This Should’ve Always Been in The Sims 3: Real Reflective Windows!

After completing and delivering Haven Springs as planned, I wanted to show you an idea that came up during the project!

I created a small prototype that worked really well for screenshots, but I’m still running more tests to understand how I can refine it and push the visuals even further.

The idea here is simple: what if windows actually reflected?

With the Glass Shader I released a few years ago, we brought back that reflective look windows used to have before The Sims 3: World Adventures. But those reflections aren’t real. They’re fake. So the next logical step for me is to make them real. That’s what I’ve been working on, as shown in the video.

From one side, the glass reflects. From the other, it allows the player to clearly see everything outside. This isn’t a modification applied to all windows, but rather a separate object that can be added, giving players full control over which windows should be reflective or not.

I’d really love to hear what you think about this process.

Below are some comparison images.

Here we have windows using the Glass Shader. This is how they look from outside looking in...

And this is how they look from inside looking out.

And here we have reflective windows.

Since I built them using my modular set, this also allows for more realistic internal shading.

Hi! Your mods are really cool and have largely saved my dynasties from monotony. thank you so much! Sorry, but I have a question how does your game run so smoothly without any lag? Once again, you're amazing!

Oh Thank you so much Lina! You have no idea how much your comment means to me. You made my night. In this playlist, I’ve shared everything you need to know to optimize your game and set it up exactly like mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwwGyAbDGb0&list=PLC7OOeA425gGjdejLa4ZI5wNubgQMpyXI You can also check all the links referenced on my blog (they have been moved, as my server was shut down): https://boringbones.blogspot.com/2025/05/tutorial-de-otimizacao-sims-3-2025.html

They have a kind of "fake" reflection, which doesn't actually reflect the outside, but a solid image xD so the object will be separated, so it's up to the player when and how much to use. But, think of these windows as mirrors. How many mirrors could you put in your house without losing performance?
