeccable timing 😌✨
This makes me so happy. I was just listening to the (timeless) Bachelor episode the other day!
Omg I needed this today!
Yes!!! The timing of this episode is impeccable 😍😍 Petfect companion for a long workday 😍🌸☘️
this feels like Christmas has come early THANK YOUU
