Tales From the Tower - Scripts (All Seasons)
The first podcast we started listening to together was the No_Sleep horror podcast. It's been a pretty big part of our lives and between that and the copious amounts of horror films we watch on a regular basis, the prospect of writing our own horror stories seemed really exciting!
This was a fun script to write because of how many challenges were presented in writing horror within the Liberty setting. After reading the first draft it gave us a lot of faith that Atrius could indeed be a setting for ghost stories (and more episodes of our secondary show)! The first version of this script featured little robots constructed from bones, which became a different story.
Notes:
We still get messages from people who say that 'Infection' deeply unsettles them in the best way possible.
Excuse Me: Similarly to the story itself, the script for Excuse Me materialized in our dropbox folder one day, without any warning or notice, just waiting to be discovered. Kaitlin had written the entire story in total secrecy with the intent to write a novella-length introduction to Liberty that anyone could enjoy, specifically people who have never heard of our podcast/world. With a larger cast than Critical Research, recorded in roughly a single month, it was a massive undertaking.
Deep In Sleep: Mid way through a season seemingly themed with sleeping disorders and impaired perceptions of reality (Nightmares, Insomnia, Escape, Side Effects), Kaitlin got the idea for Deep in Sleep. Neither of us had any idea just how many sleep disorders there were until doing the research for this one (well, Kaitlin did), and due to the length of this episode it took us literally until the last week to finish it, despite having an extra few weeks to work on it!
Similarly to 'Excuse Me' the piano track was actually the compilation of 4 different unused piano tracks by Brandon Strader for a song he was working on that he let me repurpose. We don't normally include music within our stories, but so much time passes during some of the narrative segments (hours, days, etc) that the story felt a bit bare without it. Having 4 variations of the song allowed us to make some sections sound more calm and triumphant where others sounded more tense or depressed.
Happiness: Have you ever discovered one day that one project you have to work on looks a bit... large? With just two weeks to produce this story and a larger cast than anything previously attempted Happiness is the single episode with the largest cast, musician count, original song count, and length that we've ever produced in under a month.
