Upkaneing

Hi friends, ! How are you? I’m having a bit of a sad week, one of my kids is in a bit of a crisis with his autoimmune again and I feel pretty helpless and stuck about it. The good things Im focusing on this week were the smell of a fresh rain, a new fall drink at my fav drink place, ordered a halloween puzzle and planned a night with friends to do it and the kids crying laughing trying to pull a prank on me. What were your good things?

Did anyone watch the emmys? I saw Widows Bay swept, have any of you watched that? I think I might have to now-one friend told me it’s scary and she can only watch during the day! I also saw the adorable Knight of the 7 Kingdoms' two lead stars on the red carpet and just fell more in love with them!

Speaking of them-this week's uploads will be the last two epis of KOT7K and our poll winner Citizen Kane, and GODZILLA! Next week will be cellular (our PaF winner), Clerks and A Bridge too Far! This week will also be our first Scary but not too Scary Poll! Classic Horror-make sure to go vote!! I have a few titles in mind that I am planning on watching already this year for SBNTS October, but you all get to help me pick the rest with polls throughout the month! I won't start any new TV shows at least until after October! Dun dun duuuuunnnnnn!

Did I tell you we’re going to do a halloween scary movie trivia night again? Have that on your radar!

Also on the radar-Extra Butter Night next week on 9/22!

Don’t forget to enter Pick a Flick for September-not too scary of picks ok? ;)

Have the best weekend!

Cassie

Citizen Kane and Godzilla what an interesting mix bag we have here (I haven't seen any of the KOTK series so I can't comment) But it'll be an interesting couple of watches . And Cassie has seen the original Godzilla '54

R
Richard Maurer · September 21, 2026

Cassie has seen 3* total Godzilla movies - G’54, Shin Godzilla, and Godzilla Minus One. *4 if you count Godzilla ‘98, which I do not.

R
Richard Maurer · September 20, 2026

Cassie - as a horror fan I really enjoyed last year’s movie selections, for the most part (could have done without Scream 2 but that was the patrons fault). I hope this year is similar with the “not too scary” part kept to a bare minimum. I’m not saying that every film should be at Nosferatu’24 level scary, just that I hope the majority of films are real horror films and not films from other genres masquerading as horror.

J
Joe J · September 20, 2026

Very curious what films Cassie picks herself. I assume Ben and the mods source the films for the polls.

Hey Cassie thanks for all the hard work. I can't believe that "A History Of Violence" is so far down the ratings list on your website. It's a slow-burn action movie with an incredible twist starring Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) with music by Howard Shore. I put a vote in for that and for "Vanilla Sky", two of my all-time favorites. Anyone reading this that agrees with me on AHOV please go vote it up! David Cronenberg, Ed Harris, Maria Bello, Viggo Mortensen... freakin' phenomenal.

Someone suggested a Poll with titles pulled randomly from PaF submissions... but with this twist - The winner is chosen from the loser end, from the titles who got the fewest votes! Okay, a poll is a popularity vote... which is not the nature of PaF... and the winners of such polls are the movies that have been "seen the most" by the group which is also contrary to the nature of PaF. We already know every PaF selections are carefully thought out and vetted movies that are one-in-a-lifetime per member pick of a movie they most desire... it goes beyond a guilty-pleasure movie because it's only one, a list of one. Therefore any one PaF is worth watching, that's why it's chosen randomly or by wheel... which is random. A poll to remove randomness... but random is the goal. Therefore subvert the poll nature by picking the poll loser as the winner! 😶

Hey Cassie, I’m so sorry to hear about your Son’s continued health struggles. You are in my thoughts. 🙏 I understand how hard it is to watch the one you love struggle with their health and there is nothing you can do to help. Lucy was in so much pain last week, she threw up! All the meds have failed her. We just hold on in hope for the DBS treatment assessment in January 🫰. Should be an interesting and varied week ahead. I haven’t seen Godzilla, but it will please your monster heads on here to have another one. I haven’t watched AKotSK yet, but soon I hope. Citizen Kane is a must for a cinephile, even if, like me, you think it’s just ok. You can appreciate its importance in film history. Anywho, all the best Cass. You are the best ❤️ P.S please give Horror of Dracula a try in October 🙏

