Development Update 63

My last dev update was like soooooooooo many posts ago...

I mean, there was the New Year post, the Special Renders – December post, Episode 8.5 went into beta, Episode 8 went public, and then somewhere before Christmas I wrote my last actual development update.

Would it surprise you if I told you that I’m working on the last scene for Episode 9?

No, I’m not writing it. I’m working on the renders, stupid.

I get it, it’s an honest mistake. Episode 8.5 is only out in beta access. How could I possibly be this far into development for Episode 9? Well… turns out there are many hours in the day if you don’t have to do other things, like finishing a degree. I mean, who would have thought :D

Actually, there are a number of reasons why development has sped up. For example, I can rely on stuff I made previously. Scenes, outfits, poses… A Foreign World has been in development for a long ass time, and it would be a shame if I didn’t find ways to make my life easier.

And if you don’t do stuff like let the story take place at a waterpark, then things can be really simple.

These last few weeks my hobby (playing volleyball) was on winter break. So there’s that.

All that to say: I finished Episode 8.5, I finished writing Episode 9, and I almost finished creating the art for Episode 9. There is one more big scene that needs some special attention, but after that Episode 9 will be (almost) done. Yeah, there’s still music, coding, bug fixing, etc.

Also, I’d like to build up a bit of a buffer now that we’re getting closer to the end. I assume I’ll pay special attention to the very last update, checking the story, the translations, fixing whatever needs fixing… and I really don’t want you guys to have to wait an eternity for the final release.

On top of that, I’m still thinking about combining Episode 10 and Episode 11 into one big update, because I want to end the game with a worthy bang.

So, Episode 9 is almost ready, but it will still be a couple more weeks before it goes into beta access. After that there will be Episode 9.5, and then maybe there will only be one more very big update :D

Hope you guys are as excited about this as I am. Did you know that the story of A Foreign World takes place in late summer / early autumn? Look at the image that comes with this post. If I look out my window right now, I see lots of snow, so I’m not really in the mood for ice cream. But if it were late summer…
