Bob Roberts came out when I was in my late teens. My friends and I really loved it, so I showed it to my older sister one night. She seemed be enjoying it well enough. It was only when the song "Complain, Complain, Complain" came on that I realized she was missing the irony in the whole thing. She took the song seriously and thought it was really funny and truthful. I couldn't believe it. Suffice to say, thirty years on, she is a wealthy woman living in the suburbs with a right-wing husband, four kids, a bunch of SUVs and a basement arsenal of assault weapons. I have no idea what she and her husband made of Trump. I rarely see or speak to her anymore.
Ouch.
