INTRODUCING: SOCIAL CLASSES TO THE SIMS 3

Hey everyone! I’ll soon be releasing my new Social Classes Mod, but I decided to share this post early because it clearly explains the purpose and mechanics of the mod. Since the text is quite detailed, I wanted to make it available in advance so everyone can take their time to read, understand the changes, and get familiar with what’s coming.

Soon, I’ll create a post with a direct download link for supporters, linking the description back here. The mod will be publicly available in a few days. Every time a new mod is added to Patreon, another one is released on my blog — so stay tuned. Enjoy the read, and thank you for all the amazing suggestions that helped shape this project!

Earlier this year, I was feeling a bit “distant” from my Sims. After building a variety of autonomy mods, I realized that maybe I didn’t want to be “God” anymore—just a curious Mayor. I wanted to observe them more closely, understand their moral dilemmas, their challenges and opportunities—but from a more human, almost sociological perspective.

Then I thought: what if I gave new meaning to the game’s forgotten systems? What if their stories could unfold outside the players’ minds, with data, context, and consequences supported by the game itself?

That’s how Social Classes was born.

📋What the Mod Does

The idea is simple: we are shaped by our environment, and we shape it in return.
Using The Sims 3 University Life’s Social Groups system and the Fame system from The Sims 3 Late Night, I created a new axis of identity for Sims — the Social Classes.

  • Each Sim now belongs to (or can rise within) a Class that influences their habits, fate, relationships, and preferences.

  • They visit places that align with their status, make different choices, and build social circles and subcultures based on emergent behavior.

  • The Fame Journal from The Sims 3: Late Night has now been reimagined as a Prestige Journal. It no longer measures fame, but rather your Sim’s prestige throughout the city — once they become part of the old fame system, whether through their actions, career, or any factor that places them within it.

This isn’t a rigid or artificial system: Sims can step outside their bubble, change classes, or even break patterns altogether. After all, I’ve met rich people who were incredibly poor — and poor people who were incredibly rich. In the end, what you do defines who you are.

💼 How It Works

You can join a Social Class in two ways:

  • Through a personality trait: Choose a class trait (Lower, Middle, or Upper). It conflicts with others, so the Sim will behave according to the defined Class.
(You can change the trait at any time.)

  • Through skill development and actions: Your daily interactions reinforce the class you belong to.

An Upper-Class Sim tends to prefer bathtubs and gym equipment, while a Lower-Class Sim might go for a shower or use a radio to work out.

Over time, habits build identity. And identity builds the world.

🧩 What you will find in this mod:

  • Social Classes with distinct behaviors

  • Lots with class-based access and visitation rules - A Dive Bar will attract Lower-Class Sims and repel Upper-Class Sims, and so on (GetOut updated for backward compatibility)

  • Rebalanced interactions and relationships between Classes (284 new files included)

  • Adjusted motives frequency to create greater consistency - Each personality trait has a hidden motive that influences the actions Sims choose to take. For this reason, the needs of each social group have been adjusted to create more emergent and observable behavior.(Classic-Sims-Revival updated for backward compatibility / and required for this)

  • Compatibility with 8+ existing mods released by me before this one, all updated for integration

  • New autonomy logic based on status and interests

  • Sims from different Classes have different Wishes

  • Language strings translated into Brazilian Portuguese and English
(Players using other languages will likely see names referencing social groups instead of Classes, anyone interested in translating it into their language is welcome; I can provide the texts used)

📦What the Mod Includes

  • Traits-CAS-Social-Classes:
This file will conflict with any other mod that edits the parameter: Traits.xml.
This mod allows the player to choose a Social Class (Social Group) through the personality panel in Create a Sim.

  • UI-Social-Classes:
This file reimagines the interface and icons for the Social Groups and Fame systems in The Sims 3. It will conflict with any UI mod that edits these same interface elements (there are probably very few mods that do this—make sure to check with Sims3Dashboard for any conflicts). This mod also edits the images that appear when you hover your mouse over each Sims motives. And yes, you can merge this mod with your favorite UI mod with no issues at all.

  • Itun-Misc-Interactions:
This file includes the rebalancing of a large variety of itun files that had not been edited by me before. It may conflict with any other mod that edits the same parameters.

