Friday Update - January 1, 2021

We did it! We made it through 2020! Now everything is fixed, right? COVID is cured, the world is at peace... oh... oh, crap, we're still here. Well, regardless -- I'm determined to make 2021 a better year than 2020 was, and I'm dragging you all screaming into the happiness right along with me! 😡

So last week I told you all that I'd give you a better idea of how far along Mythos is and how much needs to be done. As of today, I believe that Mythos Book One, Chapter One (I really need better titles for these) is at about 50% complete.

This week has been the hardest I've worked on Mythos thus far, and it's also the one where I've made the least progress. How is that possible? Simply because last week I released an alpha build of the first 1/3 of Chapter One to a small group of testers. We've since been going back and forth on fixing and improving every facet of the game. Some design improvements, some much more efficient ways of coding things, and a whole lot of struggling with the Lorebook.

That being said, this has also been the most informative week I've had in regards to designing the game. I've learned a lot more about how Ren'Py functions, and having input from others on what does and doesn't work in the game is a great help. Things have been put in place that should make finishing the rest of the game far breezier. The only remaining hurdle I have is doing animations.

My partnerships with other devs have likewise been invaluable! If there's any advice I can give to aspiring developers out there, it's to make friends with other developers. It only makes everyone's games stronger as a result.

On a non-Mythos note, I hope everyone had a good New Year's Eve, and I wish everybody to have a great 2021!

Until next time, keep the legends alive for another year!
