Who Knew It feedback...
Any thoughts on this feedback about Who Knew It? I tend to just let the guests go off on any tangents they like (not all of them G rated etc) and I guess I'm not easily offended, but could definitely wind things in a bit or instruct the guests at the start that I'm going for more of a family vibe (or at least get Conner to be tighter with the editing of such things... maybe editing them out or leaving them only in the outtakes section at the end).
Always open to feedback (the gentle/constructive kind, I'm a sensitive soul after all!) And while I think I'm a people pleaser, I'm also aware you're not going to please all the people all the time!

Feedback such as this may be proof that one can, in fact, shit out of one's mouth...
Love it the way it is. Very quickly became one of my favorite podcasts. But also probably wouldn't recommend to my mom. She wouldn't know how to listen anyways so no real loss there.
Hi. Just coming back to reaffirm I love the pod as is.
Although I guess that’s obvious
Please please please do not start seeing every moment of the podcast as if it’s for the purpose of booking a spot on a TV show! Be free!
I do not necessarily agree with the feedback, especially because you need to do what you like, and we listen if we like it too. It depends if you want it to feel like a quiz show, in that case maybe sometimes I felt like the participants were actively derailing it. It can be fun but it is a different animal. Dunno about the gross stuff, English is my second language so it is all gross to me XD
Sounds like someone who's never shit out of their mouth before tbh.
Eh, just be yourselves! Worked a treat so far
I think you’re fine! Love the show! If YOU want to wind things in then do it. If not fucking keep on it! Also I’ll refrain from liking this since there’s 69 current likes as of posting this haha it’s your pod. Make it what you want and us weirdos will follow lol
I had to take a break from my meal, but I thought it was funny that that contestant had to double down on their terrible answer 🤣 trying to make up a real story, saying that their partner would vouch for the tale, and that he was in the studio 😭 I mean they really took the game seriously, but only after having a bad answer. I thought it was great gameplay tbh 🤣
nah go off - worlds tiniest violin for mr. sell out the complainer
For me this specific section was a bit much and I had to slam the skip button through it, but mostly because I was eating at the time. But it wasn't rage inducing like it seemed to be for that fella. Maybe put it in the same bucket as the popcorn chewing section of whichever pod that was.
This guy is a real stick in the shit that fell out my mouth
It's wierd- there can be podcasts like this and Do Go On (okay, specifically these two) that can go into R-rated territory and dogshit riffs, and gross discussions, but still feel kind of... wholesome? Clearly not like a Brady Bunch kind of wholesome, and it's hard to describe it. I think it's the 'how good is life' good-natured attitudes that make me think that. I can't remember what podcast I was listening to, probably a Confessions, and I wanna say it was Jess who said Matt's mission statement is bringing joy and he excels at that. You can get away with gross stuff (especially when you call it out as gross like in this episode) from time to time because there is so much silliness and fun and joy in the podcast. And that silliness and fun and joy is something a lot of us need and for which we are very grateful.
Jeezo! I spent the whole time screaming at my iPod that people do poop out of their mouth! (Until it got the outtakes and you did research it) It’s a pretty good sign you are crook! Like, if you aren’t already, get to the hospital now! So maybe you actually saved someone life 🤷🏻♀️
This song has Poo in it. Very unprofesh, lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP2QJ-9bjzQ
I'm personally not the hugest fan of humour that focuses on bodily functions/fluids, etc., but I understand a lot of people are; I've not heard anything that would make me not listen, but I don't think that this is a show that's aiming to get primetime promo so you're good but when it comes to recommending the show it could be a minor issue. But I think, as others have noted, that could be easily adjusted with like a time code in the description. Dropout (a comedy network/streamer) does that, e.g. an improv scene involves somebody fake vomiting. They include in the episode description 'Emetophobia warning: 14:30-14:35' and so on for any relevant common fears or taboo topics cause then, if you are sensitive to certain jokes, you can easily skip them or mentally prepare; otherwise, if a bit does go long or maybe a little crude, but the outtakes section is always a great place to move them. But on a less serious note, I love the implication that this person thinks in creating a highlight reel of WKI. The first thing you would include would be a bit about shitting
okay i have since listened and i entirely stand by this, i really though it was going to be a LOT and it was very mild and like very easy to just skip forward if it was an issue i defnitely think there has been cruder bits/episodes - mean literally one question type is chuck tingle erotica titles so i truly don't know what people are expecting (also check tingle has a tumblr and it is fascinating)
WKI has a lot of "name this creature" questions, and let's face it, biology is gross. But fascinating! I love a gross riff, as long as it's clever. If you're really concerned about this feedback, you could add an explicit content warning to the description on the podcast services.
