Introducing the Parkway Coat
Introducing the Parkway Coat, a 1940s princess seamed, single-breasted overcoat with arge, rounded lapels and in-panel pockets.
It's here! This pattern was originally intended for release in October, but life stuff and grading difficulties got in the way. However, I'm thrilled to introduce the Parkway Coat, a 1940s princess seamed, single-breasted overcoat. The large, rounded lapels are based on an original 1940s coat from my collection.
The tailored, two-piece sleeve features a darted shoulder for that square-shouldered 1940s silhouette - you can add shoulder pads for extra structure and drama (I decided I didn't need them in my version).
I’m especially pleased with the deep pockets at side front, which are large enough for all of modern life’s day-to-day essentials, but don’t distort the lines of the coat thanks to the in-panel construction.
The pattern is based on, and follows the lines of, the Fatale Dress, with the additional ease required for outerwear.

For the fabric requirements. On the 115 cm width the fabric requirements is more than the lining, but on the 150 cm width, the fabric requirements are less than the lining. Has the fabric and lining amount swapped places on the 150 cm width?
And on the collar. It says to put wrong sides together and press. But on step 11 it says to sew together, and the turn right side out. But if it is wrong sides together from step, it is right side out 🤔
Omg, I love it so much. My dream coat. I have the perfecy fabric in my stash and soon 17 days of work. Time to sew
Amazing - that’s awesome that you already have the perfect fabric! Have fun making your new coat ❤️
It’s so beautiful!!!
Aww thanks - so glad you like it!
Absolutely lovely! I’ve been dying for a coat like this ❤️❤️❤️thank you!
Hurrah - happy to fill a gap in your pattern stash! ☺️
Amazing!
Ohhhh this is fantastic! Do you think with some heavy interfacing for some structure/body I could get away with a lighter weight fabric? Subtropical Aussie in the middle of an extra humid summer
Definitely - you’ll probably want to use shoulder pads for definition in the silhouette, but other than that it should work fine! You may also find you want to size down (the ease allowed assumes thicker fabric, plus layers underneath)
Your coat looks gorgeous. Thank you very much for this fantastic pattern. I've had the perfect fabric for a coat lying around for so long, but never had the right pattern. I know what I will start tomorrow. ❤️
Oh wonderful! Have fun ❤️
Oh my goodness. I was planning on duplicating my existing coat but dreading altering a pattern, and here this is, solving that problem. Lovely!
Yay, I'm so happy it came along at the right time - have fun with it!
