Introducing the Librarian Skirt

I'm playing pattern catch-up! This is officially the release for October last year, before I put my page on pause. Two further patterns - one for November and one to bring us up to date for current month - will be released in the next couple of weeks.

The Librarian Skirt is a midi-length skirt cut in a slender A-line with two crisp inverted box pleats in front and centre back zipper fastening.

This pattern was loosely inspired by Evelyn’s iconic librarian chic outfit in “The Mummy”, but updated for a more midcentury fit, with a slightly shorter length and less voluminous silhouette.

The Librarian Skirt is a a versatile staple which can be styled in a variety of ways: Choose crisp linens for a breezy 30s-40s silhouette; embrace classic wools and plaids for a 50s academia vibe; or go bold with a suiting fabric for that sharp 1980s power dressing edge.

I made mine in a nautral-toned stretch linen, and cherry red bengaline (I was going for nautical chic with this one, but it kind of came out low-key Mickey Mouse Disneybound!)

Glorious skirt and just got round to cutting out and transferring my marks on to my airforce blue suiting fabric and sadly, the "stitch to small circle" mark for where we sew to for the front pleat is missing. I've double checked it wasn't my printing.

Ack, so sorry! The small circle should be approx. 38cm/15" down from the waistline seam.

In cream with a white shirt and black tie. I can finally live out my Mummy dreams: Look, I... I may not be an explorer, or an adventurer, or a treasure-seeker, or a gunfighter, Mr. O'Connell, but I am proud of what I am. I... am a librarian.

Oh I love this skirt! 💖 Very work appropriate too, depending on the fabric you choose. With a matching jacket would make a fab skirt suit… 🤔🤩