Please don't "wind things in a bit" it would be a darn shame. I can only remember being a bit put off by some technical cricket talk, off which I understood very little, but I assume there are others out there that loved it. Keep up the great work.
Opinions are like arseholes - everybody has one but some are not worth worrying about. Pretty sure (scrolls up and down this feed) that most people love the show just the way it is - I know I do! Said person needs to find a more mundane quiz IMO 😉👍
You could appeal to sponsors who sell products that reduce the risk of shitting out your mouth... fibre supplements perhaps?
I have always seen things like DGO an WKIWMS as a punk parody of high brow podcasts so that kind of tangent is exactly what I'm looking for.
Hey, Matt, I know you've got plenty of comments already but here's my two cents. I listen to a lot of Do Go On/Weekly Planet adjacent podcasts out of Melbourne and I feel like, for the most part, they can all get a bit rude in an entertaining and funny way. It's never bothered me, personally. I think the occasional dirty riff can be pretty side-splitting. Unless your show is explicitly advertised as family friendly, like Thumb Cramps, I don't think you should worry too much about where the guests take it as long as it's not racist, sexist, homophobic, ect. I thoroughly enjoy WKIWMS whether the episode is a deadly serious game of bluffs, a lighthearted bit of fun, or a bunch of tedious riffs where nobody takes the game seriously.
" then you get 5 minutes of talking about s******* out of your mouth". You should have said... what 5 minutes wasn't enough?
I think if it means enough for you to even ask the question, you’ve probably already got your answer 🤷♂️
I’m listening for this content (the tangential banter, not just popping out your mouth). If I want mainstream content aimed at corporate advertisers, I’ll switch on the telly. Keep it up
here's some feedback - that dude needs to mellow out. I think the show is locking down advertisers just fine. and if people don't enjoy explicit content, nobody's forcing them to listen. so stop yucking everyone else's yum. it's poor form, mate.
To be fair, faecal vomiting is a real thing in extreme cases of bowel blockage. It might have been a tangent, but it's a legit phenomenon. This guy is talking out his arse (there's a joke in that somewhere)
That’s a terrible take. I don’t think old mate has listened to many comedy podcasts. You should ask Tom Gleisner to review the episode and get back to him.
It is weird for the person to name drop Tom Gleisner as if he is the ultimate authority on comedy. The podcast has an international audience and I have never heard of the guy.
Some of the funniest moments come out of the insane banter. And it's not like WKIWMS is any raunchier than its sister podcasts (which are all fairly tame, in the entire spectrum of comedy). If you want to steer the podcast in a family friendly direction to reach a broader audience, that's obviously your call. You could try to release some cleaned versions to see what kind of numbers they do. (Which would open the door for WKIWMS: After Dark)
Love the format and the banter! It’s a big part of what makes the pod so fun ✌️
Nah man. The unhinged stuff is what it's all about.
I think this is just the nature of comedy- some ppl will like it, some won't and some are indifferent. Do I think that kind of humor is funny? No. But I can skip it if I don't like it that much. Would i prefer it not be there? Sure. But not every second if everything is geared to my particular tastes. It's your show, do what you want with it.
Better to let the guests riff and see what happens. I guess if you are aiming for family friendly content then editing stuff like that out would be a good idea but I reckon the pod is great as is!
Don’t change a thing. DGO, WKIWMS, BC, FTB the lot. Keep making the content that feels right for you guys and the listeners will stick around or they won’t. Don’t listen to the haters!
It’s a great show, I love it just the way it is. As others have said, there’s a skip button if necessary, plus he’s only talking about one tiny moment out of a huge amount of hilarious quality content. I think you cannot please all the people all the time, and that’s totally ok. I think it would be a shame to restrict guests in what they can say.
Hey Matt! I think the show is nearly perfect, it brings the best out of the guests on the regular. I actually miss the extra question! I don't think podcast is for this person... Maybe they want a "silly scale" which rates how many bananas of insanity it is... If you see the downloads tank, maybe a change is required but I think this person is going through something and took it out on you.
