Sunrot - Anyone else tried this one?

I recently purchased Sunrot

https://www.sunrot.com/

And I'm glad I did.

This is ONE WEIRD game. I can see it being a big hit with a certain kind of person.

It's the simplest game I've ever played. There are basically 2 governing rules. Roll a D6 for any action, if you succeed draw and flip a card.

That's pretty much it. All of the "rules" are provided on two poker-sized playing cards.

It's a hybrid narrative skirmish, adventure board game and RPG.

It comes with a ton of great cardboard - cards, terrain, standees, tokens - everything you will need, and all for about $100 USD.

It's so simple though, and sometimes it's a little confusing. And therein lies the rub. What about line of sight? What's the range on range attacks? How do I hide? What does it mean when I get cursed? Does that wall provide cover? Well, roll a die, pick a target number, and if you get it draw a card to see what happens. Or just make up the details on the spot.

Personally, I love it.

But I can see others having issues with it, especially if they don't know what it is going into it.

I'll be posting a detailed episode soon, so hopefully I can provide you all with some solid information.

It is really, really interesting though.

I just ordered it after a bit of research. Interested in fast 1 shot and solo ventures on YouTube seems to have some solo rules for it. How does it fit on your small table I am a little worried about the size as I could not find the dimensions of the game board itself listed anywhere

Fits very easily. You really don't need much of anything else for solo play. Just a small simple oracle for some things, if you want. All die rolls are player facing, and the results of most things are based on the draw of a card, so very easy to play solo.

Available via North Star for those in the UK

Ha ha… just saw an unboxing a few days ago and thought this could be up your alley… great you discovered it by yourself. Seems like it’s also a great source of Standees and Cards for other RPG systems.

Even if you don't play the game, it's a great box of stuff for Mork Borg / Forbidden Psalms!

I'm extremely tempted by it. Not yet available in the EU but soon hopefully. Question is if it's smoothly playable solo and coop. Games with a dedicated GM are always a total disaster with my group. And for me personal, is there character progression? 😁

There's really no character progression outside of narrative and items. It probably plays best with a GM, but I found it perfectly playable solo because it's so simple and so many of the outcomes of the actions are totally randomized with card draws.

I've been eyeing this game up for months. My issue is my group wouldn't be into this and I'm not sure how much I'll get out of it solo. But I want to real bad.

I found it pretty interesting as a solo game, and out of the box it's basically 90% there. I just added an oracle for some of the GM stuff.

I have the cards and some of the minis , but really really like that board and was tempted. Was going to buy it, but the last copy was taken out of my LGS as I walked in lol
