Swordsmithing (Prototype)
The Mechanics of Swordsmithing
Sword Components
To assemble your own custom sword you will need four components.
Pommel
Grip
Hilt
Blade
Finding/Crafting Components
To start off you have two options
Crafting components - Gather materials and create them yourself!
Finding components - Maybe you find artifacts that have been destroyed and need to be reforged, or made into something entirely new!
For option one you will need to first gather materials to craft the various components.
Pommels are typically metal but can also have other materials either for function adding damage of a different type, access to a spell, returning to your hand after being thrown, or form adding nothing more than flavorful description and maybe monetary value.
Grips are typically leather wraps but can be many other things. Functional grips dictate how you wield your sword, or even if this weapon was made to be thrown.
Gross-gaurds can add a spell or the Gaurd trait and are made of metal more often than not.
Blades made of metal add many qualitys and really impact the way the weapon should be used, maybe you have a small hidden blade (concealed) or a magnificent piece of craftsmanship that lowers the critical hit threshold. Is your blade Heavy, how far does it reach, or does it have additional damage types?
Assembly
After you have all the components needed to create a sword you just need to pass a final blacksmithing check (you may also need a knowledge check if your sword has mystical properties such as spells or added damage types)… if you are too afraid or lack the skill required maybe its best to hire someone else to do it for you.