I suppose we are the people who would find it funny - considering we’re the ones giving you money in the hopes that you keep making it! I can see where they’re coming from, I suppose, but the guests telling their kind of comedy is what makes the show fun, different and thoroughly entertaining week on week, and it would be a shame to restrict them in any way.
I suppose it all depends on what you want from the podcast. I love it the way it is. Unleashed funny people are the funniest of people. But it's true you'll never get your show on TV in most places the way it is because of censorship protecting the youth from naughty words and shocking poo talk. I hope for my sake you don't change a thing, but will keep listening even if you clean things up.
It's a great show and any restrictions on contestants feels like it would make it feel weird. Perhaps putting a trigger warning in might help people be aware of and skip things if needed?
Please don't change a thing about that, Matt. Tangents like this are what makes Who Knew It (and Dogoon) special, if I wanted to watch lame people have family friendly fun, I'd watch Jeopardy.
I love the pod so much. The unhinged bits at the end are one of my favourites. I mean I listed to one where the fact was that birds shit on themselves, so like it’s hard not to talk about poo in that instance right?! This person is clearly a bit of a prude. I have recommended to many people when they’ve seen me cracking up lol
Matt!!! These kind of “almost too far” conversations are what we love about the whole Do Go On Network. As far as I can tell it’s never been a family show, so keep the filthy riffs going!!!
One piece of positive, constructive feedback, (unrelated) I think if you have 3 guests, you should have only 1 house incorrect answer to round it to five. I personally think six options is too many. Thanks Matt for the hours of entertainment!
Never change. If this person doesn’t think they can recommend it, they don’t have to. I recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Never change is right. When I click on a Ben Russell episode I know to expect a 9/11 joke and to hear creampies explained to me. Individual comedians have different boundaries on what they find funny! Personally I can't handle any teeth/ dentist talk but does that stop me from listening? No, the skip forward button is there for a reason. I love WKI and everything you guys put out, the risk of having a show with guests is changing a perfect formula. Oh well, it's still one of the best pods on the internet - it's Matt Stewart for fucks sake 😁
Left a longer and more thought out comment on the FB but I’m here to make sure you get every boost you can. I have no problem recommending the pod - You’re doing a great job.
I love the pod and recommend it a lot, that was one part of the show where you and the guests went on a tangent, he didn’t seem to be annoyed at the cum or whalebone down the urethra content 😂 Don’t change a thing Matt! This guy obviously works for the fun police 👮🏻♂️
I love it all, just how it is. Always look forward to the crazier bits at the end. I’d understand if you had to do a ‘clean edit’ but I’d be a little disappointed to be deprived of the madness.
the show is amazing as is, no need to change a thing! if anything more of those riffs and less family vibes is the way to go :)
I love how much support Matt’s WKI is getting from all these comments. I don’t have anything new to add. The pod is great the way it is.
Matt - I *loved* that whole shitting out the mouth bit, and I was listening while I was eating my lunch. I love all the shit that comes out of your guests' mouths (pun fully intended). I think the best compromise is what you're already doing by putting most of it at the end. But dude, I *love* the show and wouldn't change a thing!
I love this pod, it has me cracking up constantly. Please don't ever change it. You never know where it's going to go and I love that. Keep doing what you're doing.
Maybe you could do some experiments putting out a ‘clean edit’ from old episodes, and see how folks like this respond to that. I love the bullshit riffs, but makes sense that industry and/or family types are sensitive about it though.
To be clear, I fucking love it as is - don’t change! You have the meat to see if the dogs truly want the sausage
Not every ep or tangent is going to be for everyone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I also have a low tolerance for gross out comedy but that's what the skip ahead button is for. Their comment is mostly positive so clearly they're a fan - I'd guess they either recommended it to someone who was really put off by that particular tangent or the commenter listened to that ep when they weren't able to skip ahead? Or turn it off? Idk. I also listen to TITTT every week so you know there are times I'm skipping nearly whole episodes. Worth it for the non gross stuff :) and I'd never dream of insisting Andy and Al clean up their act. It's THEIR act! In conclusion, your pod, your rules.
I bet this person is REALLY fun at parties lol.
