If Jean was smart he would have convinced them he was selling out his friends because he's a coward then brought the kidnappers deep off trail the wrong direction into the snow storm. Based on the available information I would have to assume they were gonna torture the information out of me if I resist then kill me the second they recapture their victims and my friend because of me. Go pretend to get lost on the longest trail you can find to the most remote blind. A young fit nature photographer who presumably has a ton of wilderness experience is gonna succumb to hypothermia a lot slower than a 40 year old thug carrying a big metal gun in the freezing cold. Just hike until their hands are too stiff to move, take the gun, kneecap them both and hike back. Even if they manage to kill me anyway, I've at least bought the girls time and possibly eliminated the threat if they freeze to death in the storm. Istead this coward just handed over the radio rather than warning the girls that instant and calling the gunmen's bluff.
Some people are just too honest, eh? ;) You're gonna love what comes next though...
