Listening to the episode now. Eric said Musk got stuck with buying twitter. When they covered this over on opening arguments podcast, the lawyer on that podcast said that if he refused the twitter deal even after signing it and went to court for damages on breach of contract, he would have lost a lot less than he's losing now. So either Elon had very bad legal advice, Opening Arguments is missing something (which they usually are not), or Elon really really wanted Twitter even if he knew was going to lose a ton of money.