There was a whole tangent about cum which was amusing but a lot. However, I am an adult that can fast forward if I want. But won't because it's hilarious
I love the random tangents and riffs, but yeah, maybe stuff like this could go in the outtakes at the end
Unless it’s something you want to change, don’t change a thing. I like the pod because you and your friends are funny. Adult life is often weird, frustrating, and sad so I love the opportunities I get to laugh - that includes listening to every episode of do go on, prime mates, book cheat, and who knew it. Keep on being true to you…it’s kept me around as a listener since 2017.
Sounds like this guy has all of the answers. This show is always delightful and I enjoy the revolving roster of guests (and any quirky jokes they bring along with them!) I tune in every week because I love to learn and I love to laugh and I am really not concerned with the boring opinion of some stick in the mud. You can never please everyone all the time, but the fact of the matter is when you have fun, we have fun!
I love it Matthew
I did get to the shitting out of the mouth but immediately after eating dinner and it was an experience. Great ep
Love the tangents and the bonus content at the end! For my personal taste, if it gets extremely gross or graphic, I’d rather it be in the outtakes at the end - but I can think of only once or twice in 100 episodes that I’ve noticed that kind of thing. All that said, keep doing what you’re doing!
I might have to stop listening if this crass type of humor sullies my questions about whale bone in the urethra and swollen goat testicles and hopefully someday about the famous farter or the magical powers due to flashing your genitals. :P
Who knew it is fantastic as it is. I love hearing the tangents and how funny you and all the guests can make a simple question. The riffs make the show unique and funny. Don’t change things.
I can see the sense in suggesting not to use a clip like that in promotional material, but I think most people know how to skip ahead if they're not enjoying a particular tangent while listening to a full episode!
I adore this show and get excited when it drops. Literally helps me get out of bed on a Monday. It's the same with Do Go On - the dogshit riffs are the point! It's entirely up to you to determine who your target market is and what you want it to be, not one listener. This comment seems to have hit you, so if it's because YOU agree with it, you can make changes if you want to. If it's because it just hurts, fuck it.
Honestly Matt this podcast is one of my all time favorites and in think it has quite the mass appeal on its premise alone, and yeah the comedy styling won't be for everyone but almost all of the banter is incredibly funny. In fact the comment makes me want to recommend it more.
I love this podcast so much. It means so much to me and now my mom - who doesn’t listen but loves Do Go On & WKI because of the amount of laughs it’s brought back to her home. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and some stink… because they don’t have shit coming out of their mouths (lol) I recommend this podcast to judges, attorneys, doctors, and HR administrators. I’ve commented in the past I’ve made men I match with download episodes - so we have something to talk about, yeah, but also it’s one of my favorite filters! If they don’t like the show, we probably won’t get along - so why waste our time? I love the show. Change it if you want to, don’t change it if you don’t want to. There will always be people who have something to say - as long as you stay true to you you’ll likely at least have one listener (who loves submitting questions 💚). Also, this is the last podcast my brother listened to and he was the most amazing human in the world. So, also, I’d literally fight for this podcast. Just give me time for my liver to recoup 😂
I love it when the show is so silly and loose. You can find uptight quizzes wherever but the show brings variety of comedy and humor. If someone is bothered they can skip over for a couple minutes.
You can never please 100% of people. I do this crazy thing where if I’m not enjoying a particular riff, I just skip it and don’t annoy anyone else about it.
Don’t change a thing!! I love how different each ep is depending on who the guests are and how competitive they get. The extra bits at the end are my favorite part!
I hate the tangents. Just stick to the shitting in the mouth bits - THAT’S WHAT WE WANT… NOT THAT QUIZ NONSENSE
Love all the dogshit riffs. All due respect, this person doesn't speak for me. Some things might go a bit far but for the most all is fine!
Matt, please don't change anything about this show. I start to get antsy on Sunday afternoons waiting for the episodes to drop here in western Canada. It is truly one of the things I most look forward to every week, because I get to laugh, learn some random crap (pun not intended, but I'm not taking it out), and feel like I'm sitting in a room hanging out with some of the funniest people on the planet. I repeat, please don't change.
I wouldn't worry about it. For every 1 person that complains there are hundreds that don't. I didn't find it crass or disgusting. It was funny!
I’m just now realizing all of my favorite podcasts have a mouth shitting/butthole licking tangent. So clearly I’m just horrifically unclassy.
