I'm wondering when Numbtunge and Saylas of lights will rejoin the story? I've been missing them both.
Are we getting a new character today??? Please!!!
As you'd expect, the subreddit has lots to say about this. Some of it is value added in terms of concerns about pacing and how long random side arcs that don't advance the plot will/would have taken. I'll probably be shifting off patreon since I don't partake in the other products TWI puts out, but I wish Paba the best in what they choose to do. I'll probably catch up pretty quickly every year or so.
Volume 8 and 9 are the greatest volumes of The Wandering Inn(so far). I can completely understand how writing so much is unsustainable long term, but it was using that workflow that allowed Paba to write her best works. Volume 10 has had no where near the quality of volume 8 and 9. It honestly feels like she's a bit tired of the entire story, and just trying to come up with new perspectives to find her spark again. I mean, even Fightipilota is getting their own chapters now. while we've barely seen the MC in the last two, real-life years. We didn't see her in volume 8 either, but all the chapters felt much more connected back then. Like they were all building towards the same thing.
If you'd release a chapter each month, I'd still be on this patreon. I'd be sad and a thin duck, but I'd still not be starving
I really do love this story. It might be my favorite work of fiction ever. Though I'm not an "Erin only" reader, she is the ostensible protagonist. Even volume 8, the previous Erin-light volume, had more Erin ... I ... think .... But this current volume's pace and sprawling storlines is killing me. Anyway, reading it all in one chunk made volume 8 read much better. So, while I will maintain my patreon, I think I'm gonna just not read any Wandering Inn until the first two chapters of the next volume, however long that takes.
Your stories are amazing! The Wandering Inn is probably my favorite series ever! The other series I read release 2–3 chapters a week, but those chapters only take me about 10–15 minutes to read. You consistently give me 2–3 hours, if not more, of reading every time you release a chapter. I just wanted to say that I really appreciate how much time and effort you put into your writing. While I also hope you use a schedule you need to be at your best. I’d much rather wait a little longer for a chapter if it means you’re able to take time for yourself. Thank you for all the incredible stories you have given me! Genuinely, I get so excited every time my Patreon account notifies me of another chapter release! I look forward to every time you release more!
So there is a book series that your reminding me of, and it's the Elfhome series. The author took some time at some point to write a series of short stories that took place and introduced some new characters that were later shown and used in the main story. Sounds like you're planning on writing some short adventures for specific characters, likely to flush them out a bit and to further expand the world of the Wandering Inn. Most of your off shoot stories I have found interesting, kind of miss the Last Tide, if you get the chance, please add to it. Good luck and keep writing
No need to apologize for expecting to deliver 2+ novellas a month. For years now, I have looked forward to, and enjoyed every TWI update. And during weeks without new releases, I get to reconnect with old favorites (often Relc chapters). I look forward to the other projects as well. I have really enjoyed Cara's story, and found early Griefman sorta terrifying. As an artist, you have to follow your muse. And as one who appreciates art, I look forward to seeing everywhere that your muse leads you.
A while back (I think it was around the Admiral Dekelos story), you said you were trying to make chapters feel feature complete with a clear beginning, middle and end. This resonated with me and whenever you did it, it was almost always a great chapter. However, sometimes in these multi-chapter arcs a chapter can feel like it's lost at sea. Things are clearly happening and we're definitely moving, but to where, what purpose, and how long, I can't tell. These chapters struggle to stand on their own because they're basically 40,000+ word chapters of set up. To give an example of what I mean, 10.72, 10.73 H, felt this way, while 10.74, and 10.75 pt1/2 on the other hand each felt like they could all stand on their own. I don't mind 2 chapters a month, but it feels kind of bad when the two chapters we get feel like directionless set up for some future, better chapter.
Yeah, I'm not gonna unsub, as no matter what you do I do enjoy the story, and would like to see it keep going.. But I really do hope that with this new-new-new schedule/writing style you'll take a look at the story, the pacing of wandering inn does not seem to have been made with that in mind... The main plot was already moving at glacial speed(which is generally fine, but side stories are hit and miss depending on what character or plot it revolves around, but a miss will feel a lot worse now), and this will only slow that down if nothing is done.
Remember when we’d get two chapters a week? Pepperidge Farms remembers. I give it another two years and we’ll be getting one chapter a month. 😖
Take a look at the average word count per chapter in those days ( https://innwords.pallandor.com/wordcount ). Do you care about the arbitrary chapter cutoff points or the amount of story? More importantly, do you care about the quality of the story? Because outlining, editing and rewriting may not give you more words, but it sure gives you better ones. I'd rather pirate take 20 years to end the story as the best version it can be, rather than rush through it in 5.
I do love this story, I have been a patreon since vol 5. I am supportive of what you need to do to maintain your health and avoid burnout but I am wary about this change and what it means for the progression of arcs and plot. I hope side arcs are more tightly structured with this change. The Ilvriss plot may have taken around 4 months with this release schedule. Other arcs as written like PoF would have taken years. I did not miss the part where you said you hope to plan chapters out more so my hope is that we don't have arcs that stretch months at a time. And I'm also of the opinion that 60,000 words on one chapter is not the same progression as 60,000 spread amongst three chapters. Wishing you the best of luck with this and your other works!
Honestly your writing speed has outpaced my reading speed since volume five. Still haven't even tried catching up, so hopefully this will give me a chance!! Planning is good. Good plan. Thumbs up for plan.
Never stop dreaming, paba. ❤️
Well, for me thats a bridge too far. Thank you for letting me know. I just cancelled my long, long standing subscription. This story has truly lost it's way.
Hope you're joking, mate. The Patreon used to be like 20k words a month when she was just starting. 60k words a month is insane. Other stories charge $10 or $15 a month for 16k words a month or less.
Honestly, just the fact that this means we'll hopefully get Warsong sooner (and a new Haeight book, hell yeah!), makes me excited for this change. As others have said, TWI is already producing more in a week than most other authors pump out in a month, so even if it means slightly less on a week to week basis, I'm totally fine with that. Very excited for this change, and happy to see where the journey of this story continues!
211? I'm reminded of the chinese 699 work schedule. I would hope that this is much healthier than that? And something about bringing TWI to its conclusion?
If it means that the story is more structured and there are less issues with pacing then I'm all for it.
I will never ever unsubscribe from your patreon pirate aba, for everything you have given us, continue to give is, and promise to keep giving to us in the future I am a forever fan Of a story and a writer who has made my life so much better by being gifed enough to have found your stories
I can help you in your life as a partner cutie 🥰
A good plan
Sounds reasonable enough. Welcome back!
Agreed. Great idea! I support this and will continue my Patreon knowing that my favorite author of my favorite series is already well worth the pittance I can afford. Thank you for explaining the change. I'm rooting for it to work out well for your continued success!!!
Amazing! I can't wait to see what more you can do!
Love your stories do whatevers right for you. Im always happy when a new chapter is out. The Pieces arc was fantastic!
I think 60,000 words a month is like double what most other established serialised authors put out haha. I already need to plan TWI into my week schedule so I don't sleep deprive myself.
this is a GREAT idea 👍