  • Itun-Social-Groups:
Focuses exclusively on files that already influenced Social Groups.
I rebalanced all of them to have less influence and attraction over Sims, aligning them better with other in-game actions and preventing artificial behavior. Now, your Sims won’t instantly gain points for their actions — instead, those points will accumulate along with other actions performed by the player, making the mechanic/process feel more natural.

  • Class Wishes:
This file edits the entire Wish tree and separates wishes according to Classes. Wishes were recalibrated based on social dynamics and behavioral tendencies of each class, so they align with the rebalanced actions mentioned earlier.

  • STBL:
This file contains all the text strings that were edited to transform the old Social Groups system into Social Classes. It changes trait names, wish descriptions, social group progression descriptions, and several other elements. Since the Social Classes Mod is part of what I envisioned as Project Mayor, the needs have been renamed to give players the feeling that they’re managing more than just a Sim’s life — they’re shaping an entire community. The new terminology expands on what each need represents in the everyday social life of Sims. For example, Fun becomes Leisure, Social becomes Connections, Hygiene becomes Self-Care, and so on. It is translated only into Portuguese and English. For other languages, the original text will remain unchanged.

  • Misery Painting:

Add this painting to any low-density lot to reflect an uncomfortable or unsanitary environment. This artwork lowers Sims’ moods, making it even more challenging for them to overcome their condition in response to the state of their surroundings. It replaces the Environment score marker of the Painting Mission (the smallest painting in the base game, featuring a lighthouse), providing the “Filthy Environment” buff. This creates a constant sense of discomfort in Sims. It was chosen so players can easily hide it behind furniture if they wish.

  • Prison a Week: Now, Sims who are caught in the act of committing a crime will be jailed not for 6 hours (as originally) but for a week (10080 Sim Minutes)

  • Additional Included Files:
(Remember: some of these mods have other add-ons. Only the edited files are included here. If you don’t already have my other mods, I recommend installing them first, then replacing them with the new versions included here - The files presented with this Download are not only recommended but indispensable for the concept of Social Classes to be realized)

    • Get Out – Edited for backward compatibility (the Venues file now assigns attraction for specific classes to visit certain lots)

    • Classic-Sims-Revival – Edited for backward compatibility (adjusted decay and expression of influence-group needs for more consistent, observable behavior throughout the day)

    • Renaissance – Edited for backward compatibility (some interactions have been tuned with Social Class impulse)

    • BB-FixAutonomy Mod – Edited for backward compatibility (some interactions have been tuned with Social Class impulse)

    • Life-On-The-Streets – Edited for backward compatibility (some interactions have been tuned with Social Class impulse)

    • Autonomous-Bills: Lower-Class Sims are now prevented from autonomously donating to charity

    • Hygiene-Module: Upper-Class Sims will prefer bathtubs, while Lower-Class Sims will prefer cheap showers (building on the dynamic that Sims tend to favor what’s familiar to them)

    • SmartSim: Added painting preference for Upper-Class Sims

    • Social-Consequences: Gossip interaction expanded for Lower-Class Sims

⚙️ Requirements and Compatibility

For everything to work perfectly, it’s essential not to use mods that disable the Social Groups system or modify its itun/xml files. All my compatible and updated mods will be included in the same pack to make installation easier. Simply replace your old versions with the ones in this file (The file name remains the same).

🧠 Why You Should Download

Social Classes isn’t just a behavior mod. It’s a way to bring social coherence and identity to the world of The Sims 3 — something that’s always been there, just waiting for a bit more logic, context, and purpose.

Now, when you look at your Sims, you won’t just see traits and careers. You’ll see lives shaped by choices, status, and belonging. And you’ll realize that each of their actions can directly impact their future. Where they choose to go, who they choose to talk to, the objects they choose to use—everything is shaping and reinforcing who they can become.

Additional notes: Some dilemmas that were causing minor annoyances for players in my previous mods — such as the excessive use of the imaginary guitar or pop-ups with Sims saying they didn’t feel like visiting you (even though you weren’t the one who called) — have also been fixed.

Please, if you have any questions or if any information in this post isn’t clear, let me know. I’ll be happy to help.