Are you a friend of DeSoto?
Whale bone up the dick was worse
Don't listen to comments like that. If people want to clutch their pearls, they can go listen to unfunny podcasts. Keep being you!
I prefer when you guys are just loosey goose and dont hold back! Keep doing you x
Comedy is subjective. People need to lighten up, it’s supposed to be absolutely loose and unhinged.
Don’t let some shit bird drag you down. The show is fine.
That particular episode was a bit cringey, but comedy is like that sometimes for some (and not for others). They do say potty talk is the lowest form of comedy, and I'd have to agree, but ill still listen
Agreeing with what everyone is already saying. Don't change a thing. It's so easy for someone to skip forward but if it's edited out then the rest of us miss out on the lols
Show is perfect. 100% don't listen to this pearl-clutcher. This show IS wholesome in the ways it counts, kind funny people being silly and making each other laugh.
I only listen for the mouth shitting talk, you can edit out all the quiz part.
That writer SUCKS!!! Looking for "classy" entertainment from a comedy podcast. I hope shit comes out of their mouth!
I guess they are right, but does it matter to you? I can't listen to this podcast with my kids, but are my kids your target audience?. I can't recommend it to some of my more religious friends but do you care if some of my more religious friends are listening to your podcast? I also can't really recommend it to people that don't like trivia, do you want people that don't like trivia listening to the podcast? I can't recommend it to people that eat while they listen to a podcast either, but that seems like a smaller demographic
Please don't change! We love you just the way you are
Don't change a thing, Matt. It's your show and it's perfect. If someone doesn't like it they can get a dog up em.
And then shit it out their mouth.
Love the show. Don't change based off one person!!! Your humor and the places it goes is why I listen. Honestly the off the rails portions get me laughing harder than anything!
This person must have a very difficult life being so easily offended. I vote for getting Ben Russel back on the pod to push the limits of how offensive one pod could be! (and show him that bit of feedback comment in the hopes it's like a red rag to a bull..)
Don’t go changin’, to try to please me. I love you just the way you are. Mmmm mmm mmm mmm mmm… But also, life is about choices. And they can choose to listen, not listen, skip forward… you do well to not inhibit your guests and to give them space to riff and be silly. I’ve never found anything excessive or offensive (though I have a wide berth for crudity). Keep doing yo thang.
I know that positive comments especially from us, who you already know enjoy you and the pod, don't mean much but still it's genuinely a really fun and entertaining pod. The occasional person who is not able for a slightly more blue riff shouldn't ruin the pod for everyone else. Especially as you already bleep out the bigger swear words for American audiences. You're great, don't let your people pleaser tendencies tell you otherwise king!! 💖
I vote for more mouth shitting talk.
Keep your chin up Matty! Unless you’re shitting out your mouth…
Matthew, the show is an absolute gem of entertainment. Don’t change a thing. No one else is asking the REALLY important questions. “If a gentleman did shit, could he do so out of their mouths?”
All you need to read there is “If it was my podcast”. It isn’t, it’s yours. Guests have enough to think about without needing to sweat over self moderating. You could include a content warning in the show notes on an episode by episode basis if you thought it would help but the show is working great as is.
Matt, I clean houses for a living. I was literally spraying and wiping the pee and poo off a toilet and floor when this "shit out the mouth" comment was said. I had to hold back the laughter and tears(because that meant breathing in the pee & poo particles). The human body is amazing and disgusting and no one should shame someone for speaking a fact. The show is "Who knew it?", right? I didn't know that could happen, now I do. The fact that this person chose this particular time to be offended after the many, many off the walls topics you guys have gone into is troubling. This show is my favorite out of the dozens of pods I listen to, but it's because you guys don't censor yourselves like the others do. You're hilarious and witty and I just love it! Please continue to be yourselves. Adults can choose what they want to listen to. You don't need to cater to EVERYONE because it may offend them. I can say that yes, some things are said that may cross "my lines", but I can certainly be an adult and skip forward(I have NEVER skipped forward btw). Don't cave to this nonsense.
Yeah, that tangent didn't seem any worse than a lot of others. I love it. You're not going to please everyone.
This feedback is dumb and tedious. Are there occasionally jokes and riffs some people don’t jive with? Sure. But like… that’s life. Occasionally we don’t like 3 minutes of a 90 minute segment. The podcast is great and both you and the guests should be empowered to be yourselves.