I know as a person who’s a bit obsessed with watching movies. I definitely should have watched Citizen Kane a long time ago, but it’s something that every time I’ve thought about watching it. I’ve just put something else on. But I’ll definitely check it on now but I’ll be honest I’m still not that excited about watching it. - Definitely looking forward to watching Godzilla, but next weeks is looking pretty good. Cellular is an ok movie, Bridge to Far I’ve not watched in a while so definitely looking forward to watching that & Clerks I’m very interested to see what Cassie makes of it lol. I know Cassie said she wanted a 100k view on a PaF. Just looked on YouTube and if The Last StarFighter had won (got into the last 10) CineBinge & Jen Murray are very close to getting 100k. Also if she likes Clerks some one got around 250k views on YouTube for Clerks II. ….. Just an update I’ve just watched CineBinge reaction to Last StarFighter and it’s just gone over 100k views

R
Richard Maurer · September 19, 2026

Dean, you’re not alone in that Citizen Kane boat, many people put off watching it. The hype that’s it’s “greatest movie of all time” or whatever, combined with the feeling of a school assignment you get from being told it’s “required viewing” makes people want to avoid it. When I finally broke down and watched it I felt underwhelmed - nothing can live up to all that hype. After time to reflect I still don’t think it was the best film I’d ever seen, not really my genre for one thing, but you can definitely see the innovation and appreciate it for that, if nothing else. My advice would be don’t go into it expecting to be amazed, you might enjoy it more.

I keep seeing recommendations for horror tv shows for Cassie. First, let me acknowledge that I don’t ever see that happening, unless it’s a short one season that could fit within the reaction slots for October. That said, if Cassie were to react to a series, I’d recommend the following: Kolchak: The Night Stalker (20 episodes + two tv movies that kicked off the series) this is the series that Chris Carter ripped off to such great effect with the X Files X Files (11 seasons, 218 episodes) I’d recommend only the “monster of the week” episodes (and, even then, only select episodes); the mythology really falls apart as the seasons stack up Masters of Horror (first season only - 13 episodes) offerings by John Carpenter, Joe Dante, John Landis, Tobe Hooper, Dario Argento and more; truly they are masters Tales from the Crypt (seven seasons; after season 4 or 5 the quality diminishes) fantastic adaptation of the comic books of the same name; patron Rene recommended this first and it got me thinking Tales from the Darkside (4 season) an anthology series created by legendary horror maestro George Romero Twilight Zone (5 seasons) the granddaddy of weird, creepy tv shows and still the best

D
Donnie MOORE · September 19, 2026

Theres some great made for TV movies that I never see any reactions to. -SALEMS LOT 1979 a Stephen King Story -THE NIGHT STALKER 1972 -TRILOGY OF TERROR 1975 An anthology -CATS EYE 1985 not made for tv but a good Stephen King anthology.

J

S
Stick Figure Studios · September 19, 2026

As the English poet Robert Graves once said about William Shakespeare, "He really is very good, in spite of all the people who say he is very good." I think the same thing could be said about KANE. Is it the greatest movie ever made? Maybe, maybe not. I don't think such a thing even really exists, but it's certainly a worthy contender for that honor.

As a older PiB Patreon member I wait and hope Cassie and the members under 40 find the viewing of the classic film "Citizen Kane" a joy to behold. The camera and acting techniques introduced to moviegoers are amazing plus the movie has a great mystery plot to follow as Kane's life unfolds.

