Greetings Mythicists! Happy end of May to you. I hope your summer is getting off to a good start, and your Player Characters aren't pestering you too much to build them fellow party members.
Speaking of ... this issue of Mythic Magazine tackles the issue of playing parties in solo as well as what to do when the adventure is over. Take a peek at what's inside :)
Simplify Playing Parties Solo: Build a party of PCs that isn't a chore to handle by yourself by combining them all together.
Down Time Adventures: Forget the quests! What does your PC do when the battles are done? Adventures that are down time all the time.
As always, I had a blast making this issue! The "Simplifying Playing Parties" was especially challenging as this topic has been addressed before, coming at it in a number of ways. This article presents another take on this issue.
Happy adventuring! :)

The Down Time Adventures is one of my favorite modules you have published. Some times I don't want to play every single moment (or I just have writer's block and don't know how to proceed). And I feel like there is a whole line of related potential articles related to time skips: 1) Flashbacks - Some event triggers in game where you think your character should have more backstory related to that trigger. Queue flashback-- tables? ideas? structured backstory? 2) Flash Forward - Time skip to a scene in a tavern. What happened a month ago? a week ago? a day ago? last night? 1 hour ago? 5 minutes ago? 3) Flash Forward to any other key moments - Boss of a dungeon, end of a long journey, solution to a puzzle, etc. Basically, a tool to use when you have a specific scene in your mind, but your character in the story is multiple scenes away. Instead of brute forcing it (or half-assing it), you skip the writer's block, and go straight to the scene that is so clear in your head. This is probably the #1 thing I need.
Those are great ideas, Jonathan :) Thank you. I'll add them to the content poll list!
I admire how much work you can handle: MRPG 2e, MicroMythic, your other collaborations, and the monthly magazine. It's impressive, and I really understand if it's too much. But I really enjoy the podcast and am curious to see how the story progresses. Is there any chance of a podcast episode this month? If not, that's fine! No one wants you to burn out, so take good care of yourself!
Thank you Gustel :) Yes! The podcast will return in June. As you guessed, I ran out of time in May to squeeze it in. It was just that kind of month. I'm looking forward to diving back in, however, and I'd like to bring in more Mythic RPG 2e rules that I haven't used in the show yet. We'll see what Vi is up to in a few weeks :)
I love the idea of the collective character, that's a cool hack to get quickly into a game playing a party. It's like erasing the problem about the details by zooming out enough to not see them anymore. ^^ (well, with quite a few specific tweaks 😅) Before discovering Mythic, I was always playing parties, considering myself "a GM without player" and considering all characters as NPCs, even the PCs (which was natural for me, coming from a forever GM background). I would still recommend people to try at least once a party with super detailed PCs - not even just their character sheets, but also their backstories and personalities. If you enjoy psychology, it's very fun. In each situation, the reaction of each character becomes obvious at the time, because of their history and personality, and the reaction from others to their reaction becomes obvious for the same reasons, it's really fun to play and watch unfold. I could spend months with my game being mostly discussions between my PCs, peppered with action and combats, I was joking I was playing a game of writing theater. ^^ A whole different beast than the soloroleplaying we're used to, of course, but quite an experience.
And that’s a wrap on the issues for Compilation #9! 🎉
Oh my goodness, you're right! I better get #8 out then!