Tell him to get stuffed. Riffing, tangets and crook discussions are the beauty of podcasts. If I wanted inoffensive middle of the road chatter I'd go to commercial radio. The whole idea of podcasts is that it's NOT that type of groomed, over produced and controlled grey media they shoved down our throats for years. That's why it's a popular medium. It's fun and interesting!
The show is great, Matt. Don’t sweat it
Each to their own, but I definitely wasn't offended - it worked in context. I don't think you (or Connor) should do anything differently - you both do a great job. And I learned that it is possible to poo from your mouth, which was interesting (though not something I want to experience)
Tell them to suck a fuck i reckon
PS while you're here will you point me to the question submission form? I thought of one while listening to the latest episode.
Does it involve mouth-shitting? That’d be convenient.
Aww Matt, you poor bugger. For me, the tangents are an integral part of the show, I love the excitement of no-one, including guests and host, knowing exactly where a tangent is going to land, or the route it takes. Have you considered including a rating of some sort in the show intro? Something like "guys, this week's ep is a yellow-snow ep and contains some references to bodily fluids" or similar... At least anyone who was sensitive would have a warning (?) I personally don't want you to change the format, but you gotta do what's viable to keep the show going. I'll be listening either way.
Short answer: I love the podcast and let the guests do there thing. Long answer: Tangents never make sense out of context and shitting out your mouth was funny when in context. Matt, you have a great podcast, back yourself! You have been podcasting long enough & been successful enough to know your sh*t. The real questions are: Is this feedback a one off or part of a trend? Are rating improving, stable or decreasing? Do you love doing the podcast the way you are doing it? Hope that helps!
I haven't caught up to the reference yet but damn. The show is great as-is. You can't please everyone. Matt I think you're instincts are good. The show is made with authentically good intentions and is a highlight of my week. Keep up the good work.
I think their pearl-clutching is unnecessary. It was one bit. If the humor in one episode gets a little too raunchy for him, skip to the next one. The riffs/tangents add to the fun of the show. I think expecting you to censor yourself and your guests is unreasonable and would take away from the fun and spontaneity of the show.
I looked it up in Very Real and Not Made Up Statistics Weekly and 50% of your audience only listens for the off color tangents. Does Mr. Black Line Over His Name really expect you to alienate 50% of your audience?
There are a couple of guests who love to get creepy and or gross so I just switch off when they are on. The majority of your guests are absolutely delightful and know exactly how far to push while being very funny.
I also think Who Knew It has maybe carved itself into a niche show intended mostly for comedians rather than for a more mainstream audience. That isn’t good or bad. Hopefully that is what you want and you feel in control of the direction of the show. I don’t feel like I could recommend the show to just anyone but I could recommend some specific episodes that were really fun.
It's perfect. Don't change a thing.
There's plenty of middle of the road, family friendly entertainment out there - you absolutely do not have to contain yourself to their ranks. It's a silly show! And poop is silly. Don't let the bastards grind you down.
It's a sibling to do go on and way weirder riffs happen over there. Also you can't police what people write in their answers otherwise it takes out the spontenaity and randomness which is one of the best bits. You're not trying to get it on mainstream media. It's a comedy podcast. Do go on!
I think that if you make your guests sensor themselves it would take out a lot of the humor from the show. I think it's perfect the way it is!
Matt, I genuinely I think you’re doing a great job. I know you put a lot of work into this show, and I know you want to grow it, and with that obviously comes detractors. There will be people that dislike any change you make, or they will dislike that you don’t make a change. This is a comedy podcast, that’s also informative, literally my two favorite things! I say keep up the good work, let your guests be themselves, and don’t worry about what others say as long as you’re having a good time.
This person is shitting out of their mouth. But seriously don’t change a thing! We’re adults and people are able to turn things off or skip if they don’t like it.
As I’m sure you know, you will find biased opinions in Patreon because we love the dog shit riffs, hell, we pay for them. I say, leave it, I loved it, and also knew about the shitting out your mouth thing from an unfortunate google myself so it was fun to watch you live learning about it as well.