S
Stick Figure Studios · September 19, 2026

It's a magnificent film. I don't necessarily expect any of our younger patrons wanting it for the first time to be as enamored of it as I was on my first viewing, but the more people that see KANE, the better. Hey Cassie, I'm sorry to hear about one of your kids getting sick again, my heart goes out to you! I wonder what kind of prank they tried pulling on you lol! The only good thing that's going on with me is that I just started my one week vacation from work to "somewhat" celebrate my birthday next week, which just so happens to be your "Extra Butter Night" lol! And I've also gotten started at getting the pieces to my costume for Halloween this year, in my case, I'm dressing up as "The Shadow" an old-school superhero based on the 1930's radio broadcast show of the same name and the 1994 Alec Baldwin movie, I highly recommend that movie, it's so underrated and deserves more love, I'll be sure to send pictures so you can see 😁 Fun fact, The Shadow predates Batman and Superman, and also served as an inspiration to the creation of Batman! Hope you got my fan letter, sorry that it's 29 pages lol, but like I said the majority of it is the voting polls I came up with that I so hope you'll consider posting in the future! I also hope you enjoyed reading the "story" part of the letter about my life lol, I hope you found it interesting and I apologize for some of the extreme parts in it! I'm looking forward for your reaction and starting the Monsterverse with "Godzilla (2014)" it's gonna be one heck of an adventure lol! Take care, love and support, hope Carly's doing okay (give her a hug for me), see you on Extra Butter Night/My Birthday lol, you and Carly are the best, and God bless y'all and the family🥰😇🙏🤗😉✌🌹

I love the Shadow (both the character, the radio series and the Alec Baldwin Movie). I thought about dressing up as him myself for Halloween at some point. When it comes to parents your gut instincts are your maternal or paternal instincts. Good things in the fall Eva loves baking apple spice, pumpkin spice muffins, cookies. We leave apples attached to the fence posts for the deer. We have huge set up for the birds right out are bedroom window. We focus on our three dogs and two cats and our bird. That's how we stay happy by making them happy by making other people happy. Kat from Kat watches horror movies is doing Widows Bay, she is also doing Crystal Lake a prequel to the original Friday 13th (1980) which comes out October 8, on Peacock. We really think that House Of The Dragon you would like the characters it's the closest thing to Game Of Thrones. The Pitt won for best drama that deserved to win. I too had sworn it off earlier in life, but it turned out to be far more thoughtful and poignant than I expected. Far from just another demonic scary movie.

M
Mike Lemon · September 19, 2026

The Exorcist isn't about "being ready," it's about not wanting to watch it. Why can't people respect that?

I think Citizen Kane (1941) is a good choice. It’s one of the great classics. A terrific follow-up, even if it’s off-channel, would be The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), Orson Welles’s second feature film as director after Citizen Kane. Welles in his prime was remarkable, a gifted director, actor, and storyteller. I have to give myself some credit for opening up my own horizons, too. I’m glad I watched CODA (2021). It was completely unexpected, and since I’ve spent this week on my back with COVID, it was a very pleasant surprise. I also think CODA would be a good choice for the channel. I think Cassie would enjoy it, and if Carly, even as a brand-new mother, can still find time to watch it with her sister, I think she’d enjoy it too. Just my opinion.

Agree CODA (2021) is a heartwarming and uplifting film. Hope you feel better soon Doc Larry! 😊

Ironically you're about to watch a movie about enjoying the good things. My good things are my fridge is full of my favorite steak, I'm about to be in a short film, and my 20 year class reunion is coming up!

K
Kevin Farrell · September 19, 2026

Say it ain't so Garrett! My reunion is in a few years too, but I swear it was just a few weeks ago that I was bantering and messing around with my buddies in the hallways! How time flies.

Widows Bay would be a great show to react to. It's very funny.

B
Brent Petty · September 18, 2026

Suggestions for the other October polls: Fallen (Denzel Washington), Frailty (Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton), the first Paranormal Activity, and Dawn of the Dead (2004), and Panic Room (Jodie Foster, Kristen Stewart). Panic Room is more of a tense thriller than horror, but it's good.

