Development Update 45

My computer is currently creating the render that comes with this post. I'm feeling a bit cozy and yeah... that image goes pretty well with that feeling of mine. I like the quiet and mundane atmosphere. Also the people up to date with the story might look at this image in a different light.

I've been sick these last couple of days. Something is going around Germany and it's not very fun. It doesn't affect me much since I don't have any important deadlines coming up. I'm just missing some energy but things are still progressing.

Case in point, the image coming with this post.

I know some people must have gotten excited seeing this because when I stop recycling images from previous updates for Dev updates, this usually means I'm done writing the next one. And yes. Episode 6 is fully written. It's around 8,300 words long but it's still missing one or two transitions. This number will increase slightly, but not by a lot.

The next update has a couple of great scenes and unique ideas. They should breath some fresh air into the story and add some much needed scene variety.

I'm a bit afraid that the action in the story is getting the short end of the stick. Then again I never planned for A Foreign World to be a fast pace action sequence. I actually never planned for it to be action packed at all. But I also wouldn't say that the game is a slice of life adventure. It somewhat is, but I'm not competing with stories like "my 1000 year old wife" who did the whole introduction to modern life a hell of a lot better than I ever could.

And then I start thinking. A Foreign World does a lot of things but I'm not so sure what the driving thing behind the game is. Well, I should have thought of that at the beginning and than stuck to it :D

It is what it is.

But even though I have my doubts I still believe A Foreign World is a really great story. And I mean that. Could there be more action? Yes. Could there be more sex scenes? Yes. Could there be more times we get to play with Megan in her fox form?

I think you get what I mean. Yes there could be. But the story isn't boring or anything. I enjoy writing every new update and it's rare for me to dread going on. I'm discovering new things about my characters through writing. For example something that I haven't thought about too deeply but that makes quite a bit of sense is how I wrote Lucy (The blind girl). I thought she is quiet reserved and keeps her opinions to herself. Basically believable survival strategies for a blind girl when living at the old man's castle. But she is no longer at the old man's castle. When you play the next update you'll see what I mean. I reread some of the upcoming scenes with her and I wasn't sure if I should write them this way. But yeah, I think that is Lucy.

And the thing that was actually surprising is that her past scenes already read as if that was my idea behind Lucy all along. But not conciously. I just wrote the character in a way that was believable and I am still trying to write the character in a way that is believable. I think that's the reason why it fits in better than I thought it should considering that I haven't thought through her entire personality somewhere at the beginning of A Foreign World.

Also on a different note. The developer of Origin Story reached out to me and said he like my game. I heard about his game a couple of times mostly from people commenting on the aspect of copying people's ability. His game looks fun and yeah... There are also supernatural abilities and a main character that can get them. His art is amazing. I know with promotional art you can just choose the few images that came out the best but from what I have seen he is a really talented guy with a sense of art and who puts attention to details. Maybe check him out. If you're here, then there is a good chance you'll like his game also.

Anyway, today I was somewhat in a writing mood. Maybe that's because I'm feeling cozy, idk. Let's check, did I hit all the important points? Well, I should mention that i'm only 14 renders in so there is still a fair bit to go before the next update will be released. Still, I hiope you're enjoying the render that comes with this post.