Agreed, asking for an opinion on Patreon where the true fans turn up is like going to a Metallica concert and James Hetfield asking the crowd “I dunno, are you guys *sure* you wanna hear Enter Sandman?” :p
Let your guests be themselves, comedy is subjective, you're putting on a great show - maybe just don't lead with that clip to sponsors 😅
He obviously doesn’t get the show
Honestly this didn't seem any worse than other riffs. Don't worry about it, mate
Absolutely disagree. I love how the show can fly completely off the rails, it’s part of the charm. I love how you let the guests really go ham and be themselves, feels like hanging out with goofy friends. I say let the dogshit flow
I think I was playing an ep for my brother and the guest started talking about a man living in their ass and my brother was like ????. People have different types of humour and as long as all the episodes don't go off into absurd scatological humour I am good
I mean this kind of game is just inherently funnier if it’s not family friendly. I think it’s more about what you want out of it though, and whether you think this could actually be a real negative when trying to market the show. I feel like the debate was really funny, and the dichotomy of the ridiculous idea being seriously questioned was funny! Especially considering that yes, it actually IS possible lol
Keep trusting your gut. Seriously. Keep making the stuff that feels right for you. That way you just keep building on authenticity and the right people will follow. Personally I think everything you've ever made is very entertaining and unquestionably valuable.
I think on the whole, the show is great. There is a point that I've seen happen to other podcasts where the show can devolve and become this level of stuff every week, and if it takes away from the fun of the show, it can become unlistenable. However, personally I find if anything, a quick 'content warning' at the top of the show is usually fine for people who listen with kids in the car or something. It also helps new listeners get a heads up, particularly if you've had it recommended to you and it's not the sort of thing that happens on a weekly basis. I have made the mistake of recommending a podcast (not DGO affiliated) to someone years ago and then the next episode that came was pretty foul even by my standards and I don't know if the person ever listened to it, but I do know they didn't speak to me again for a while.
Corporate sponsorship is already sanitising the world against its will. Don’t let it happen to small and middle scale media as well just because of a few dissenting voices!
I would give my life to let you and your guests go on dog shit riffs .
I think you have two options and maybe both are valid - you can be vaguely family friendly or you can let contestants do what they want. But I think the nature of "contestants write their own answers" is going to lean less "clean" unless you're willing to limit your guest list (I think I tend to lean towards the idea that it's hard to ask your guests to censor themselves because then they aren't maybe at their funniest or best). I will say that the tangents are less my favorite part of WKI than in DGO, not because they aren't funny but because I want to know the answers and see who wins.
The show is great. Don't change anything. Everything doesn't have to be for everybody.
I agree that I probably wouldnt use it in marketing but otherwise think it was probably fine - the banter around it maybe coulda gone at the end instead but i dont think it really makes much difference 🤷♥️ - I like the show as is (if anything i want the 7 question episode back ahaha)
Isn't wacky fact finding the whole point? Just because it's fecal doesn't mean it isn't fascinating 🤷♀️
Don’t change a thing!
Well it’s funny you should ask! Because I was just in my kitchen telling my husband about how I now listen to do go on, who knew it, AND book cheat, and I never get tired of any of them because it’s not just that they’re so funny … which they are… they all also radiate the same approach to life…. Curious and lighthearted, perceptive and intelligent, yet also open to the delight of pure silliness. Yes, that makes for some ocasional dogshit riffs .. but there is a magical button that fast forwards 15 seconds just for that. That’s my take.
Agreed wholeheartedly!
I don’t know if pandering to sponsors should necessarily be the right way to make content. I love batshit talks so I’m all for it, again, they can just not listen if they don’t like it!
Personally, I have no issue with it. That's just part of the fun of the show, letting the guests go off on riffs. I suppose that bit was a bit toward the extreme end and, like the Ben Russell creampie seminar, could have gone in the post-credits.
As an adult I recommend my favorite eps of dogoon and primemates and who knew it and then let my other adult friends figure it out cause the thing is you don’t know people at all. So you shouldn’t sanitize their life. Let them figure it out and say “wow that one ep was raunchy!” Yep. But the other 300 were cool? Yep. We can choose to be adults when we recommend a podcast. A lot like you wouldn’t recommend the worst Star Wars film etc as a way to suck people in ;). Be an adult. Help your friends maybe get an hour of happy from podcasts vs 24 hours of sad every day! Don’t let the Bastards grind you down Matt!