One little thing, A Bridge Too Far should have subtitles for the non English parts, sometimes streaming services mess with them

J
Jay Davis · September 18, 2026

I didn't notice that A Bridge Too Far was coming next week until I saw your comment. Thrilled! Adore that movie having watched it countless times. Looking forward to seeing PiB watch it now.

You should definitely react to Widow’s Bay. It’s wicked funny, and pretty squarely falls into Scary But Not Too Scary territory.

S
Stick Figure Studios · September 18, 2026

Sorry to hear about your child, Cassie. Hope everything turns out okay. :-( WIDOW'S BAY is terrific. My wife and I are huge fans of Matthew Rhys and probably would have watched it just because he's in it, but the writing and the filmmaking is actually really good. It is primarily a horror series, but it has a strangely quirky and ironic sense of humor. It's both funny and scary. I love it. But what I am really excited about is that you are finally taking the plunge and viewing one of the most important films ever made: Orson Welles's masterpiece CITIZEN KANE. It's a rite of passage for any serious film buff. I realize that you heard mixed things ranging all the way from it's being of the most overrated movies of all time to it it truly is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) films ever made. Personally speaking, I tend to be in the latter camp as it is one of my favorite films (which is why I submitted it as one of my five pics when I won trivia night). II think it is extraordinary work of art that gets richer, deeper and more rewarding with each subsequent view... I have seen it maybe 20 times in my life and I never tire of it. At any rate, don't let these varied opinions of it intimidate you. Sometimes I think KANE has become a sort of victim of its own heightened reputation. I'll talk more about it after you actually watch it, but you just do what you always do and have as genuine and authentic reaction as possible. I actually think you will like it because while it is true that the techniques used in it were very innovative at the time, it also works as compelling human drama and is actually a sort of mystery (as you will see). Really looking forward to that. As always, Keep up the good work.

I think you’ll enjoy Widow’s Bay. A great show to react to during October.

J
Jenny_M · September 18, 2026

I'm so excited for Citizen Kane! Also, as someone who is a lot like you with horror, I can say that Widow's Bay does have some scary moments, but it's not actually that bad. Without any spoilers, I can say that it's equal parts funny and scary.

S
Stick Figure Studios · September 18, 2026

I've been excited for a KANE reaction for years.

C
Clarence Newman · September 18, 2026

I will help you choose if I must. As you seem to be watching The Blob with a young Steve McQueen, it would only be right and proper and fair and equitable to then have a Steve McQueen poll, of which the following films would be fab: The Cincinatti Kid (1965) - Young stud poker stud takes on The Man for all the beans Bullitt (1968) - There are no other car chases. This is the car chase. The Getaway (1972) - Ok, if you watch this one, just remember, she still married him after he slapped her silly. Papillon (1973) - Simply the best McQueen movie. His best performance, Dustin Hoffman's best performance. It's quite long, though, so prepare for numbness in the nethers. Towering Inferno (1974) - You should just watch this one. Literally tens of thousands of comments over the past year, begging for a reaction to it. Why do you hate us, Cassie? Why? Also....speaking of fab stuff.....it's time for A Hard Day's Night with The Beatles. You need to experience Ringo's enormous great hooter, with his poor little head trembling under the weight of it. Also, Horror of Dracula. But you know that already cos someone here's got it tattooed on his forehead. Love to your boy. All a mother can do is love and the rest will work itself out.

N
Nim · September 18, 2026

💯 Papillon. They don't make films like that anymore. Midnight express also 👍. For years I heard about the legendary car chase in Bullit and when I finally got around to watching the film I was a little underwhelmed. Probably all that built up expectation. The car chase in Ronin is still my favourite.

Cassie - why call it Scary but not too scary when one of your stated goals for 2026 is to watch the scariest movie you’ve ever seen? Kind of makes the “ not too scary” part meaningless. I prefer Popcorn in Dread, it’s much less cumbersome . Hope your kid feels better soon.

C
