Progress Journal, May 2026
Greetings Mythicists! I hope your May is going well :) I just got back from a week long trip visiting my daughter at her law school graduation ceremony. I hadn't been on a plane in ten years, so it was an adventure in more ways than one!
Let's dive into the latest goings ons!
Mythic Magazine #66
The articles in the next issue are "The Planet Crafter" and "Adventure To Character Optimization". The Planet Crafter helps fill out a series of Crafter articles starting way back with issue #46's "Star System Creator". Then there was "The Society Crafter" in issue #49 and "The Galaxy Creator" in #55, and "The City Crafter" from #61. While Star System Creator touches on planet development, The Planet Crafter approaches it in more detail. Taken all together, these 5 systems are a complete sci-fi world building package going from galaxy to star systems to planets to societies on those planets and cities within those societies. I suppose we don't have to stop there. Maybe someday an "Alien Species Crafter"?
"Adventure To Character Optimization" is a mouthful of a title, but it accurately explains what it's all about: making adventures that are optimized to your Player Characters. This is sometimes an issue with solo roleplay, since your single PC won't have as varied of a toolkit for dealing with obstacles as a traditional party does. This article addresses that challenge, with techniques to organically guide your adventures so they challenge your PC in ways they are equipped to deal with.
Micro Characters
I'm editing the "One-Page Character Crafter" chapter of Micro Mythic at the moment. I've been able to simplify it a little further, which is a goal I'm shooting for as this book takes shape: I want the one-pagers to all be as simple, yet useful, as possible. Some of the modules are now deferring to other one-pagers when they have a sub-system that works better there. Trying to earn that "micro" name!
Comp POD 9
The POD bay doors have opened and released print versions of Mythic Magazine Compilation #9. It's available in various formats on DriveThruRPG and Amazon. Compilation #10 is behind, but that always seems to happen. I get caught up with the Comps, declare "I am (mostly) current and up to date!" Then I blink and months have gone by and the Compilations are behind again. Either I'm a subliminal time traveler, or I'm just bad at getting these Compilations moving along. I'm going with time traveler! Even so, I'm going to hold off on #10 until this current round of editing Micro Mythic is done. Sorry #10, your day will come soon.
That's about it for now! Happy adventuring, everyone :)

Just came across what you have to offer. I've been wanting to play some fantasy games but haven't been able to find a group to do it. So I started researching playing solo. Ordered some stuff from Four Against Dungeons but reading through it I didn't find it would do what I was looking for. A nice looking system but I want to use Gurps and 4AD is its own system. Did some more searching and found out about this system. Watched some Youtube videos and ordered the 2nd edition book. Once I have it I'll hop onto Drivethru and order the PDF for it and some of the back issues of the magazine. Way to many to do at once.
Yay, welcome Daniel :) If you'd like to swap ideas with other Mythic players we also have an active Discord channel and a Reddit that's a good Q&A source. You can find links to both at the top of the wordmillgames.com home page. I hope you enjoy the wonderful world of solo roleplaying :)
> I'm going with time traveler! Who cares about Occam's Razor? Mythic's Razor says: the coolest explanation is the better one! ^^
Words to live by :)
This issue looks like it's gonna be one of the best. Can't wait to see it!