I think that’s a fairly stupid criticism because it is a podcast about trivia questions with typically silly answers. I personally love the tangents, but if you want to keep it G rated, maybe include all the nasty bits at the end in a nice sealed section. Otherwise, I think it’s rather exaggerated to say the quality has gone down because of a tangent about shitting out of your mouth. I mean, have a sense of humor!
I'd love to see this pod (+pod network) grow and gain more exposure, but to appeal to a wider audience like that guy is referencing sometimes you have to compromise what makes you appeal to a more niche crowd. I guess it depends on who you want your audience to be, and how much you're prepared to edit yourself (and guests) based on your desired audience. Sometimes the toilet talk goes to far for me, but I'm willing to listen through it to get to the good stuff.
i mean, if not here, where?
Just being reminded of this had me cackling
I don’t have a podcast and haven’t done networking for my own business before, but damned if you do damned if you don’t. Make something that makes you laugh and through genuine enjoyment sponsors will hop on (If that what this persons worried about). Also most guest are good friends are they not? If Joe Rogan came on and said some shitting mouth joke then yeah you’d probably be ok with that, and then people know what to expect. Your show tho keep it up I love it
The Do Go On-affilated shows are like stock car racing: the possibility that a fiery wreck/"5 minutes of talking about shitting out of your mouth" could happen at any moment is a big part of the appeal.
It's maybe that I'm also not easily offended, and if it's a bit in context then it's funny, but take it out of context and it might not be. If you have funny people on their going to say funny things and it's not all about shitting, so not sure what the issue is? At least you got past the 9/11 stage?
What I love about Who Knew It is that you let your guests personality and brand of humor shine through without making them adhere to what you want. Yes, it makes it a bit free flowing and sometimes gross, but that's the beauty and charm of it. There was an episode about 3 or 4 weeks ago where the first question about a Croation insult turned into vomit stories and I was laughing my ass off (in a plane no less!). So all this to say is continue being yourself and do what works for your podcast. But yeah if you're looking to get certain sponsorships or the like, maybe shitting out of mouths isn't ideal. But in the long run it's your thing. Do what makes you happy!
This is hilarious. If you start worrying about the dire holes you and the guests go down youll be editing around ben russell a lot. Plus all my questions are about butt stuff so id be out of a job
I like the tangents, and I like the chemistry it shows between comedians, you aren’t going to create a podcast that caters to every single person, some people want a straight faced quiz show and I’m sure there are a million out there for them, but I am here for Who Knew it with Matt Stewart, and everything that comes with it Ps. Bring back the 7th question please
My favorite tangent of all time is the blow job one and that’s certainly not G rated, I wish I could remember what episode it was from
I thought it was funny! If it was wall-to-wall toilet humour I'd probably be put off, but I enjoy that the tone and content of the show varies from week to week depending on the guests. Sometimes it's enjoyably gross, sometimes it's more considered, most often it's deeply silly, but it all works.
I think they have a fair point in terms of how you want to market the show to someone who has never heard it before. That probably could’ve gone in the outtakes section. However, I like the riffs and tangents in general and enjoy the whole show, so it didn’t offend me and wouldn’t stop me from recommending it.
I think this person was being a little dramatic, it was funny in the moment and most guests don’t go down that route anyway so i think it’s fine
This is just another entitled person on the internet who thinks that all media should be made for them. There are people who don't like scatological humor. There are others who think it's the funniest shit. Most people fall in the middle.
Was that a pun?
You aren’t a fan of potty related humour Matt so if it doesn’t gross you out I trust the content! People can always use the skip forward button - some of the best comedy comes from people who aren’t restrained or overthinking what they’re allowed to talk about. And you can always edit around it. Also this particular feedback equates potty humour to low quality comedy. Again, i feel like we listen because we like your humour Matt, so if you aren’t grossed out/offended, we probs won’t be. ✨
I haven’t heard the part the comment is referring to but in general I definitely don’t wish for the show to be more family friendly.
I loved it. Especially since we learned that it actually is possible to shit out of your mouth. I’ve told 5 people that fact since the episode came out!
See, we are laughing AND learning!!
I laughed my ass off during that whole thing. It's certainly not going to win everyone over, but I thought it was hilarious.
I personally, love the show as it is. Don't change a thing, unless I'm in the minority.
Fuck this person.
☝️This.
