Mythic Magazine Podcast #7: Deadworld Dome Scene 3

We return to the zombie apocalypse of Deadworld Dome to cache hunter Vi having an eye-opening conversation with a forest community's leader, and the discovery of what the Festival For A New Era is about.

This episode incorporates rules from Mythic Magazine #44's "Running Solo Slice Of Life Adventures" in how an interaction between Vi and an NPC is carried out.

I should also note that at the end of the session I forgot to update the Chaos Factor! I decided that, while Vi learned some important things in this Scene, she really wasn't in control of anything. For this reason I am raising the Chaos Factor from 5 to 6.

I enjoyed making this podcast a lot, and I'm liking where this adventure is going! I've listened to some other actual play podcasts, almost all of which sound more professional than mine, which got me to thinking that perhaps I should do more editing and smoothing of the content. However, I think it's good in this case to leave that stuff in there. You hear me considering interpretations, wondering out loud, basically voicing my thoughts as I decide what to do next. While that may come across as a bit rough for a narrative, I hope it's useful to Players as you consider how you would have interpreted the same results.

That's it for now! Happy adventuring :)

This is getting good! It's amazing how well Mythic can build an intriguing story from scratch!

Thanks Roosevelt, I'm glad you like it! This is the thing I love most about solo roleplaying, being genuinely surprised by where the adventures go. It's seems strange when you think about it, that you can be surprised by a narrative when playing it alone, and yet here we are :)

Not all actual play podcasts are educational. I learn a lot from you discussing your decision making, plus your episodes are entertaining. In summary, great as they are! And thanks!!

Thank you so much :) I'm still feeling a little self-conscious about doing the podcast since it's new to me, so the reassurance helps :)

I've been listening to many actual play podcasts since discovering solo play, and I find yours truly refreshing. I appreciate your descriptive and theatrical approach, where you narrate events without getting bogged down in the simulation. It speed up play and it is a lesson I will take with me when I am lost to much in the details. It's also very informative to hear how you use the rules. One thing I've learned from your podcast is how enjoyable it is to build an NPC one roll at a time. This approach helps maintain immersion without losing the sense of mystery. I also appreciate how you incorporate supplements from Mythic Magazine. I wouldn’t change anything, and I definitely wouldn’t waste to much time on time-consuming editing. Looking forward to the next episode!"

Thank you so much Thomas :) And thanks for mentioning about building NPCs, that's a good point. I really dislike having to pause a solo session to do something like construct an NPC or a place or whatnot, so acquiring elements a roll at a time is not only fast but fun. Like you say, you retain the mystery, and yet the NPC is still fully functional and interacting in the adventure.

I'm really enjoying your actual play podcasts like they are. I imagine we all have our own takes and approaches to Mythic, but I like getting a chance to see your process and approaches to interpretation as the creator of Mythic. Thanks for continuing to share these episodes.

Thank you :) I enjoy the thinking out loud part of this. It reminds me of artists I like. While I appreciate their final artwork, I really love seeing their sketchbooks where work is in progress or unfinished. You see their thoughts at work, and there's something refreshingly natural about it. I hope my podcasts kind of come across in the same way, where it's not "messy", but natural. I record as I play and roll, and I don't redo any moments to get a more exciting or workable result. So when I interpret something, or have a moment of indecision, I want my honest, natural reaction to that to come across. The only editing I do is to remove pauses that are more than a few seconds, and try to cut out my verbal space fillers (I say "so", "and", and "right" a lot! lol).
