Introducing Clip Search
Playphrase.me has never been just a language-learning tool.
A lot of people come here to study English through real movie scenes. But there has always been another important group too: people using Playphrase.me to find clips for videos, memes, lessons, edits, and other creative work.
That use case matters to me just as much, so I built a new interface for it: Clip Search.
It's cleaner, faster, and more visual. Instead of a layout built around learning, Clip Search is built around browsing clips quickly, scanning lots of results at once, and finding the right moment with less friction.
On desktop, you can preview clips directly from the grid, which makes it much easier to tell whether a result fits what you have in mind. If you want a closer look, you can open a larger viewer and move through results from there.
This mode isn't only for creators. It should also be useful for teachers, editors, and anyone who mainly uses Playphrase.me to find material quickly without the extra learning-focused interface.
I also added an optional setting for people who prefer using Playphrase.me this way. If you want Clip Search as your default experience, you can enable it in Settings, and Playphrase.me will open in that mode by default.

how do I extend the length of the clip it cuts off to early on a few clips im trying to download
I’m having an issue where I need to log in again almost every time I refresh or reopen the website. Otherwise, the premium clips/features disappear. I’m using a chrome browser by iPhone. Is this normal behavior, or is there a better way to stay logged in?
Dear bro, I couldn't find the copy and paste button to copy the phrase to make movie clips. The copy button is missing. Could you please fix it？
The copy button is available in the internal player. Just click on this mini-player, and you'll access the large player where the copy buttons are located. I removed the copy buttons from the mini-player because they disappear when you hover the mouse cursor over them, so there's nothing to copy anyway. I was asked to remove all unnecessary elements from the mini-player when hovering to maximize the information about what's playing in the video. If you need more, click on the mini-player to access the interface where you can copy.
Hi I’ve subscribed to your app and I’m confused where do I now search for videos to use for my lessons? It was super straightforward before, now I had to download Patreon app, and all i see is your profile. I search for play phrase but it only shows me your profile. Sorry I just need to use it urgently today, and it a bit annoying that I’ve paid for subscription and can’t use it. Thanks
You probably need to visit the website playphrase.me and then be sure to log in through Patreon.
I'm sure you've had this suggestion, but is it possible to make a new category for movies? Like you pick a movie and all the quotes from that come up? Been loving playphraseme, huge help and asset to what I do
Yeah, I’ve thought about this. The problem is that showing too many quotes from a single movie gets into a pretty tricky copyright area, so I have to be careful with it. I’m working on a completely new search engine right now though - much faster and with way more filtering/sorting options. So things like genre/director filters and maybe some kind of limited movie search could appear later on. Probably when I release the next big database update.
